- I view my commonplace book as a lifetime project. It is a book to store facts, knowledge, recipes, book notes, quotes, recipes and other important information that I want to retain and pass on to future generations.
Commonplace books are essentially a scrapbook with useful information of every kind - unique to the creator's particular interests.
They are not chronological or introspective like a planner or journal is.
I will save and record the most important tidbits from other sources (Kindle notes, things I have recorded in other planners and notebooks, articles I have saved on and offline, etc) and add them to my commonplace book.
Commonplace books or commonplaces have been around for centuries and many of the greatest minds in history have kept one. Bill Gates keeps one today!
This video is a flip through of my commonplace book so far. I started it in June 2019 and I have a lot of space and pages to fill over my lifetime!

I came across the concept of a commonplace book recently, where someone was using it to record things that might inspire their art, but I didn't know the history of it, which I found really interesting. I don't have one yet, but I certainly have many notebooks awaiting a purpose! x

I thought this notebook was perfect to use in this way. The gold-edged pages do add a special something! It wasn't expensive either.

A bit off topic, but I love your handwriting, it's really cute. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses fountain pens on paper that's not necessarily made with them in mind.
Aww, thank you! That is so sweet! Particularly as I see my handwriting as quite messy! I am always on the hunt for fountain pen friendly paper! I hate having to write with anything other than fountain pen! Keep me posted on your favourite finds won't you!

Always good to have a name for it isn't it! The cover is from Planners Anonymous and the book is from a sponsored ad on Instagram! I have seen the same book on Ebay though if you search for journals it comes up - it was around £7 I think and has lots of pages!
I love the thick book. What is the name of the publisher?
It doesn't state one but it says Believe on the front and can be found on ebay. I think it must be Chinese made. Cute and chonky though isn't it!

I have tracked down a link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6939-Vintage-Leather-Cover-Thick-Blank-paper-Notebook-Journal-Diary-Notepad/263920545619?epid=20023442772&hash=item3d72e3ef53:g:oqMAAOSw~FlbkP0R This looks to be the same product! There are a few different sellers on ebay. Note that the quote on the front isn't translated very well, but that doesn't bother me too much as it isn't very noticeable and I have it in a cover anyway. It says "Believe. I believe that the most beautiful thing is worth waiting and the sweetest fruit needs patience."
