Great list and very helpful. I have Carmina and Cobbler Union on my watch list and can’t wait to get pairs from each. I also just bought some wholecuts from Paul Evans and find the leather and comfort to be excellent, possibly my most beautiful shoe. Of course, they’re Blake stitched. Have you reviewed this brand?
I have several pairs of Allen Edmonds. I like them a lot, however the main drawback with the brand is their quality control. Whether it is a first or second quality, you just have to be lucky to get a decent pair without major flaws. Great review as usual my man. Keep it up!
Great video! New sub. I'm not listening to anybody else when it comes to shoes. I live in Atlanta and visited the Cobbler Union store for the first time last month.

Hey Hameed, I couldn’t put every brand, unfortunately but I’ve heard good things about PE though I’m not that familiar with them. TLB and Meermin are 2 different brands but both from Mallorca, Spain. ✌🏾
Great video Vladimir 😁 those are some good picks. I'd also recommend Yanko from Spain; you can get them for 200 euro on sale, lether that is slightly below Carmina but still good, and very elegant last. Ofc no bevelled waist but at that price point it's no big deal. If you get some shoes from J. Fitzpatrick and Sons of Henrey please review them, as I'm also looking to purchase from them. Take care
Hey Martin, Yanko will be in my under $300 video. They make some really nice shoes for the price. And I will definitely make some videos on J. Fitzpatrick and SOH once I get my hands on them. Thanks for watching.
I have to say, I really like the look of those Cobbler Unions, especially the sole & that quilted heel cup. I'm about to buy my first pair of "real deal" dress shoes & just cannot make up my mind. *I've gone back and forth from several of your recommendations on your videos. I'm not sure if I should go lower priced for my first pair like Edward & James, Meermins or just spend the extra money on a $300+ pair? Maybe Cobbler, maybe Carmina? Or maybe Spier & Mckay? (Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated) I'm in New Car Sales & image matters. So I want to invest in myself & start learning about men's wear*
My advice would be to get the best shoes that you can comfortably afford. Carmina is better than Cobbler-Union but they’re both good. Where are you located?
@@v_r_ I live in Knoxville, TN. So there's not really a lot of options when it comes to viewing quality shoes in person, or figuring out which last is best for my foot. *I buy size 12 in US (which also gets confusing finding sizes on different brands websites) & I measured my width at 4- 5/16" across. I do like a round toe better than squared though*
@@v_r_ I own the Alex last. This is hands down my favorite shoe. Whole cut simple but yet elegant and by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned.
Excellent video - very informative and well presented. While my focus over the last several years has been the higher end spectrum of ready to wear manufacturers, I have been pleasantly surprised of late by the high quality / price ratio and genuinely appealing aesthetics of some newer brands in this 300 - 500 range. Lof and Tung and Sons of Henry both made strong positive impressions with my initial purchases, and Justin Fitzpatrick offers a broad amd very compelling lineup. If I were to quibble with your rankings, I'd definitely put Carlos Santos a notch or two above Allen Edmonds. And by the way - CS does offer closed channel stitching at a slightly higher price (though still competitive with Allen Edmonds).
Hey Roger, I concur with everything you said. I believe we’re in the golden age of really good quality shoes without breaking the bank. Personally, I do prefer Carlos Santos over Allen Edmonds, a little American bias in the ratings I guess. Thanks for watching and supporting.
Not many have sizes in 14 US or 13UK. BUT, at least the two I like most have my size..., Cobbler Union (just got my first pair) and Carmina. Cobbler Union recently stopped carrying my size, but if you contact them they'll send you a pair in your size.
Haha great video, but Carlos Santos needs to be at an higher spot. I bought a shoe from their handgrade line and one from their patina service and these certainly are better than my Allen Edmonds (not that AE is bad, but they just aren't as good). I would put them above a couple other brands not necessarily because of quality (which is still really good, but not anything crazy compared to other shoes on this list), but because they do some of the best patina work of any brand at any point and especially at this price point.
