That's great, Ryan! I appreciate the referral. Between 30 to 35 is a good age to start really getting into Classic Menswear. I started around that age myself but didn't really fully grasp the concept until I was about 37 38. So he definitely has time.
Sony Francois Hey Sony, I’m very familiar with Magnanni and To Boot Ny and my thought is one can do much better at that price point. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Meermin is the best bang for buck value shoes out there. @@thscful This comment is a little dated because the patina program was nearly $260 when I made this comment, but it's like $325 now I think and I do own a pair of shoes from both. The patina program is nice because of how custom it is and what you can really get if you want. However, I do really like the handgrade line more. I think the handgrade line has better leather that creases better and the color fades better. I love my patina program oxfords because they look beautiful and they break in well, but the leather I don't think polishes as well, ages as well, or breaks in as well as the handgrade line. Also, the extra details on a handgrade shoe make up some of the difference. It does have a closed channel sole and nicely finished sole too. I think both are well worth the money, but no question the handgrade is a better shoe imo. I do agree handgrade line does have more limited styles and that does impact what you can get, but the styles are beautiful still. I would recommend patina program if none of the styles are "I need it" in your view
Glad you ended up changing your mind somewhat and making a video like this, because I like menswear and have for years, make good money for my age, and still wouldn't consider spending $500-600 on shoes. Just picked up Meermin loafers (my most expensive pair to date), and they seem pretty decent.
As a French I'll obviously recommend you guys to buy from Septième Largeur. But not only because I am French. Throughout the years and my sartorial process, I have bought many shoes, especially from Meermin, Loake and Septième Largeur. And there's one thing for sure : none come close to Septième Largeur when it comes to quality. Yet in terms of price-quality ratio, Meermin is the best to start : cheap and good-quality. After a while though, you might feel you need to take it to the next level, and here comes Septième Largeur... Cheers and btw, it's really cool to hear you man, your Harlem or whatever ghetto accent is genuinely cool to hear (for a French at least haha).
Agree with you 100% on Meermin shoes. They take forever to break in but they are pretty good looking shoes. I currently own 1 pair of their shoes and 3 pairs of their boots.
Thx, the video was quiet informative. Good that you mentioned where these shoes are actually made. Spain & Portugal have a long tradition of shoemaking. Still affordable; no need to buy made in China.

Solid. Most of the presented offerings do not have 3E widths. I went to each page as those shoes looked really nice. Meermin does, however, they have not expanded it beyond 4 shoes and now only two styles are available from them for me. If possible could you do a shoe video for the 10-15% of the shoe lovers who have limited choices due to foot width? I'm a huge fan of closed lacing systems but that is also a challenge to achieve closure without going bespoke. Other than the few offerings from Meermin I have only found Allen Edmonds offering 3E widths across almost all of their shoes. But AE does not make the best looking shoes yet they are in my rotation do limited choices.

@@markallenwilliams leather quality is wildly inconsistent and the product after only a few wears looks about 5 years old. The Double monk buckles are horrid and because of their poor design the leather strap that goes through them is tearing. The toe caps on all are really strange and have started ceasing very far up the shoe. The heel block rubber is about as durable as as an eraser and it's actually so bad that is being squashed out from under the leather piece that covers half the heel. I could go on, there's plenty more.....
I’m ready to try a Goodyear welted shoes, I’m going to try Meermin.I’m a Pastor and I’ve always worn Mezlans in exotic skins.Thinks for the information.

Vlad, I am a tie aficionado. I hate the look nowadays where someone will wear an exquisite suit and an open collar shirt-yuck! It looks so incomplete. Always looking for a reason to wear a tie and a suit and I enjoy you RUclips videos. So many shoe makers I didn't know existed. Too bad Loake doesn't sell their high-end in the states as they look very nice. Getting ready to have a "shoegasm" in New York this April. Plan to buy two Crockett & Jones oxfords and a Carmina as well. Why C & J can't open a shoe store in Beverly Hills, and save me a trip is beyond me. Of course, I can always order by the web but I want to be at the store to gather in the whole experience!
