Oh my gosh the Pratt and Whitney has such a beautiful growl to it, which for me makes this plane one of the most powerful planes back then, hey let's go Whistling Deaths
Ferocious! That initial blast from the Pratt and Whitney R 2800 Double Wasp engine...raw whirling radial sound never to be duplicated...what a flying machine! Wow!
No matter what view you have of each aircraft from WW2, each one played a significant role in the war and helped secure our freedoms we all enjoy today. The Corsair was a engineering millstone during the war for sure and will be remembered for generations to come.
Nice clean start! Sounds good. Now, for all those that thought that "lumpy idle" sounded familiar, it is. Harley Davidson v-twin engines are built around the same tech as this 18 cylinder rotary engine...with 16 less cylinders.
@Dustin Montgomery the drag is made up with the corsair being made to be more aerodynamic at higher speeds and makes less drag then for example a hellcat
I went to the airport to rent a plane and fly, and I did not know that this Corsair was to be arrive with a B-25 Mitchell at Szeged. It was a surprise to me. I was walking on the airfield toward this Corsair, beacause I had never seen a Corsair before. As I arrived, I was told to stand aside, because it was going to start up the engine immediately. I just took my cellphone out of my pocket and started recording this video. I did not think about the settings, did not have the time for that, and I did not have any other device. Sorry. :-) I did not plan to upload this to youtube, but I'm happy that I did it, and 123 thousand people have seen it and more than 900 liked it despite this imperfectness. :-)
1) is that an inertia starter? 2) did it take that long to start an engine during the war, or is that old age? 3) did Marines ever fold the wings of their land based planes?
Truth be told. I always felt like that engine was on the verge of breaking...the startup and idle sound atrocious. Always about to throw a rod or piston.
@@searkpslendorman The Austrian way, actually, since it's Red Bull... And yes, I hate the logos, too. But I rather have the company that pays for the continued flight of the plane slap their logo on it than not having it flying at all.
Yeah you're right we should just make sure these old war plans rust away into nothingness because the majority of people can't ever afford to sustain one of these planes. Unless you're willing to cowboy up and pay for it, I suggest you keep the complaints to yourself you dumb boomer.
They MUST DO THE RED BULL PAINT FOR THE ADVERTISEMENT TAX WRITE OFF. BUSINESS! 101. These planes are investments or money holders at 2 to 4 million they cost roughly 1200hr to fly just for fuel they only make money by appreciating in value or tax write off.
Nothing beats the sound of a radial engine, music to my ears

A masterpiece of aviation.
Beautiful to see and hear this classic warbird...

The best looking and most versatile aircraft in WWII
Hi bi folding wings?
@@franciscogilberlindosantossous Yup, folding wing's so they can be on aircraft carriers.
Great plane wish I had one
awesome,thanks!
what a pretty ship
The Merlins do have that elegant snarl, however, these big radials simply exude power in a way they inline engines cannot match.

I always felt the same about the Merlin in-line. Unmatched

I love you F4U-4 !!!!
nice sound...

Szegeeeed!
I wonder if this the super Corsair model that sports the P&W R-4360 28 cylinder Wasp Major engine? I could listen to the sound of that engine all day!
Sameee ! Eargasm
No, this is an F4U-4. But here’s what you’re looking for: ruclips.net/video/saBq4omgJCA/видео.html

This video always reminds me the flight of the phonix movie 1969
Why were the wings up? was there a lack of space?
Wasn't it called, "Whistling Death"?
My dad fought in one in iwo jima Lt. Commander Louis Dale
Wait Redbull was a US navy sponsor back in the 1940's? who knew? lol
Dumb question. How does a pilot get lucky enough to fly old Warbirds like these?
Money.
Bi,folding wings?
I always thought that planes moved with the throttle from their own props when on land. I didn't know that the wheels actually have traction
sorry, can't follow... they have differential braking, thats all they got on the wheels. they move under thrust, and never backwards.
In some ways equal or better than the P-51.
Being carrier based made it a priceless asset.
How dare you
When a P-51’s wings fold, you’re screwed.
Absolutely not
The radial engine was one.
why red bull on the plane ???
Apparently these are really hard to start with out flooding or setting on fire Because the engine is upsidedown or something.
Half is
Why do you guys vid these in high-speed? It doesn't look right (spinning propeller).

2) did it take that long to start an engine during the war, or is that old age?

Step up to the plate and sponsor the cost of flying this plane. Bring lots of cash as the operating cost are well above $1000/flight hour