Vlad, Do you have any thoughts about wearing shoes made with less chiseled lasts for Fall and winter? I just find that the thicker/more bulky clothes become that a well chisel shoes disappears under all of that cloth. Think of it like this: if you put ten speed tire on a mountain bike, the look would be off. Assuming you agree, what does this imply about the connection between the best last for a shoe given the season?
What up, Max? I’ve never thought about that, actually. Maybe it’s because I’m not a huge fan of shoes with real chiseled lasts to begin with. I’m more of the round and soft square lasts type. With that said, I’m such a shoe guy that the first thing I always notice is someone’s shoes regardless of what they’re wearing up top. So even with a big bulky top coat for example, a nice pair of shoes always shine as my eyes always look down first. That’s interesting though cause I’ve never heard anyone ask that question before.
@@v_r_ - I just seen so many beautiful shoes on Pintrest with the most amazing line and curves that are made from chiseled last type. It's like looking at a sports car versus an SUV. Having said that, I notice at least on my feet that I just have a desire for a different look in Fall/Winter. You know something that looks as solid and cozy and the thick wool and tweed clothes that accompany these seasons. For Thanksgiving today, I'm wearing brown, suede cap toe oxfords! You?
Very nice Vladimir! I also follow Hugo at Sartorial Talks, and I think he rates TLB as the best in this range, just ahead of Carmina. Says TLB quality is not seen at this price so he considers them a better bang for the buck. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that! Lastly, Crockett and Jones is on my watchlist and they have a few shoes in this range (just some loafers I think) Were they an Honorable Mention of yours perhaps? All the best, and keep 'em coming.
Forgot to add, I replaced my Allen Edmonds shoes with Cobbler Union, so CU and Loake are my daily drivers m butostly. Adding another CNES pair soon and looking to add a TLB I think after that, still deciding.
I have been loyal to the A/E brand for several years because I have less trouble finding shoes in wide sizes (3E). Are there any other brands of comparable quality who offer wide sizes?
I will be honest with you! It's really hard for me to find dress shoes, that I like. I don't like that euro LAST at all. Carmina has some beautiful Exotic shoes, but not the last.
@@v_r_ not the narrow enlongated last! It's hard to find a dress shoe these day. I usually stick with Mezlan. But I had a Hand Painted one made. I guess 2 years ago, but made an adjustment on the last. Making it wider. My first of dress shoes in 11 years. I spent to money to ship back , because of the LAST.
Thoughts on the Meermin Liena Maestro, AE or Cobbler Unions looking for my wedding shoe my suit is green so not as fomal as tux but thinking of these shoes or can I go less formal then an oxford any suggestions are appreciated. Looking at black freudenberg meermin $310, Cobbler Union Robert which are on last call for $335, Allen Edmonds Carlyle Plain-Toe Oxford 296$
Important to mention that A. Meccarielo offers aome models from $300 to $450 which is definitely a low price forsemi bespoke/MTW handwelted in italy shoe
First off, your channel is fire. I do have question regarding sizing for the Carlos Santos brand. I wear a US 10 D with 99% of my shoes. I’m eyeing a pair of Carlos Santos oxfords on their 234 last in a UK size 9 which is equivalent to a US size 10. From your experience and considering the last, do you think they might fit. I ask because these are new on EBay with no return policy. However, the price is very good, $280. Thanks bro.
What’s up, Eric? Thanks for your kind words. My inclination would be to say they should at least be close but shoes are very tricky as no 2 set of feet are identical. Is it part of the handgrade line with a closed channel sole or regular?
@@v_r_ They have an open channel sole. The style number is 10008-Coimbra calf patina. They are brogue cap toed oxfords. I greatly appreciate you responding.
I wouldn’t do it as that’s not really a great deal especially since you won’t be able to return them. Check Mehra instead, they have the same style for even less 👉🏾 www.shopmehra.com/products/style-10008-oxford-coimbra-calf-patina-carlos-santos?variant=31503774941239
What’s up, Prashant? That’s hard because most ready to wear shoes come bigger so they can accommodate as many feet width as possible. There are a few makers that have some narrower lasts but closer to a C. Have you given bespoke a thought? Maybe semi-bespoke? I have a video coming on that sometime in September.
