Man I can't wait for season 4 but in the meantime enjoy my thoughts on Overlord as it stands with 3 seasons out! I really enjoyed making this video so hope you enjoy it.
Hell yeah, great insight and glad someone understands overlord for what it is. It has so many layers upon layers of world building and stuff happening behind the scenes even not shown in the anime nor LN. SUBBED
I mean, I though the genocide of an entire species just for the development arc of your ice warrior subordinate was, what I thought to be the most evil action ainz did so far, but most people got shocked at the workers arc, like how can you not feel anything when an entire race is being slaughtered for no apparent reason rather than a bunch of thieves being killed.
The raid into the tomb was a lure to the Empire and it gave him a justification to start shit up with the Empire. Demiurge is laying out the strategy and Bonedaddy is just going along with it. But the one to watch, is the psycho succubus that loves him. We should see more of her in season four.
yeah it's something you don't really ever see in stories like this but it provides for such a unique perspective/growth over the course of multiple seasons.
Demiurge is always fun to watch. The funniest thing is that he *IS* an evil devil, yet he's also a good drinking buddy to Cocytus; and a humble sheep farmer, of course. I also love the penguin character whose character trait is that he plots to overthrow Ainz by... cleaning the toilets... all characters know it's a treacherous thought, yet all know THAT is how he was created, and the will of their Creators is sacred.
Fun fact about eclair he doesn’t want to overthrow ainz he is loyal to him what he means by becoming ruler is after ainz is gone he should inherit nazarick due to how well he has cleaned it over the years. thats why the npcs can put up with it
I'm so glad someone finally understands the true story of the Overlord! I'm so tired of seeing people say Overlord isn't good because it focuses on side characters instead of Ainz but I think that's what makes this anime interesting and different from other isekai anime
"Accidental World Domination", Ainz not even realising this became the plan, from an offhand comment he made in the second episode, for so long, just to say,"Ok, let's roll with this." When the master schemers of Demiurge and Albedo think so highly that they can only gaze in awe at Ainz play 5D chess while they play checkers, then we hear Ainz's side and we find out he was winging it always gets a smile from me. This series was so good I actually went out and bought the light novels to compare, and while yes they skip a few bits, I call it streamlining.
what gets me is even after accepting he is now doing this he still gets one off comments pulled from thin air that pushes him deeper than he ever thought possible lmao his shocked bone face and his "WHAT" remarks always get me
I think part of the reason why first time viewers are surprised by Ainz’s evil/ruthless actions is because he is still better than the world around him. What I mean is that a lot of the other people we meet in Overlord are kind of shit. Like the corrupt nobles of the Kingdom, the Scheming Empire and Theocracy, the Eight Fingers, and some others are all shallow and self-serving. Ainz and his subordinates have more of a found-family dynamic than a caste system like what the world of Overlord uses. Ainz goes to great lengths to ensure everyone in Nazarick are treated with respect and dignity. He is also fair to outsiders that he believes had earned his respect, like Gazef. Ainz can be callous, but his tendency to be considerate of those that he believes deserves it is still far more endearing than those that feign or lack compassion for those that have sworn loyalty to them. Also the fact that more evil characters like Albedo and Demiurge helps remind us that Ainz is not truly evil as he is apathetic to those he doesn’t know.
He is from a modern world, sure, his Earth is fucked up compared to ours and society is completely bonkers, but it's definitely not a middle ages world.
My favorite parts of Overlord are the parts when he's not around. I like seeing the characters all do their own thing and have their own plot moving forward while wondering what Ainz is doing in the background. If you like reading, then I would recommend reading the light novels even if you've seen the anime. It's really indepth with all the world building and it's characters.
I think an interesting detail in the world-building was the MC old world was a dystopian hellscape. The world was so polluted that they needed to wear gas mask in order to go outside, bunch of dead orphans, worst working conditions. A small detail but it does seem to play into the type of character Aniz was.
Humans on his Earth aren't the same as us, the environment that you grow up in will affect your psyche, Suzuki Satoru (Ainz) could be viewed from our POV as some sort of light psychopath, add to that his undead condition and you get what you get.
@@xxvaltielxx1789 his mom died from over working because he wanted her to make his favorite food after a long day of work when he was little, so yea. when the novel mentioned that he has no friends or families in the real world, it means they are either all dead or he is too secluded to his comfort zone to get to know people
Always love to find a youtuber who actually sees what overlord is about. I just love how consistant this show is after setting the rules of the world. For me the most intresting part of overlord is his relation to the floor guardians and the other NPCs of nazarick. How he always have to keep up an act to be the ruler the NPCs think of him. He is just a normal worker who suddenly becomes an absolute overlord who has to create this new personality. Its such a unique story and an absolute blast to watch and read.
Nobody asked me but for me the best part is the internal conflict between ainz pleasing his children (the NPCs) and his humanity. Ainz clings to his humanity to the reminder of his friends and his adventures but as the story goes on it goes deeper and deeper into his overlord persona.
