This is the second video I have seen you post this on. I would like to ask you a question in return: What in religion do you not like and what in spiritual life attracts you?
NolSoul Religion is a political system to rule people. Spiritual life brings you ability to develop your spirit, experience and know God in personal. And also, later on maybe help humanity after you develop your spirit pretty good,
mts I'm not arguing this case. I'm just going to inform. Some may say that religion helps one interact with God. In new monasticism there seems to be an emphasis on disciplines. From my research in spirituality this is also the case. I hope this helps.
mts some resources you might want to look at are Living Mission by Bessenecker or The 12 Marks of New Monasticism. They emphasize spending one on one time with God.
have been helped by people who are "well off" to help me get started on my work and survival (living costs exceed how much money I make now). Same with Jesus. Was their generosity "invalid" because they were well off (not necessarily poor)? If all people were "poor", how were they able to fund Jesus's ministry? If all my friends and family were poor like me and chose a life of struggle, how would they be able to support me? Wealth can be beneficial. If someone hoards their wealth that is
They added "in the spirit" for a reason, because it was what Jesus originally said and it was there in the Greek. Secondly Jesus's reservation was for the rich, religious, or powerful--ridiculous. One of his disciples was a taxpayer, Zaccheus who he befriended was a rich man, he schooled Nicodemus who was a pharisee. Jesus had to depend on the rich to fund his ministry, and he even had to borrow a tomb from a rich man. He did condemn the religious, yes, but only the hypocrites.
1) Those are valid, but they are not condemnations of being rich. 2) "Jesus was more often with the poor than he was with the rich" Errr, I don't know about that. He was people that wanted to be with him that we were seeking more--they were rich or poor. 3) Zaccheus repented for corruption and greed, not for being rich. 4) he showed in many teachings that it wasn't beneficial--I don't see it. God can use someone's wealth to bless people. I myself who am not stinking rich (i have internet!
Right, and you are suggesting that Shane has it right and that all Christians should become poor? "A Christian who supports the rich and powerful."? What does this have to do with anything? I am challenging your opinion that Jesus condemned rich and powerful people--he did not.
So you're saying that Mattew 19:24 isn't valid? Or Matthew 6:25-34? Jesus indeed did frown upon being rich without being generous. Jesus was more often with the poor than he was with the rich. Zaccheus repented for being rich and gave half of his belongings to the poor and returned everything he had come into wrongfully. Jesus didn't come to condemn, he came to heal and free from the burden of sin. He didn't have to condemn being rich, he showed in many teachings that it wasn't beneficial
Shane is a good spokesman for a growing movement,
He is just a really good person. Keep serving our Amazing God my Christian brother.
Franklin Graham could learn a lot from Shane

Blessed are the poor in spirit, not poor, Shane.
Wow. Please study the word more and your eyes will be opened
I know this is a bit late to your comment (4 months) But I would be interested in what you believe the deeper religious issue's to be. Thanks!
Jesus was a radical, communist hippie. He was pretty awesome.
He’s not necessarily a New Monastic as much as a New Christian Community per The Acts of the Apostles
Are there any good really spiritual non religious monasteries out there??

Churchianity is Christless, it's just a biz!

Read the beatitudes in the Gospel of Luke. Blessed are the poor, but woe to you who are rich...