@@v_r_ Hi Vladimir, I have and would love to go bespoke. However, I cannot afford it as of yet. I have never heard of semi-bespoke though (looking forward to your video). I am willing to increase the budget to 900USD if the shoe fits me perfectly however I have not found a bespoke shoemaker in that price range. I have been doing MTO in C widths and putting a thin insole as a solution for the time being. Would love to hear your advice and insights. Eg Brannock 10B - I ordered 8.5E from TLB which is equivalent to 9.5C in US sizing. And I plan on inserting an insole. Any thoughts on this?
Great channel Vlad...can you do an unboxing or video on loafers. I know you mentioned not wearing loafers with suits...what about jackets and slacks w/o a tie????
Thanks, man! Loafers definitely have their use, I’ve actually seen them look decent with a casual suit such as Hopsack or Linen. And they definitely work with trousers and sportcoats. I don’t own a pair at the moment but there’s one from J. Fitzpatrick Footwear that’s on my list so we’ll see.
One very important thing not too many shoe videos on YT actually tell you is that Carmina is IMPOSSIBLE to wear for many foot types, I don’t have difficult feet and none of their shoes feet me! Not a single one, AE do and when on sale they are way cheaper than 495$! Try before you buy!
Would love to hear you comments on Magnanni.Theyre not goodyear welted from what i hear but have Bologna construction and Artisano stitching(no idea what that is).Look forward to your thoughts.
When I used to work as a clothier, we carried Magnanni so that’s a brand that I’m familiar with. I used to recommend them to clients that wanted to stay in the $300-$400 range. But knowing what I know now, there are so many better options out there that I would no longer advise anyone to spend their money on them. I hope that helps.
@@v_r_🤔 Too late,my friend picked up a pair for me on sale for say around $200.I wanted a pair of double monks in my shoe arsenal and the moment my friend sent over the photos,i couldnt resist it.Later on when i began doing my research,i discovered that these arent good year welted which was a downer but like i said it was too late. One thing thats bothering me a bit is the size, the website says one should opt for half a size lower as Magnanni sizes run large. My friend picked up a 42 1/2 EU which im hoping would be fine since i normally wear a 43 EU but still cant be sure until i try 'em on.Fingers crossed!Whats your experience with regards to the sizing?

You did not do TLB Mallorca Artista line any justice. First grade-leather from the well-known tanneries Annonay and Charles F. Stead, an extremely slim beveled waist which continues in under the heel, tight sole stitch of 8 spi and more. Features you would find in high-quality RTW and bespoke shoes! And it's about $100 - 200 cheaper than Carmina that include the same features.
You have a point but at the time of that video, the Artista line was brand new and there wasn’t a ton of info on them yet and I didn’t know a lot of guys that had any hands on experience with them. If you’ve seen the other videos I’ve made on that brand since, I think I’ve more than made up for it. I have another unboxing coming up on them as well, stay tuned as it’s probably the most versatile shoe a man can own.
@@v_r_ so if you had to change the top 3 order, would TLB Artista be #1? I've had two very questionable experiences with Carmina in the last month - quality control and customer service are very poor. Toni at TLB, on the other hand, is, well, super hands on and goes the extra mile. Carmina Rain EEE or TLB's Picasso in G width for a wholecut in black?
I was lucky enough to find some Allen Edmonds shoes in shell cordovan on eBay for $300 plus shipping. They are by far the best shoes I have ever owned. Maybe check out Ebay for deals and also lots of RUclips videos show how to restore shoes with various creams and polishes. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them.
I’ve never handled them personally but a few of my clients have and they love them. I’ve also heard from other shoe aficionados and the reviews are good.