I think the point of the "sidearcs" like the lizard village is to show that the world does not inherently revolve around our main cast. Ainz is very proactive which triggers other people to take action which then in turn make Ainz react to that.
With the worker Arc while what he does is evil I will say that while Ainz was testing the defenses he never actually forced them to attempt to enter the tomb. Before he sent them in he asked, a Momon, why they were doing it and they said money. i do believe if they had said anything else, like they were being forced etc, he might have shown mercy. Then he placed all of that gold right there for them to take. So he gave those workers two chances to walk away and they didn't take it. We know why but for Ainz he had given them two chances to walk away and they didn't and so their own greed had brought them to their doom. Which is why he didn't show them any mercy later. They had invaded his home not because they were forced to, even if he did push them along, and after already getting a chance to walk away with money.
100% agree about Sebas. He genuinely seems like a good guy and the arc where he saved Tuareninya (had to look up how to spell her name sheesh) was one of my favorites. Also him giving the kid confidence with his punch an the kid's unwavering will because he wants to protect the woman he loves. Also him kicking ass versus the Six Fingers was so awesome. Still, I'm partial to Albedo just because she's hilarious when she's away from Ainz.
@@Thejeanio officially it's Tuareninya Veyron. Japanese doesn't has letters. it has sylabes. and several methods to write those using roman letters. Tsuarenīnya beiron could be a valid romanization too. Tsuareninya is also valid. just not the official way to write it using romanji. (roman letters) I'm not going to give a longer explanation, and I'm far from an expert so I may have made a mistake or two, but that's what causes the confusion. you can write it in several, correct, ways.
Glad you watched it. The brutality of Overlord is on a different level. It's not just about the ways they kill, but the indifference, that's the secret to its scary execution. I'm binging Trigun now, what a show! It has Cowboy Bebop's scent all over it, but it's also very different. If creativity and integrity die today (like in Hollywood), I wouldn't be worried because there are so many great sagas I need to catch up to! 👍
well said. the real frightening content isn't someone dying but someone leading an army of what you'd view as evil beings and being so neutral on all that's happening.
Bro believe me The Web Novels are even more Brutal and i not talking about the LN im mean the Real Web novel the first version Of Overlord alone Shalltear in the Web novel is so much more twisted .The Anime never showed it but Shalltear is an Extreme Sadistic Sexual Predator alone what She did to Arche in web novel is disturbing to say at least in the Web Novel after Arche was takien Prisoner Shalltear Tortures and Sexually Abuses Arche until She Break now Cosindered a Dog by Shalltear She is Brainwashed by the Abuse and Turned into Sex slave by shalltear with the longing that shalltear Takes her Virginity
@@AHBrandonReviewsngl therr was a moment i was like, "the past few books were super wholesome, lemme start the next volume while eating breakfast" and then the first few scenes absolutely turned my stomach, *IT WAS AMAZING*
a very important point that's kinda obvious on the novel but on the anime it wasn't as clear, but still right in the face of the viewer, is when the workers are preparing to invade Nazarick, Ainz, as Momon, asks them why are they taking this job that's pretty much will get them killed? and they said, money, so in his eyes they're taking it by greed, of course, the main team of workers were diferent, but still envolves money, if they had tell him they needed the money to help Arche's siblings, the outcome would be diferent, but even still, at the invasion, Ainz ordered to put a lot of treasures at the surface mousoleums for the workers, enough gold to make them be satisfied and leave, but they still pushed on the job, and the main worker team leader even tried to lie to Ainz using his friends name, so Ainz villian moment is kinda the consequences of the workers actions, he offered 2 chances, the question, and the gold, and they still invaded...
Demi: "Lord Ainz master plan has four benefits!" Ainz: "*Four?!? I struggled to think of one* ahem , good job Demiurge but in fact my plan has six benefits" Demi: "NANI??!"
@@autumneagle no. Ainz saw only three (or so he claims) fact is, as always, he has no f*cking clue of what the hell is happening. Ainz is a master at adlib.
I'm currently rewatching it and I'm on s2. I've been pleasantly surprised, I forgot how well crafted the world and characters were. When I first watched the lizard man arc i remember not liking it, but it was a good arc and showed the perspective of the lizard men really well. This show has phenomenal world building, and season 4 looks like it will have even more of that so I'm hyped.
yeah while I know I would have enjoyed that arc weekly(originally I binged like season 1 and 8ish episodes before stopping cause no more was out) I do get why early on some people might be shocked at the shift in POV at the time of it airing. Though I did see the same people complaining on Crunchyroll in season 3 when it happened and those people clearly just wanted Ains action so they didn't understand what they were watching at all. The multiple perspectives is what makes this show so complex
I like that the author pretty much accepts Ainz as being overpower, as every isekai protagonist, but they dont make false challenges. Every fight between level 100 characters is a one sided massacre, the real challenge is in the world domination itself and in the admnistration of state. He has to keep cash flowing, spand, get information, surpress rebellion, dealing with different powerfull personalities while staying on a relative good light.
