This video just randomly appeared in my timeline. I play a lot of YuGiOh but rarely watch YCS events because it can be often quite hard to digest and Konami seems to enforce pretty dry commentary a lot of the time. Yet watching this commentary everything was clear, concise, and just colorful enough to be entertaining while still informative. Amazing analysis, definitely earned a sub and keep up the good work!
If you watch european events the casters are alot better, and feel more natural
I'd definitely watch more analysis videos like this one. I feel like I don't have the level of game knowledge to just watch a set and get it, but this explained things so well I was able to follow it perfectly.
Check out the European YCS streams instead. The casters have a lot more energy and excitement, the interviews are better, hell even their downtime content has a lot more quality.

Love the editing and explanation. As someone who kind of "gets" modern Yugioh but doesn't really know the nitty-gritty technical details of the current format it really shows how interesting the decisions to be made in each game are.
really good video, i was expecting just a commentary recap of the match but you did something so much better, you made yugioh understandable to a non yugioh player, i showed this to my friend who cant get into yugioh and they Got what was going on in this vid because of you, keep it up you're doing Amazing work

I love this format of breaking down YCS/WCS games and top players. The visual guides help breakdown what is going on better than watching someone watch a replay and narrate over it live and we lose track on what is going on, onscreen. These breakdowns are amazing. Keep up the good work man randomly saw this pop up and can't wait to see the rest of your videos and future ones.
It's always correct in that scenario to keep Imperm in hand and use Zeus in the EP. Hydrant + Little Knight is so much pressure that one Imperm is absolutely not worth it.

I mean this feature was crazy but it ended up coming down to purrely bricking despite having literally 19 starters. To put this into perspective, going 2nd with 6 cards there is only a 1.41% of not opening a starter. That’s one hell of an unlucky hand for a game 3 feature.
Purrely wouldve won had he used zeus during end phase. That game shouldve been his but he messed it up.

It was a mistake but he definitely was still not favored. Play correctly and santoli was going to pass with his second s:p on board ash in hand with Clifton top decking.
Here's an extra bit on Clifton's "Misplay". I replied this to someone else but I thought it would be good to talk about it:
The decision to Zeus in the End Phase is not as straightforward as you think. In that scenario Clifton's only interruption is the Zeus for the next turn. Considering that Santoli set zero cards and the only hand trap he activated was Impermenance, there are three unknowns in the hand of Santoli.
A reasonable assumption is that a card like Triple Tactics Talent could be in the hand to punish a possible endboard like Clifton's. It just so happened that the card this time was Enemy Controller. If the hand for Santoli is any playable Engine + Talents, Clifton likely loses the game on the spot, since a draw 2 just needs to see any Rescue-ACE extender/Starters.
So instead he goes for a wide board to hope to corner Santoli into his Nibiru in hand by committing more cards to summon.
You can argue that he played it too safe, but considering the options it was a reasonable misplay, that again, takes unbelievable foresight to avoid.
This is probably some of the best yugioh commentary I’ve ever seen

This is a very well done video, that shows things happening in the duel that many people (me included) would miss or wouldn't think that they have such an impact on the rest of the game.

Steven using every facette of his cards (SP being able to banish own monsters, Hydrant not being an on summon effect so he can use it on his turn again, making imperm alive) is brillant

Yugioh tournaments are hard to follow, hence why I rarely follow. You should continue doing analysis videos like this, maybe on classic duels (YCS finals, rogue decks doing well, great players and why they are great etc.)
I have! The videos are slightly worse quality than this one imo, but the plan is to do one of these for every YCS recently, but I'll see if I can dig up some classics.

