Lovely stuff, Andrew. Very commendable right hand work... I've never been able to get my right hand to function so smoothly and so tastily. And what a toneful mandolin... Aidan
@@TheIrishMandolin thanks Aidan! I wish my left hand would keep up though! By the way, I love your playing, I heard you on the Blarney Pilgrims podcast, lovely playing and choice of tunes
@ Yeah, I use a wee bit different DGDAD on my long and mid scale citterns, and GCGDG (with similar intervals) on my short scaled one. But, each tuning has it`s sides and one can find numerous different options by mere googling.
@@andrewlyonsmandolin The long scale excels in chords and suppoeting the vocals, short scaled has clear and sharp tone for nordic folk especially. Medium is a jack of both trades, more or less. All of them I like and use. The long one is from Folkfreunde Hamburg and two others made by Nordic luthiers. Overall quality follows the price, but the first mentioned is a fine instrument too.

@@mhandle6025 thanks!
You compliment the whole scene with your sweater and the fine playing! I am a sailor as well.
Haha thanks! what boat do you have yourself?
I am currently looking for my next boat! I am going to look at a 32’ Westsail this week!
@@brianpouillon1353 That's a beautiful boat, long keel and I love the traditional look, good luck I hope it works out!
Nicely played!
Thanks Benjamin!
Thank you for sharing beautiful thing kulov ❤
🥰
Looks like a short scale cittern. Mandolin usually has 8 strings? Nice tune and playing.
Thanks! Yes it is a bit like a vey short cittern, same tuning too DGDAE

@@Ah01 That's very cool and interesting too, I'd love to get a cittern one day. The longer scale seems to give a very lush sound for chords

Nicely done, what kind of boat are you on?
Thanks! It's an Achilles 9m sailboat from the early 80's