Every scene between Ainz and Demiurge is comedy gold, the constant back and forth between "this was your plan all along, right?" and "ah yes, yes it was. please explain it to the rest" always gets me. Honestly, its a shame Demiurge didn't get more sceentime (hopefully that'll change when the Holy Kingdom arc gets adapted)
yeah season 2 is where overlord went from a great watch to one of isekai's best. Seeing the world open up and having multiple perspectives outside of Ains makes his later action all the more complex as we don't have main character tunnel vision but have seen things from so many other perspectives
I remember crying damn rivers while reading the backstory of Rororo in the novel, was disapointed they didnt include it in the anime, but I understand direction decisions.
i forgot to mention this but it wasn't in the anime but it was mentioned in the light novel when Sabas got asked what he wanted at the start of season 3 he asked if he could go shopping for tsuare but in the light novel its Ainz who suggests that he should take tsuare out on a date since they were dating just thought it was a cute moment
I love the accidental world domineering aspect of it. but also the fact that though twisted he's incredibly moral in the sense that he still has a sense of honor in him. but he's not afraid to bring down that hammer of the reality he's found himself in. like the fight in season one versus clementine. and again when the bug maid was almost killed he fought back the impulse to take out his feelings on evil eye without the effects of the emotion control spell. but most noticeably when he gets the diary of the adventurer that got killed by clementine and it gave him an insight into the nature of the world. and he pays back the perceived debt in that by extending his protection to the girl that Sebas saves. who was that adventurer's older sister? the strange fated meetings in the series are also a joy to see. like Shaltear and Brain, and Brain being connected to Gazef and Climb meeting Sebas. every encounter feels like it leads to something more and it made me cautious of every interaction and character introduction wanting to see how it would come to play later. especially where demiurge was concerned and even the way he introduced himself to the leader of evil eyes guild? and the way he set it up to give that one emperor the impression that there were holes in the ship known as nazirk
I see Overlord as a slow fall from grace kind of tale. In the beginning he is at his most human. The constraints and abilities of his lich body, (including obsessive qualities and paranoia that often plague such undead in D&D) along with his extreme fear-based roleplay progressively wear him down into the monster everyone sees him as. It's a tragic tale where his despair at his loneliness and perceived abandonment by the friends he loved the most drives him to ruin as he struggles to bring back the past before he really became truly undead, at any cost.
@@murimurimrui Actually no, I appreciated the development. I also expect it to get worse down the line with some anticipation. The human who is now Ainz was always flawed, plagued by loneliness and a deep sense of betrayal by his friends that he won't admit to himself. However I believe when he messed with albedo's status he passed those emotions of loneliness and betrayal on to her. Much like the other guardians are reflections of their creators, Ainz infected her with those strong emotions he couldn't admit to. This laid the seeds for what I believe will be his eventual and final downfall. The thing he pursues and wants most, will be actively destroyed by Albedo who can, and does act upon that sense of betrayal to her dearest love... I'm cheering for things to get as dark as they can get.
I hate it when ppl confuse SAO's premise with Overlord's . You know how in Isekai anime your main character is teleported or reincarnates to a diffrent world that's overload with a bit of twist being the main character is not only teleported to a diffrent world but he's teleport as his Game Avatar + an entire dungeon full op monsters that worships him . Where in SAO The characters are trapped in the game or atleast their conscience hence why they cant taste or feel anything because its vertual.
Pretty sure it would be everyone chilling inthe tomb while trying to stop Ulbert from total world domination for the first half. Only real goal of ainz is to spread the name ainz ooal gown so that if any other players, or more importantly members of his guild comes to this world they know that he, another player is in this world. Npc's probably would want world domiation anyway but with touch-me and his extreme sense of justice, outright war would be nigh impossible
I think people complain about CG for the most part because of the end of season 3. That scene with baby goats in the books become a horror novel and in the anime dont see any blood just a bunch of toy dolls in the ground.
overlord is not only a good isekai but a very good fantasy novel. In animations a lot are toned down but still has the vibe of it. what i love about overlord is that how every character in it stand on its own with their own motive and narrative even if they don't contribute to main story or not. The best example is in light novel, we are told about the back ground, motive and personality of each of six fingers even though their main contribution in story is to be one-shotted by sebas in less than 10 seconds. Also in light novel, Gazef was so badass that elite troops from slane theocracy had to resort to ambush him without his magic armor and sword. He held on his own against a platoon of special forces and only took damage once the fatigue set in. Of course, ainz stepped in and one shot the special force. The way the story is told is consistent, logical and MC is a real human unlike the hollow husk of meat in most generic isekai.