I agree with your analysis but for learning purposes, it might have been xompletely fine to zeus on Steven's standby forcing the sp and then chaining imperm. This is because given stevens turn one play, he doesnt have any followup besides a potential topdeck. Given the odds, zeusing makes sense to do even if its not value immediately

That game 1 was one of the worst performances I have seen from someone in top cut , Clifton made multiple misplays that were just ridiculous, first of all you pointed out the obvious one which was to use zeus to wipe out the board in the endphase, especially since he knew that Steven had no other engine cards in hand , now as for the fact he didn't use imperm on hydrant was even more ridiculous, now the fact that Steven had enemy controller just ended the duel right after the zeus misplay because even if Clifton used his imperm it would have forced out the econ that would win Steven the game right on the spot , now despite that Clifton doesn't know about the econ he still should have used his imperm on hydrant since Steven literally had no way to stop it had he not drawn econ so Clifton played that really badly to be honest

Another excellent video, no doubt. However, I'm intrigued by certain comments you make around players that keep vs. set impermanence, or the two-of side deck choices. I think those not so common practices are what define a play style with lots of potential. It sounded to me like it's a bad thing to do any of those mentioned actions. I agree with you on the Zeus "misplay", bad judgment. But there's no way of knowing what Clifton was thinking on doing. Great video, sir.
Oh no, that's a thing I champion, I tried to say that despite the criticism from those uncommon decisions, he's able to prove himself. Watch back the N3sh deck profile with Santoli after he won with Exosister, he was absolutely skeptical the entire time. It's odd, but despite all of that, he rocked the entire scene.
I want to interview Santoli and talk about his two of theory, it's really neat imo.
On the Clifton point, I can't necessarily predict what a player is thinking, but if we didn't try to do that we wouldn't be able to understand why the mistake happened. Maybe I take the time to talk to the players after the fact.

It’s kinda wack overall choosing not to set the cards gives him more insolation against the Zeus line but kinda just bones him if The opponent has more engine. It woulda been super interesting if The opp just went ep zeus whilst the sp was still offline because once santoli uses Econ to yoink zeus the imperm comes back online. It’s a very understandable missplay though especially in a top 16 feature
All that he would gain is a set e-con when his game plan is to banish his own cards with little knight so it’s just a dead card if the purrely player gets to field spell and they can eat it with pretty so you’re basically offering them a free +1 material on their noir instead of the line that Steven played
I think it's really smart for Steve to not set the Imps to potentially let his opponent misread him, but ultimately having 3 handtraps, especially the Imps, before siding probably would have ended the game whether he did or did not set the Imps.
As for his opponent, I don't really think he misplayed. The only thing his play loses to as far as I know is a control-shifting card. In every other situation setting that Imp is the correct call.
I play like this but yes if more ppl focus on playing the cards they are dealt instead of just scooping on brick not only will help you make better decks but also strengthen your technical skillzzz

So the lesson is to keep imperm in hand if you have a way to get your field empty and not set it you play Zeus. Pretty logical.

Noob question. Can anyone help me understand why Steven plays 2 S:P Little Knight? What are the advantages of having a dup S:P and what combo/negate can/should you pull off when having 2 of them? thanks ahead of time
The Rescue-ACE Extra Deck has so much space, that you can play two and do it over the course of the game. There's no combo, it's just two of a good card.
Don't think about Yu-Gi-Oh being just one turn and win, you can just end up using two of them in A LOT of your games
Seriously speaking, I'm so happy when I see pros doing moves I usually do, because it gives me some self-esteem. I always keep imperm in my hand when I go 1st in G2 or G3 with a deck that has a self-removal monster (like Scale Bomber in Beetrooper) to have at least 1-2 interruptions after I get Evenly'd.

I was thinking about making this a segment in the video, but didn't want to hover along one complicated topic for too long. It's a debate at the end of the day, you have to consider from the player POV.
@@PhyYuGiOhIf Steven had Tactics that's even more reason to activate Zeus in EP since it's very possible you don't need to do anything the following turn because Steven is clearly lacking engine cards.

Because Santoli just tags out with Little Knight, you'd rather have the extra card in hand as discard fodder, or save it for the crackback turn from Santoli. To be honest it would have messed with Steven a little bit, because now he has a token on board, but there's no way Clifton would know that reasonably, the he'd need the Nibiru as a beater.
It's certainly a viable decision to use or not use it, the game takes a different line, but neither player gets insane value from it.

Physical card games have the advantage of bluffing out enemies vs. if u would play on MD for example. Dont try this at home kids lol
Nah you could do this on MD, but then you might run into TranscodeBackUpdateJammerSummonAccesscode and you may look a little goofy, Steven had good knowledge of what he was up against.
@PhyYuGiOh yeah i guess tournaments are slightly more balanced than the clusterfuck of random decks on MD and the organized structure of rounds and side decks