What’s up, Charles? I’m a tie guy myself and also find every excuse to wear one. I feel like it’s one of those things that can really differentiate you from other well-dressed men. April sounds like it’s gonna be a good time. At least NYC is a dope place to visit, so it’s not all bad LOL. Good luck with your shoes, I’m sure you will love them.
Yes, I tried them on last time I was in NYC and absolutely loved them. Never wore a pair of shoes that were as comfortable as Crockett & Jones. Ties--I own around 150 of them. You should do a video on ties. I have many Zegna's and a few Brioni's but when it comes to simply great ties for a modest price BROOKS BROTHERS IS THE BOMB! I wear some of their club patterns with a PP oxford cloth shirt by them-straight point only for ties and I feel like I am the president of the United States!
Hey Horace, Mezlan shoes just don’t look attractive to my eyes. I feel like there’s too much going on with them for the most part. Magnanni, I’m more familiar with as I used to sell them a long time ago when I worked in t Menswear industry. I feel like there are way better Goodyear welted options at the same price point or lower. At this point, I wouldn’t recommend those brands over the ones that I’ve mentioned.
What’s up, John? I’m glad you like the channel and can relate to it. I was looking for someone like me on RUclips and couldn’t really find one so I decided to create it. Let me know how I can help.
I’m with you on the American shoe styles. They leave something to be desired like some style swag - visions of my Dad on his way to church in Florsheims or Allen Edmonds.

How do you feel about Yearn Shoemaker brand? I really like their Brown Split-toe Grain Derby and price point.
Love them! I do have one on the way, so stay tuned to my unboxing and review.
Amazing video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Thanks a lot for your recommendations. How about DAKS shoes? Is that a nice brand?
All those Spanish and Portuguese brands... Not commonly known outside of Europe. You're a true connoisseur, Sir!
Hey, add me to the fabulous pre-1K subscribers! 😄
What’s up, Mikal? I’m just trying to shed some light on some of these brands that most of my American friends have never heard of.
And welcome aboard cause it looks like that pre-1k train is leaving the station soon 😂😂
I will add Orban's, Loding and Andrés Sendra. I own all of them for more than a year. All of them are Goodyear welted.
I remember when Andrés Sandra was first introduced a few years ago. I’ve never tried them but their shoe coloring service was on point.
@@v_r_ I have an oxford balmoral with deep brown to mid brown patina and I can confirm it. The leather is more soft than the other two and prefer to wear them more!
That sounds awesome. AS makes nice shoes.
I purchased my first pair of Black Cap Toe Oxford from Edward and James(Pediwear). Then two weeks later I purchased wingtips from Berwick (Pediwear) I have finally invested in Quality shoes. Now I am looking to move further up on the scale. Thanks for your research
I’m glad to hear it, Clarence! I hope they fit you great. Wear them in good health.
I love his advice in the first part of this video: start at $300 unless you catch some awesome sale of some shoes that are a couple of years old that a company needs to clear off the shelves.
I'm really digging this channel.
Thanks, Lawrence!
Have you ever heard of studio Belvedere shoes the around 2:50 to $300 i got them from men's wearhouse
I haven’t, no. I’ll take a look.
Can you review Becket Siminon, Ace Marks, and Undandy shoes?
Hey Mark, thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I don’t own any of these brands and I don’t know too much about them. I have a few other brands that I’m looking forward to trying and I will document them on here.
I bought 3 pairs of undandy. Mistake. Total trash.
Aray please explain, what are the issues you found with the brand
@@markallenwilliams leather quality is wildly inconsistent and the product after only a few wears looks about 5 years old. The Double monk buckles are horrid and because of their poor design the leather strap that goes through them is tearing. The toe caps on all are really strange and have started ceasing very far up the shoe. The heel block rubber is about as durable as as an eraser and it's actually so bad that is being squashed out from under the leather piece that covers half the heel. I could go on, there's plenty more.....
Thank you sir - very good info
Thank you, Craig!
I think Skolyx's house brand deserves a shoutout. They don't have much selections, but they look really qualify for the price.
Just subscribed, I dig your style
Thanks for subscribing! I might take some getting used to but I’m glad you dig it LOL
What is code for spier and mackay?
Excellent video! Do you have any recommendations for quality women’s shoes under $300? I’m looking to pick up some loafers.