It has always been about the world and the characters, their trials and tribulations, how they grow up and face the adversities that their world throws at them..... Then Nazarick comes and wrecks the shit out of everyone to please their God and to stomp any ideas that this was a shounen, there's actually a line from Ainz to another character in Volume 14 that addresses this very thing, the New World (Overlord) is not a wish fulfillment fantasy, it's a real world, people suffer, good people die and evil people live on, but this spooky skeleton wants to build a better world, so you better stand with him or get crushed by the overwhelming power of progress.
The novel volume you're waiting for is confirmed to be the movie and no word yet if it becomes season 5 similar to how demon slayer movie was released as episodes of another season. Unless you're talking bout witch of the fallen kingdom and not the holy kingdom arc
my mind is blown people didnt like the Lizard arc. That was my favorite part. I would put Overlord in the top 3 of Isekai animes I have seen along with Mushoku Tensei and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I am not sure I could even pick a winner out of those 3. I would give an honorable mention to So What, I'm A Spider too.
@@riardomilos8014 I agree with everything except that I started reading Mushoku novel and it simply didn't hit as Overlord did. Seriously, Overlord LN has some of the darkest quotes ever!
Don't get me wrong, I'd probably put Overlord in my top 5 favorite anime, but I wasn't a huge fan of the Lizardman arc. I think in comparison to the rest of the show, the arc is rather slow, and during the arc I couldn't help but want to see more of the Floor Guardians instead. But maybe I'm just weird, since I got bored with "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" after eight-ish episodes.
Something I like about the anime is that it doesn't hand hold you all the time. There will be a random scene like Albedo sitting on the bed with Ainz flag in the corner and Momongas hung up or like a small interaction or flash or off the cuff statement and if you pay attention you can get deeper understanding of the world
Oh I love Overlord (and book 14 released today !) I am mostly speaking as a light novel reader here but the only light novel series that I think is better than Overlord is Bookworm. I don't think that this is a strange as it might appear since bookworm and overlord key strengths are their beautifully rich, deep and expansive cast of characters coupled with intricate and comprehensive world-building. The focus of the world building in each series is very different but they are each rich, complex and compelling. A seemingly minor (but actually major) point about Overlord is not in the way that it features an evil group but that it finds a way to present an evil group that isn't overcome with narcissism, sadism and hubris; who are devotedly loyal and sincerely care for each other. How can the hero's and powers of the New World counter such a threat when the 'evil will eat itself' law of nature suddenly doesn't apply? It's also a difficult series to talk about with anime viewers as a source reader. Because when you already know the show is overflowing with background and character details - but those are details that anime viewers tend to miss and often think of as spoilers (which they sometimes are as just having those details pointed out turns subtle foreshadowing into blatant exposition) There is also an incredible amount of theory-crafting around the series and there are channels that have done almost nothing other than make 10-20 minute lore videos about one aspect or another of the books for years lol This is less of a standout feature today but when the lightnovel book began in the west the Overlord novels really stood out for having excellent prose. There are a lot of other series out now that also have good writing but the quality of Overlord as a novel compared to the other big hits of the time was rather extreme. As I final note - I want to, again, praise your for restoring my faith in humanity by understanding some of the nuances of the show (that I thought were obvious) but which so many commentators seem to just not understand at all. I guess that a lot of people do watch whilst doing other tasks, a shocking number even watch seasonals at 1.25 speed lol
im convinced shows like Overlord have at least 20% of viewers watching on 2x speed based on some of the complaints making me question if they even know what kind of an anime this actual is lol
From what I can tell the vast majority of viewers do not have their brains on when they watch anime. It's almost like people expect and even want their shows to be like the poor quality trash series out there, so complain when Overlord doesn't treat Ainz the way a poorer quality series would. Though the worst I've seen was when I saw comments for "So I'm a Spider, So What?", those will make the comments you see on any Overlord episode look like big brained intellectuals.
Yeah, Overlord's absolutely wild. I believe a large portion of the show/LN is based on the creator's DnD games, which explains where a lot of that good worldbuilding and wide array of characters comes from.
The world building is amazing and I hear the novels are even better. So apparently in the novels, Albedo has 2 other sisters interestingly. Ainz is definitely mostly rational that he will perform evil actions if it will help his cause and group. Apparently different characters have a rating in regards to how evil they are in the series. There’s a lot that’s going to go down this season especially the end of the season and when the movie releases which I’m excited for. I have always been curious what would happen if albedo was reprogrammed to no longer love Momonga. Also didn’t realize you were still behind on the series until now. Lol I actually have a lewd Albedo body pillow cover. 1 of 4 anime covers I have. Also I’m curious who’s your favourite Pleiades maid?
Mine is Aureole Omega - youngest and only level 100 pleiades, technically she hasn't appeared yet but she is mentioned in the light novels here and there.
