  • As the founder of TEDxTilburg & Filosofest, Jens Wilms has strived to try and create a place where people can connect and share ideas. He strongly believes that there is not one truth; the only thing people can do is share their perspectives and be open-minded about others so that they can figure out what works for themselves. In his talk, he expresses this by having a close look on alcohol its effects on this generation and what people can do to notice these effects and impacts as to become more aware of our surroundings. As the founder of TEDxTilburg & Filosofest, I have been trying to create a place where people can connect and share ideas. I believe that there is not one truth; the only thing somebody can do is sharing their perspective and be open-minded about others so that they can figure out what works for themselves. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Great talk. I definitely find not drinking extremely liberating. No more hangovers, no dependence on a poison, no hiding bottles, no shameful trips to the liquor store, and more.

@@jonjosyson6484 Thanks! I got sober October 5th, 2020 so about 13 months now. There are some days I think about drinking, but so far I’ve resisted. I quit & drank a number of times before holding on this long. Keep up the good fight! Tomorrow is a new day.

Ugh. Nothing worse than the shameful trip to the liquor store to see the clerk whose seen you come in every day of your bender. Looking worse and worse every day. Just averting eye contact the last few times out of humiliation. I remember when I got laid off from my job during the first year of COVID. I drank every day until I just ran out of money. Started at bars socially and then devolved until it was every day secluded. I put on clothes only to walk a block to the liquor store. Dark, dark time.

TV has a big impact on peoples habits. That's why I love how on the mentalist...he always drinks tea. More shows should send our kids non alcoholic messages.

I admire you, god bless you and people like you. We need you for our young people and not so young people. Too many people suffering because of alcohol addiction. Terribly hard for people to get free of their addiction when alcohol advertised everywhere and part of nearly all social activities. Its very sad. Well done to you. I wish you great success. You are doing a great service to people. 👍

The worst thing ever was the withdrawal symptoms I suffered and did not know the severity of them, alcohol withdrawal was the worst thing I have ever experienced and I have had 3 csections........my entire body shook for almost 4 days to the point I could not drink out of a cup and even shook while I slept in detox made my blood pressure sky rocket and caused tachycardia (high heart rate) I thought I was going to have a heart attack and couldn't eat during this time as well as having to take multiple medications to prevent siezures mad to lower my blood pressure....hi my name is Amber I am 30 years old and an alcoholic.
