I was shocked at how little information I came across with growing houseplants in LECA. I am so happy I came across your videos. V-

Watching this as I just got done investigating each plant with my phone flashlight😂 I am so interested in converting my plants but I think I am going to try just one to start with. Thank you for your awesome videos on semi hydro!

I'm wondering about the wet dry cycle? Are you constantly stopping off the water keeping it at 1/3 or letting it dry out completely for a day then refilling to 1/3. Hope that makes sense!

Good video! Everyone needed to know the plants you have been successful with and also the short amount of time you have been growing them in Leca. Have watched for a few years the orchid growers that have had their successes and their failures with Leca and with water culture. It is a risk for sure. May not work for everyone. Something to think about though!

Bernie A. I disclosed the amount of time I had been growing my plants in leca in my very first semi hydro video. I also have said almost of this information throughout my videos in my semi hydro playlist. Thanks!

My local hydroponics place sells leca beads in different grades. The size that you are using are normally used for orchids because of their thicker roots. I'm planning on use the smaller leca beads for my calatheas because of their finer roots.

Okay so I did it!!!! 🙈🙈🙈 I got two new plants today and decided to give it a go with them with some leca I had in my gardening supplies. Will have to head to the local hydroponics store tomorrow to get some nutrients! 🙌💁

I am curious if you use the ropes in your pots to suck the water upwards towards the leca?

You could probably add “Mosquito Bits” to the reservoirs for outdoor Leca plants to stop mosquito breeding

Would string of pearls work in hydroponics?

Ugh, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I tried converting a neon Pothos, Chinese’s evergreen and a dragon tree and they’re all doing bad. I guess it’s because I need to use the shower method first? I mean I clean the roots off super good and even trim them a little and my plants just droop really bad or the evergreen is turning a little yellow (maybe lack of nutrients)? They have only been there a month though.

Hi there, I noticed you had a palm at the end of this video. Have you converted palms before? I have an areca, parlour, lady, and kentia palm that I'm interested in converting and was wondering if you do the same process with those!

Yes, I have 13 orchids in LECA with self-watering pots and all are thriving. 5 Phals, 3 cattleyas, 2 Oncidiums, 1 Miltoniopsis, 1 Dendrobium and 1 Vanilla vine. I’ll convert my new Paphiopedilum Maudiae once the bloom has expired. The heavy drinkers, I put a layer of sphagnum moss on top of the LECA and keep that moist but not wet.

Do you think I could move string of pearls/tears to a semi hydro system? My pearls are struggling, even though it’s putting out a lot of new growth the main stems look horrible. I’m in the process of converting anything that’s struggling in soil and anything that I trust won’t die this time of year with the conversion (aka pothos and spider plant).
Also, do you find converting plants in winter is harder? I’ve had a hoya expert that grows all his hoyas in semi hydro caution to wait until spring, but my hoya compacta has lost a couple leaves and I’m afraid of waiting until spring.

Just finished this video. Great information. I will take a cutting of my string of tears and see if it will root on leca. 😊

@ KnotDude kindly showed me his set up as well as told me the prices for the test kit and nutrients. All and all it seemed liked it cost about $50 to start up with one bag of leca. I was concerned that it seemed like a lot of extra steps with the testing and stuff. Could you possibly just do a video where you do testing, give the nutrients and watering?