There are so many little details that make this anime amazing! It's in the small things. Like in season 4 when the death night got his foot stuck with green goo, instead of just pulling his foot out he pulled out the block of the ground which in most animes the ground and background etc are completely ignored for the easy grab. THIS ANIME IS AMAZING BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT THE LITTLE DETAILS and they are not just following the simple formula for chartecters etc. The charecters always suprise me with their depth and how they arent all just idiots to be filler.
a thing that the novel does is the npc are in part a reflection of its creators so ains time to time remember his in game friends , and the world building is really good
Well…that’s one more to binge list from this season,I’ve had my eyes on Overlord for a while but never took time to watch it. I don’t have many spoilers of it fortunately, other than the main premise and a lovely hug that Ainz gave to a girl idk anything about it. Currently I’m watching Made In Abyss and I’m way more invested in that world than I expected to be,tho ep 10 already got me traumatized,I need an adult…
it's a great watch especially when you have no real knowledge of what comes next. the fortunate thing about binging 3 seasons of a show like this it's really easy to remember all the small details/moments it wants you to
Definitely one of my favorites - I really love Overlord. I'm really enjoying your take on it, and this video series a lot too! There's only so much Overlord, but there's no end to the talking we can all do about it. :)
I have seen a lot of people misunderstand the reason Ainz brought adventurers to Nazarick, so I will leave this here. He did not bring them for a petty reason, he brought them because it was a very crucial part of his plan of taking over the world. Because they were from Baharuth (I think) he can openly retaliate on Baharuth (and later become "Allies") and make the world recognize Nazarick's strength without being the aggressor.
Yeah my self doing a binge of overlord series right now since last time saw a few years ago. Man its really good as I remember. All of the characters play import part of the story and are really well made and get more fleshed out as the story goes on. The overlord series is one of the most deep and rich lore series. You can spent hours talking or doing just one of the main character analysis and still have things to talk about. Missed bone daddy why not world domination if you could do it he plays chess like nobody's business but wonder if we will see others players eventually
This is such a good review because its your genuine beliefs. I don't want to hear the generic review that are just riding peoples well yuh know. You are actually a genuine reviewer keep up you being genuine and not taking notes from others!
Great vid! Just wanted to mention the bigger reason for letting the tomb get invaded is to allow the pretense that they were "attacked" and thus needs to get recompense for such trespass. If you're familiar with Stellaris it's like gaining a favor from the opposing empire which in this case is the Baharuth Empire which lead to Baharuth supporting the Sorcerer Kingdom's declaration of sovereignty. Happy to see more appreciation for Overlord :D
The thing with this show is that it does a good job of making characters matter and getting them involve. Its sorta like this massive lead up to the Overlord version of Endgame. A lot of these characters can get their own spin off show
Demiurge is one of my favorite characters if not my favorite because of the comedic planing. He's a complete monster but a great character. Love that overlord will in the end will basically be the background lore for a dnd campaign.
The world building in this one actually rivals One Piece. I overlooked the anime for quite a while until I gave it a rewatch after Isekai Quartet and watched the videos of Germany's biggest Overlord RUclipsr Lord Mirau.
True, despite one piece being a 90's anime with over two decades of content being poured inside its world, overlord - a much younger series is arguably more efficient? In its world building? Can't seem to find the right words 😅
This anime made me buy the original light novels. This universe is so deep and detailed, I love it! We get to see not only the cool stuff Ainz can do, but also how profoundly any of his choices of action impact the new world. I'm pretty sure there is a theory that his luck stats affect him in some way and that's why most of his decisions turn out to be positive for him in the end (ex: the horn of the goblin general, or Momon's versatile role as an adventurer, then as a police force in the conquered city).
I think what makes Overlord great is seeing Ainz from different perspectives, be it his, Albedo or Demiurge's, and specially from people outside like Jircniv and Enri.
Overlord is my personal fav isekai as a animating viewer vs manga or lightnovel. I have to say, first of all the protagonist is just a bad ass he's one of those characters, that is smart, and really powerful. Second of all yes it is good that they take away the camera from the protagonist, and focus on other random characters that lines up to the story, not a lot of isekai's do this like said. Really hyped for season 4 and the other shows in summer anime seasons, and I'm looking forward to you're overlord reviews.
Accidental World Domination is the best phrase ever! Ironically, this does show how someone so powerful can alter the fates of the entire world by just saying something and possibly being misunderstood.
I love that Ainz, as powerful as he is, knows he can't deal with his lieutenants so has to play along with their idealized version of him. Each of them was designed as a Raid Boss that requires a full party of max leveled perfectly minmaxed and coordinated players (in the style of WoW or more topical nowadays FF14). He's only one guy, which shows when he has that climactic battle at the end of season 1, he literally goes full Pay to Win plus what passes for AI exploiting in that series. I like that he has to be the best roleplayer, or else. (Which is helped by the emotion suppression thingie)
I am definitely looking forward to seeing how they tackle the holy kingdom arc, I heard that's going to be the movie that's coming out, that's one of the darker arcs, though I just finished reading volume 14 of the light novels and that one got really dark. But love this series and can't wait to see more.