Awww man! What’s the Spier Mackay code? I just copped some merch from them and plan to purchase more.
Very informative. Very detailed. I would like to hear your thoughts on Peal & Co Brooks Brothers.
Thanks for watching, Ryan! I’m glad that you enjoyed the video. I have no personal experience with P&C but I’ll look into the brand.
I really like your channel. You show that you are very wise in the shoe industry. Also can any of these oxfords be worn in a formal setting?
great video, suprised you didn't mention the skolyx house brand
Thanks, man! You’re 100% right. If there’s one brand that I can truly say should’ve been in there and I forgot about them, it’s Skolyx SMH
is Ike Behar a very good brand on par with Allen Edmond?
I’m ready to try a Goodyear welted shoes, I’m going to try Meermin.I’m a Pastor and I’ve always worn Mezlans in exotic skins.Thinks for the information.
You’re welcome, Pastor!
I love the content that you provide, love the show, and keep up the great work. would you advise where I could purchase vintage, used boots other than eBay or amazon? I'm looking for a pair of the Taft Gladiator boot in chocolate, Is there an online retailer that sells these boots
Thank you! I've yet to really get into vintage, unfortunately I couldn't help you there.
Will you do a video on silk and wool blend suits?
Hey Reddrick, I never really thought about that one.
Thank you for doing the Top 10 shoes to buy.
Great Info. Must Share.
Thanks, Waylan! I always appreciate your support.
Are the lining in all these shoes are full grain leather?
My Meermins took about 3 times of wear to break them in but, they are my to go shoes now.
Gorgeous tie!
Thank you, Charles!
What do you think of mezlan and magnnani shoes.
So glad I found your page seeing someone that looks like me doing my dream job🙏🏾
What’s up, John? I’m glad you like the channel and can relate to it. I was looking for someone like me on RUclips and couldn’t really find one so I decided to create it. Let me know how I can help.
Q about the Meermins- can most cobblers resole the hand welted shoes?
What do you think of Johnston&Murphy. They have fully replaceable soles, are nice looking, and comfortable.
good video for the casuals. They also ought to know that shoe trees are a must. Also shoe cream instead of wax most times to keep the kicks fresh.
..just checked your other vids, and you addressed it. You know your stuff...good channel.
Can you do one on Big & Tall because many of these companies only sell smaller sizes.
What’s up, Darryl? Unfortunately, there aren’t many companies that I recommend that’s doing Big & Tall. Have you tried custom before?
No but I wear a size 13 D
I’m with you on the American shoe styles. They leave something to be desired like some style swag - visions of my Dad on his way to church in Florsheims or Allen Edmonds.
That will be an interesting video, that is my budget I need 3-4 pairs, and I have 48EUR/13USA size -> is impossible to find something off the shelf
Great video!!! I just started watching you and I love all your tips. One thing I want to say is could speak more clearly? Sometimes I couldnt understand what you said lol. Thanks for the tips again
Welcome aboard, bro. I have to work on my enunciation and slow down a little bit. I’m glad you like the videos.
Do you make the same recommendations for suede shoes? If not, would you consider making a video discussing suede options?
Hey Jeff, I usually take all that into consideration when looking at a brand but not all suede are created equal. I will definitely make a video on brands with the best Suede offerings IMO.
Can’t wait! I always look forward on your take on this stuff.
Spot on on those recommendation. I live in Europe and I have most of the shoes on most of the brands you've mentioned. I ended up with multiple pairs of Loake and Meermin. Few more brands to add to the list; Barker, Grenson, Cheaney, etc.
Hey Paul, thanks for watching. I want to try Loake as I’ve heard really good things but they don’t ship to the US for some reason.
@@v_r_ Maybe MyUs.com could do a UK-US delivery or any other site. By the way, I wanted to buy Becket Simonon, Cobbler Union or Thursday but won't send to EU. Or if it would then the taxes are astronomical. With the taxes and all then it's better off getting Carmina instead.
Carmina is really growing and have a lot of stores in many different countries. Great choice!
Do you have a shoe care video?
Watched this video a lot of times now. It's become a reference point for me, so thanks for the info. I think it's time for me to upgrade and start building a quality shoe collection.
