Ram into some dramas trying to fit a radiator guard onto my 2020 Ninja 1000SX today. Tried to follow the instructions given but from the get go they didn’t make sense. After a while of fiddling and getting frustrated, I found this video and wow! Cannot thank you enough for putting together such a well explained and illustrated video. After watching this, I’d stripped the left fairing, installed the radiator guard and reassembled in less than an hour. For those wondering, yes the fairing construction and fitment is exactly the same on the Ninja 1000SX.
Thanks a lot dude. I'm about to fit de-cat on Ninja 2020 and this video increase my confidence in taking this task on. Obviously you got 7 haters for no reason whatsoever.
I have the exact same bike and colour! Your videos has really helped me out and given me the confidence to this work myself. Put off swapping my out my heated grips for ages. Finally summoned up the courage today to remove the fairings. With your guidance is was so easy and not stressful at all. Much appreciated. Job done!
Thanks a ton buddy...after 4 years of checking this video finally took the plunge last week taking the fairing apart. My first bike drop at age 40 almost after 22 years of riding...thanks to you I did not have to shell put 750 bucks to change a 280 usd fairing part. Appreciate the details...the best guide for the ninja 1000. Cheers...
Jonathan, having just purchased my 2017 bike, your videos have helped in tackling some jobs already. Cheers. Keep them coming. Love the way you explain it all. Nice one.
Made life so much easier, never owned a bike with fairings until now and it seemed a little daunting to remove. This made it so easy and got my gaurds installed in no time
Thank You for sharing. A concise, detailed and really valuable, brilliant quality video. Large companies take note! hire this man to explain your products- under his terms!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm picking up my new Z1000SX this week so will now be able to give the insides a thorough misting of ACF50 before the winter salt and dirt take their toll.
Great vid, was a big help on my slider install. I went with the R&G Sliders and now have a little peace of mind that they are on the bike. Like others mention your very well filmed and clear to follow. Thank you sir!
Fantastically useful......just got a new one and was reluctant to fit my own sliders, what with removing the fairings and all, but watched this and all was well....thank you from the UK!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This has really helped me out. I followed your directions and changed my coolant over to engine ice. I ended up stripping the bolt that mounts to the exhaust so I need to figure out what to do with that. Thanks
Thanks Jonathan! I watched this and your frame slider install video to help me install sliders on my Ninja 1000. Everything went great and I managed to not break anything thanks to your excellent videos!
Thank you for the video... It was very helpful today for fitting Radiator Gaurd... Your doing a great job with Ninja 1000, keep rocking... would like to see more... Thanks again
Hi, I wish to thank you for this video. It is very useful for me how to remove from my Ninja 1000 the fairings. But note that if you have preinstall the kawasaki Frame Sliders you must remove them first, before remove the fairings and be careful to not scratch them. Kind Regards from Greece.
Thanks for the videos John. I have a twin bike and your videos have guided my unskilled hands many times. I have skimmed and rewatched your videos but i can't find where you talked about removing the front side-marker lights. You said something about what to put in their place.....HELP!!
It sure would be nice if companies like the bike manufacturers themselves, or the companies that make the thousands of after market parts that force you to deal with things like the fairing removals to put on their parts, would make videos as good as yours. In fact, they should give you a commission really. I got some no cut frame sliders for which I'll be using your video for sure. And the instrucions that came with them..., I mean, what instructions? Anyway, thanks so much for your diligent and well crafted videos. Being a fellow Ninja 1000SX owner, I use them all the time for learning things and assisting me in doing things I just know would end up causing lots of grief. Nothing greater than having a plug beside the bike for the old laptop. lol
I was putting in so called no cut frame sliders by Hot Bodies today. The right side I only needed to take off the bottom piece, but left, not take the whole fairing off, but do 3/4 of your video- while my Dell laptop sat dutifully on the chair beside myself and bike, lol- enough to loosen the largest part of the fairing to get access to the bolt that's replaced by their own bolt. Maybe it was me, but there was no way I could see that you could ever get the large piece to hook back on to the frame at the extreme top right, the tiny clip. So I took the slider and where the slider made contact with the fairing, made a notch about 3/8ths wide and 3/8ths deep to enable me to be able to get it clipped back on. It worked, but it was very tight. The only thing I could think of was that perhaps Kawasaki changed the fariing slightly between 17 and 19. www.hotbodiesracing.com/product/ninja-1000-2011-17-no-cut-frame-sliders/
Nice video Jonathan, very informative. I like the end of the video showing the frame slider added. LOL! I was thinking you added that when I wasn't looking.
Hi Jonathan, have enjoyed watching your videos,I have a 2018 z1000sx in emerald blaze green, had the bike since march and I absolutely love it,on the subject of the fairing,I noticed a hair line crack next to the indicator on the right side, dealer checking it tomorrow,so hopefully its covered by the warranty,as l didn't damage it,looks like a stress fracture, possibly caused by vibration, keep up the good work! Ride safe

Your videos are amazing man. Very helpful. I wonder if you could make a how to video of how to remove the kickstand on the Ninja1000. I tried mine (2019) and no luck. I can remove the whole thing, the two bolts, but can't disconnect the sensor, and I've tried the big bolt for the kickstand, and it doesn't move at all. Please and thank you.
Hello! Question to anyone reading this, do you have any idea that if you take the dark fairing piece off alone that you have access to the underside of the mirror? I would like to be able to unscrew the assembly and replace it with another OEM mirror, i broke the previous one.
Hi bro I need help to remove the front chain sprocket to clean .. Kindly make a video on cleaning the front and rear sprockets..... Love ur content all the best......
Hey Jon, hope you’re well. Your videos are awesome, thank you. I have a 2019 N1K and there’s a lot of talk to go with a 55 rear tire for better handling, especially in corners. Is there any merit to this? Appreciate your insight.
I know you were showing complete removal of the left, but it's not necessary to take off the lower muffler guard for anything as far as I know, except pulling off the right muffler itself. That little muffler guard is a pain. As you demonstrated, without the bike on a lift, you have to get flat on the floor to see what the hell you're doing! Been there. I have a 2011 Ninja 1000. They've changed almost nothing on the build of this bike since it originated. Replaced my mufflers with Akropovic megaphones and that little muffler guard was more of a pain than the entire job.
The very first piece you pull off What is that called? I need to replace that piece on my 2019 ninja 1000abs? Gray part. The piece has the 1000 logo on it
What brand chock stand and front/rear race stands+spools do you use? I'm having trouble finding race stands/spools for the 2021 1000SX that don't scratch the swingarm, muffler, or brake mechanism on the rear wheel
It’s very hard to find a spool that works with the stock mufflers. My advice would be to take the spools off, and only put them on when using the rear stand for service. I’m using aftermarket mufflers that don’t hit the spoils, and modified spools that stick out a little bit further to allow the stand to not scrape the swingarm.
It depends. A chock is easier and quicker to use, so I prefer it for general bike storage. When I had limited garage space, the chock was an easy way to keep the bike vertical (which takes up less room). But for maintenance or work where you need to be able to rotate or remove the rear wheel, then a rear stand is necessary.
GREAT VIDEOS very informative , very helpful, saves you breaking anything when removing panels ,,,,,,,do you have a video of fitting daytime running lights.