When I first watched it I loved the anime but than I watched videos on YT about the lore/world of Overlord and than I loved it even more. My fav isekai.
I agree I love Ainz and the other gaurdians But I also love the great world building And seeing how what each character is doing I hate mysteries So knowing things from multiple perspectives really interestes and captures my attention
The best part of Overlord is the fact that it focuses on the side characters. You already know what Nazarick can do, they can literally mold the world in their image, akin to a human stomping on ants on the ground, what's stopping them or rather, what's slowing them down is Ainz being too careful that they might step on a bear trap and have his children lose their legs. The fun part is how the ants react to this humongous creature that will inevitably come their way. Will it spare them? Kill them just because? Pick them up and play with them? Just their struggle is fun. You either get a short story that either ends in tragedy or hope.
Bran if you finished binging Overlord I would recommend listening to the CD Dramas. The Gigant Basilisk fight is better narrated than in the anime, and they explained what Satoru (Ainz) real personna is thinking. You will love it.
Momonga/Ainz's best and worst trait is his lack of confidence. While it feels frustrating to see him doubt himself or the guardians (in that he's worried about being overthrown), it is only because he has those doubts that he agrees to take over the world and we get an actual plot. Some of the best comedy in the series comes from him trying to flip those "Ah, yes, you've seen through my plan," situations and freaking out over the new thing he just unwittingly agreed to.
The part at the end of Season 3 when the one human girl blows the horn and summons SO many goblins, explicitly because she had upped her reputation with the goblin faction, was so moving. The graphics suffered a bit, but they were animating so much it's probably to be expected.
I have insane expectations of the movie because while it'll be adapting the longest page-wise novels they are also the most descriptive ones. Meaning it can show like 20 pages in 30 second animation and how characters react to it. All Hail.
Ainz had Fuldar pay to have the Wokers invade the Tomb, so he could 1) gain leverage on the Emperor and 2) Test Nazrick's defenses.....but 1) was the biggest reason!
To put things into perspective Momonga, or Ainz as he is known now, was mainly an RP build. Nothing compared to some of the more min max build like Touch Me or the sword guy. Even then, he was known to be able to pull insane wins. He almost always lost the first round on a 1v1 but once he knew his enemies, they would always lose the next two rounds. Few could win a best of three, one of them being TouchMe. Ainz never got a win against him. Considering the armor he wears in the fight at the end of season 1 is the world champion's armor and that armor was TouchMe's I am not surprised. You also have another bit of info, Momonga was the guild leader of Ain Lol Gown. So he knows about managing personnel and other such miscellaneous tasks because he had to do it. Granted he is pretty much ignorant in anything else because he did not get higher education and basically worked at a coal factory I think?
I loved its s1 when it first came out back then it wasnt so popular bc other animes outshined him or at least clouded the anime. Even then I knew this was a great anime which deserved to shine.
Something that I think has been omitted from the anime is the number of times Ainz talk to himself in the novel: "I'm an undead with the memories of Suzuki Satoru, I'm not human anymore, I just happen to have the memories of a human office worker"
Those workers... Well it was not only to get experiments but to get meeting with Emperor and justification to create the country (yes Emperor saw through that in the end but not in time and saw through and call the bluff are two different things) since i love these political aspects i love most anime which makes it believable and Overlord is doing it quite well and not just believable. Cant wait for start of the 4th season and your reviews *wrote rewievs instead of reviews
yeah I'd argue given the style of anime it is which generally is more fantastical, overlord is among one of the best at making everything seem realistic given the circumstances presented
I have read the novels and from that perspective the anime looks like "Best Nazzarick moments compilation.". So it's a fine adaption, but they clearly don't believe in the profitability enough to do it completely. It's as bare bones as movie to book adaptions with lots of content cut just because you don't have time. In other words: If you liked the anime and wanna know more about everything. Read the books. The anime is fine, but it's just a very limited sneak peek into the full world of Overlord. But that's typically the intend of Light novell adaptions: Sell the books. I think saying something is bad or worse then XY if it fully works as intended is ignorant to dishonest.
I just wanted to point out that the reason the adventurers got invited into Nazarick was multi purpose. Ainz has some pretty cruel underlings and they had asked if they could have fresh victims Albedo had been asking for live test subjects for the nazaricks defences Demiurge had a plan to get the Emperor to show himself and make them their allies
Ainz could sneeze and everyone in Nazarick would praise his masterful strategy. On the otherhand, Jircniv would shit his pants, internally realizing that the sneeze was a warning to not betray him, and that Ainz is truly all-seeing to forsee his plots and plans, all undone by a simple sneeze. Meanwhile, in Ainz's mind: Man, the pollen's rough this time of year.
Someone gets it, good video! i really can't wait to see if they do or show things regarding the 8 greed kings and other players as well as why the time differences are there. (Avoiding manga unless necessary)
Bro I spent almost 3 grand on sisters wedding in the dominican in December and all I did the whole week was binge all 3 seasons of Overlord in my room, My ass didn't step 1 foot into the Atlantic the whole time I was there.