Don't you find it suspicious that your no. 1 choice in your both videos (the below $300 and this one) are brother companies (Meermin and Carmina)? To me it seems you are sponsored by them which its ok but letting people know saves your credibility. Personally I won't pay 300-500 for a shoe built in china and finished in spain.
You couldn’t be more misinformed but you know what they say about opinions, we all have one. Maybe you should do more research before commenting next time or just don’t and sound stupid on the internet. Your choice.

Vladimir can you do a review on Crockett and Jones.
Hey Jason, I’d love to but I don’t own C&J yet. But I’ll get my hands on a pair eventually.
Great video! What's your opinion about Henderson shoes?
Love your videos. I was wondering which ones of these manufacturers make wide shoes since I wear 9 Wide. thanks
Hi Vladimir, I like your videos and your selection criteria. Is it possible for you to review Paul Evans oxfords?
Sub'd. Great content, Vlad! I need to stop by Carmina in NYC some time. I wish Loake would do the same thing and open up a shop in Manhattan.
Thanks for the support, Amos! I’m glad you find the content useful. Buying Loake in New York is really chore. An NYC store would be most welcomed.
Not many have sizes in 14 US or 13UK. BUT, at least the two I like most have my size..., Cobbler Union (just got my first pair) and Carmina. Cobbler Union recently stopped carrying my size, but if you contact them they'll send you a pair in your size.
That what’s up, I like both brands very much. I have to visit the CU store in Atlanta one day.
Vladimir, please tell me, which brand have quality monk strap shoes with brogue, also are there any loafers that have brogue.
What’s up, bro? The Handgrade line is better than AE and I love my first CS from their entry level line. So I have to agree with you.
What do you think of Mezlan? They’re on sale quite often and some of their shoes are goodyear welt. I think they’re made in Spain.
Vlad,
Do you have any thoughts about wearing shoes made with less chiseled lasts for Fall and winter?
How am I only finding this channel now? I have to put my 'you insulted Allen Edmonds' pitchfork down and click the sub button!
Haha…welcome aboard, fam!
Useful video. Thanks Vladimir. I heard that Loake's makes their shoes in India now with the exception of the 1880 line. Is that true?
I've heard the same but can't confirm it. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for some of their entry level shoes.
What type of lasts do you like?
I feel like they naturally fell off a little bit since Freccia passed but that's still a brand that I would love to own one day.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, Stephen! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the video.
@@v_r_ thanks for providing the link. I see they offer returns as well. Continued success and growth for your channel!
Cobbler union! I was wondering if they would make this list
I’m thinking about trying a pair of TLB . Who would you compare the sizing with. Also what do you think of Alden shoes ?
Dear sir which one is the best shoe care product e.g.cream, polish.
Thank you
I use Saphir Medaille D’Or exclusivity and they always do a good job. I’ve been meaning to make some shoe cleaning videos. I’ll make it happen.
What do you think of Magnanni Shoes?
Hi Vladimir, What shoe brands would you recommend for extra narrow feet?
(Brannock B width)
What do you think would be a good shoe for a size 9 wide from Carmina?
What’s good, Demetrio? Not sure I understand the question. Tell me more.
I like the look of the Carmina's. I have small, wide feet. I just want to know if Carmina makes a style of shoe that is good for me
I see, Carmina does make some of their shoes in wide. But it’s hard to gauge the correct sizing without trying them on. Are you in the US?
I just saw that Carmina has a store in Manhattan. I'll go visit.
I be feeling like a kid in a candy store every time I go there. You’ll enjoy it.
Vladimir just a short note to say hello. Hoping all is well with you and the family stay safe brother...
How about Grantstone shoes?
Hey James, I’m not too familiar with them but I’ll look them up. Do you own a pair?
A pair of their shoes (loafers), and several pairs of their boots. Very high quality materials and construction.
I’m looking for a Oxblood dress shoe can someone recommend any
New to the channel great content
Great video, must share. You had a couple of brands I never heard of, so this video was educational to me too. Keep up the good work!!
I appreciate it, Waylan. I get asked about shoes a lot, I’m glad I was finally able to make this video.