I think the reason why Ainz's actions keep going align with Demiurge's plan is because of his "character" stats as he's supposed to be "very smart and evil" if not for his human memory.
7:11 even when you say it i still find that part so hilarious i had to laugh🤣
The raid into the tomb was a lure to the Empire and it gave him a justification to start shit up with the Empire. Demiurge is laying out the strategy and Bonedaddy is just going along with it. But the one to watch, is the psycho succubus that loves him. We should see more of her in season four.
theres ple ple pleiades, isekai quartet, go see it
I love how the back ground characters actually grow from the actions of the hero and the villan. Who is the same person.

"Accidental World Domination", Ainz not even realising this became the plan, from an offhand comment he made in the second episode, for so long, just to say,"Ok, let's roll with this."
When the master schemers of Demiurge and Albedo think so highly that they can only gaze in awe at Ainz play 5D chess while they play checkers, then we hear Ainz's side and we find out he was winging it always gets a smile from me.
This series was so good I actually went out and bought the light novels to compare, and while yes they skip a few bits, I call it streamlining.

Hard to include so much content in an anime. Anime doesn't have nearly the same world building but it is supposed to be compressed.

So sorry for the long comment, thanks for reading. Cannot wait for Season 4.

I specifically like the Battle Maids as they're not max level. I was never one for power fantasy, I like following characters with limits
I wish we could see depiction of that world in anime someday, but that's just wishful thinking.
There was also a theory that touch me not is a corrupt police thats why he was so full of justice in the game to escape his conscience.

Still, I'm partial to Albedo just because she's hilarious when she's away from Ainz.

a very important point that's kinda obvious on the novel but on the anime it wasn't as clear, but still right in the face of the viewer, is when the workers are preparing to invade Nazarick, Ainz, as Momon, asks them why are they taking this job that's pretty much will get them killed? and they said, money, so in his eyes they're taking it by greed, of course, the main team of workers were diferent, but still envolves money, if they had tell him they needed the money to help Arche's siblings, the outcome would be diferent, but even still, at the invasion, Ainz ordered to put a lot of treasures at the surface mousoleums for the workers, enough gold to make them be satisfied and leave, but they still pushed on the job, and the main worker team leader even tried to lie to Ainz using his friends name, so Ainz villian moment is kinda the consequences of the workers actions, he offered 2 chances, the question, and the gold, and they still invaded...

Demiurge’s mental gymnastics will always kill me. He’s so evil yet completely loyal to Ains and the juxtaposition is just hilarious
I really LOVED the Lizardmen arc, and pretty much all of Season 2.
yeah season 2 is where overlord went from a great watch to one of isekai's best. Seeing the world open up and having multiple perspectives outside of Ains makes his later action all the more complex as we don't have main character tunnel vision but have seen things from so many other perspectives

i forgot to mention this but it wasn't in the anime but it was mentioned in the light novel when Sabas got asked what he wanted at the start of season 3 he asked if he could go shopping for tsuare but in the light novel its Ainz who suggests that he should take tsuare out on a date since they were dating just thought it was a cute moment
I bet you reeeed when arche got clapped by shallchair. kek
I wish we could have the series with each of 41 supreme beings to see how different it would be.

Ainz is somewhere wobbling on the line between Lawful Evil and Neutral. Lawful because he is the law!

There will be a random scene like Albedo sitting on the bed with Ainz flag in the corner and Momongas hung up or like a small interaction or flash or off the cuff statement and if you pay attention you can get deeper understanding of the world
Oh I love Overlord (and book 14 released today !)
I am mostly speaking as a light novel reader here but the only light novel series that I think is better than Overlord is Bookworm.
Because when you already know the show is overflowing with background and character details - but those are details that anime viewers tend to miss and often think of as spoilers (which they sometimes are as just having those details pointed out turns subtle foreshadowing into blatant exposition)
There is also an incredible amount of theory-crafting around the series and there are channels that have done almost nothing other than make 10-20 minute lore videos about one aspect or another of the books for years lol
This is less of a standout feature today but when the lightnovel book began in the west the Overlord novels really stood out for having excellent prose.
@@WolforNuva true
Yeah, Overlord's absolutely wild. I believe a large portion of the show/LN is based on the creator's DnD games, which explains where a lot of that good worldbuilding and wide array of characters comes from.
Since I am light novel reader, I know there is quite a lot to look forward to. The only question is what going to get cut out.
big sadness they cut ainz's adventerur speech short. the way it was written in the LN was fucking poetry.

Indeed You hit the nail on the head. I love how he is not the normal good or bad guy
@@Tamerleine let yourself time
This anime made me buy the original light novels.