What about meermin shoes?
WAY TO CALL OUT THE SHOE STANS FAM. ANOTHER GREAT LIST.
Thanks, bro! I appreciate the kind words and support.
A good, useful list.
Thank you, Antonio!
Brother 💪
You ain't no joke! 👊
I just Love your channel 👏 👍 👌 Your expertise is on the money 💵 💰 🤑
Thank You 👊✌️
Your kind words are greatly appreciated, Gordon! There’s more to come.
I ordered some Loafers fromJFitzpatrick this evening.
My friend picked up a 42 1/2 EU which im hoping would be fine since i normally wear a 43 EU but still cant be sure until i try 'em on.Fingers crossed!Whats your experience with regards to the sizing?
got the shoes, they look and fit great, thankfully.Turned out they were cheaper than i thought.Paid $175 for these. On the website, theyre for $435,exact same style but different color.Im sure you'll agree that at $175,Magnanni is a steal. Please let me have your thoughts.
For $175, that’s a good buy. They’re decent shoes but definitely overpriced. I’d say you got them at the right price. Enjoy them!
@@v_r_ that means a lot! Thanks for the reassurance. There are so MANY brands out there that its difficult to zero in on one.Guess all brands have their pros and cons.Your advice is of great value.Thank you for sharing your experiences.Peace!
TLB Mallorca, enough said!🔥
Good info!
Thanks, my brother!
No Vass Budapest?
You did not do TLB Mallorca Artista line any justice. First grade-leather from the well-known tanneries Annonay and Charles F. Stead, an extremely slim beveled waist which continues in under the heel, tight sole stitch of 8 spi and more. Features you would find in high-quality RTW and bespoke shoes! And it's about $100 - 200 cheaper than Carmina that include the same features.
You must be new here. Do your research on me first, bro 😂😂😂
@@v_r_ I saw your unboxing. I meant for this video, Loake for example you went in depth.
This guy is perfectly in rhythm rapping with the music lol!
THANK YOU!!!...ON POINT!
No doubt, bro!
Hey Stephen, if you’re patient, you can find some real gems on eBay. $300 for shell is a great deal.
They all look great! You are very efficient in presenting information. (Now, give me a heart, or I'll think you're a hater.)
That means a lot, bro. Thanks for your kind words. And I’m never a hater LOL
I’m surprised To Boot New York wasn’t on the list 😳
What’s up, Omer? If you can find some TBNY around $150, I think that’s a good buy. Any higher, you can do much better IMO.
@@v_r_ thanks for the reply. I got mine for $160 just a month ago. Not bad for the price i paid.
Isn't The Armoury from Hong Kong?
Yes they are, I said Japan by mistake. SMH
Love it!

You’re right, that’s the flagship store. The other one is in NYC where I am. But the shoes are made in England.
I just realized I said Japan by mistake. You’re 100% right.
Anyone has any personal experience with Yanko shoes?
I’ve never handled them personally but a few of my clients have and they love them. I’ve also heard from other shoe aficionados and the reviews are good.
@@v_r_ thanks Vlad. Merry Christmas. I spammed the same question on another video apologies
Also, do you know any (EU) seller besides Skolyx? They won't be re-stocking a pair I'm looking for
Check Patine and Seamless Bespoke.

Would you ever buy of the rack?
Nice
Thank you!
Yo Vald I’m going all the way in on my first pair of CapToe oxfords? Holla at me👍🏾
Allen Edmonds is the best fit
Please learn to love Allen Edmonds!!!
Haha...shoutout to AE
Don't you find it suspicious that your no. 1 choice in your both videos (the below $300 and this one) are brother companies (Meermin and Carmina)? To me it seems you are sponsored by them which its ok but letting people know saves your credibility. Personally I won't pay 300-500 for a shoe built in china and finished in spain.
You couldn’t be more misinformed but you know what they say about opinions, we all have one. Maybe you should do more research before commenting next time or just don’t and sound stupid on the internet. Your choice.