I want to see more Pandoras actor interact with Ainz I think it would be funny and interesting
isekai quartet does a great job of tying us over with the character until Overlord itself delivers
This actually really sums up most of my thoughts perfectly, I'm glad someone else could put it into words better than I could, thank you
Thank you so much for your review. The side cast etc you are so right!
When I first watched it I loved the anime but than I watched videos on YT about the lore/world of Overlord and than I loved it even more. My fav isekai.
Can’t wait for the 4th season!
it'll be one of next season's best without much struggle
1:56 This analysis really hits the nail on the head especially in the latest season.
To be fair, Ainz as Momon did warn them about the dangers but they just went in anyway thinking itll be an easy raid
I agree I love Ainz and the other gaurdians But I also love the great world building And seeing how what each character is doing I hate mysteries So knowing things from multiple perspectives really interestes and captures my attention
I am going to rewatch this now. Thank you for reminding me how good it is.
People think Ainz is behind Albedo and Demiurge in intelligence. We all forget Ainz is a master strategist in PvP/ GVG battles.
You either get a short story that either ends in tragedy or hope.
whenever I finish a new episode all I think about is how much "ITS A VERY SILENT NIGHT"
I can’t wait for the next season!!!!
hopefully we'll be blessed and when it's over they will immediately confirm season 5
@@AHBrandonReviews yes that’s a big hope
Great video dude, loved how you explained Overlord and all the details of what makes it so good.
IDK if you've seen jobless reincarnation but that is what I would call peak issekai. Absolutely love it and can't wait for the next season!
The part at the end of Season 3 when the one human girl blows the horn and summons SO many goblins, explicitly because she had upped her reputation with the goblin faction, was so moving. The graphics suffered a bit, but they were animating so much it's probably to be expected.
One of my favourite scenes was so cool and funny seeing Ains have no idea wtf was happening cause as he says it was a trash item
@@AHBrandonReviews It gives me real respect for the developers of the game, including powerful hidden conditions in trash items like that.
10/10 review great job!!! Its been a while for me to find a good review about overlord. ^^
I have insane expectations of the movie because while it'll be adapting the longest page-wise novels they are also the most descriptive ones. Meaning it can show like 20 pages in 30 second animation and how characters react to it.
All Hail.
*minor spellin mistakes edits.gif*
Ainz had Fuldar pay to have the Wokers invade the Tomb, so he could 1) gain leverage on the Emperor and 2) Test Nazrick's defenses.....but 1) was the biggest reason!
Ainz wasn't keen on letting the workers inside the tomb, he even left treasure on the surface.
Oh wow, I'm glad I watched this review.
Yes thats the absolute lit of "overlord"... That not just showing how op ainz is .. but more to what happened to the world that ainz live in
I really hope I'll enjoy the week to weekly experience. Overlord, for its structure, is perfect for bingewatch.
Even then I knew this was a great anime which deserved to shine.
anime with best plots and twists belive me, as if the series hypnotized me and the beautiful Lady Albedo herself 🥶💙
If you like this and beserk you might like Bastard!! which is getting a new adaptation by liden films on netflix first batch releases this Thursday.
Something that I think has been omitted from the anime is the number of times Ainz talk to himself in the novel: "I'm an undead with the memories of Suzuki Satoru, I'm not human anymore, I just happen to have the memories of a human office worker"
Sebas was in the top 10 male anime characters on some lists for a little while during those episodes.
Those workers... Well it was not only to get experiments but to get meeting with Emperor and justification to create the country (yes Emperor saw through that in the end but not in time and saw through and call the bluff are two different things)
since i love these political aspects i love most anime which makes it believable and Overlord is doing it quite well and not just believable. Cant wait for start of the 4th season and your reviews
*wrote rewievs instead of reviews
yeah I'd argue given the style of anime it is which generally is more fantastical, overlord is among one of the best at making everything seem realistic given the circumstances presented
I have read the novels and from that perspective the anime looks like "Best Nazzarick moments compilation.".
So it's a fine adaption, but they clearly don't believe in the profitability enough to do it completely. It's as bare bones as movie to book adaptions with lots of content cut just because you don't have time.
In other words:
If you liked the anime and wanna know more about everything. Read the books. The anime is fine, but it's just a very limited sneak peek into the full world of Overlord.
But that's typically the intend of Light novell adaptions: Sell the books. I think saying something is bad or worse then XY if it fully works as intended is ignorant to dishonest.
Season 4 is right around the corner and a new Volume to The Overlord LN is soon to come out as well!!!
I just wanted to point out that the reason the adventurers got invited into Nazarick was multi purpose.
Ainz has some pretty cruel underlings and they had asked if they could have fresh victims
Albedo had been asking for live test subjects for the nazaricks defences
Demiurge had a plan to get the Emperor to show himself and make them their allies
The light novels is even better and highly addictive
I think the reason why Ainz's actions keep going align with Demiurge's plan is because of his "character" stats as he's supposed to be "very smart and evil" if not for his human memory.
