hey guys! i wanted to let you guys know that for the month of March i will only be uploading once a week, every Tuesday, on this channel. Long story short.. i've had to cancel a trip recently, which i had pre-planned videos for, so my video schedule is a bit out of whack. but everything will be back to normal for April - thank you for understanding!
I'll be wandering around lost for 1/2 the week not knowing what to eat...that's on you! 😛 But completely understand, my travel plans are also being curtailed as well, and I'm pretty sure everyone understands that your job takes a lot of effort and planning!
First time viewer - Even with the passing of a few years your video is still fab-U-lous! The video's pace, your clear descriptions & finishing with the perfect beat, make it very watchable. Top marks! - I've always thought of those laksa tofu pieces as sponges.
As always an excellent video on Singapore and Malaysian restaurants. I am glad you picked lower priced venues as that is typical for those locations. My favorite is Singapore Laksa from a hawker stall - I went to one on the top end of Orchard Rd in a basement food court. Not luxurious but great taste.
Hey Janice, I also have a place to recommend for Hainan chicken rice. It is called East West Gourmet in Chatswood Mandarin Center. Their chicken is de-boned and comes with the vegetable broth. You get to choose between the breast or the leg and is under $12. On you way home stop by Cafe Gram and pickup some souffle pancakes for dessert!
:) Always look forward to watching your videos every Tuesdays and Fridays. It is like a reward after work. Really like the positive vibes and interesting videos. Ty for the heartwork :)
Jimmy's is a little hard to find from George Street but go into the building from the Pitt Street side and it's easy. It is on street level and the first place on the right down the walkway. Malay Chinese is packed out every lunch time so try to get there around 2pm if you can.
The best Hainanese chicken used to be by Ginger and Spice in Neutral Bay . Some how they closed the restaurant and moved to little Spicy Lane in Central Park . The standard has gone down . The place look like takeaway .
The char koey teow looks a bit oily. There are many kinds of laksa in Malaysia. Hope you get to try them all. And thank you for the videos. Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Great stuff Janice...lovely to see you eating so well !!! I ws in Eastwood last week and I think of you every time I drive down Rowe Street !! Great stuff...well done !!
This video was great. Didn't know about Ho Jiak, so I'll be sure to try in the future. Malay-chinese is definitely one of, if not the, best malaysian restaurant I know of around sydney. Great video.
Popped by ho jiak today due to your recommendation :) actually ended up sitting at the same table you sat at haha. We had Hainan Chicken Laksa and Kari Kay with egg noodles. A little disappointed we couldn't get roti there but we enjoyed our meals anyway!
Hi , loved this video can not wait to try so many of these places out . Do you know any where you can buy the brown tapioca pearls from ? Or Japan snacks anywhere in Sydney. They are so hard to find out in Rouse hill area .
Hey Janice! Great way to get our attention with that food at the intro. Haha Chicken rice is one of our favorite, but not many places make it quite right here. Malay Chinese looks like our kind of restaurant too. Looks very homemade. That Car Koay Teow has our hearts though. Amazing looking. :-) Thank you for the food tour.
The chicken and rice looked amazing, as did all the food . I will share this with my friends in Perth for them to see so when they go to Sydney next time . Always interesting and informative vlog. Nice vlog as always
Hi Janice, you are always so kind, every dish your tried is so good in your mind. However, I personally feel the chicken rice in Sydney is so far behind those in Singapore. I remember those nice chicken rices in Novena Singapore, every stall offers such a nice and tender chicken rice. I love it so much, but can’t taste any more now.
Janice, love how fun you always manage to make Sydney look 😄😄 we always struggle to get hyped over Sydney! Haha we really need to take some lessons from you and Nick and Helmi on how to talk about food! Everything looked so yummy!!!
That dark red chilli paste does not look like the quintessential orange-coloured, sourish chilli sauce to be eaten with chicken rice in Singapore, if possible with a bit of ginger paste. But as long as u find it tasty !
Oooh! I rate Laksa King > Malay Chinese because they have a duck option! Pretty unique for laksa 💖 Great vid! Glad I've been to all those places too 👌🏼
Ahhh yes I used to go to laksa king a lot too because I worked near there for a while. But always still stuck to chicken because I’m boring like that haha
Janice I'm Malaysian and I always recommend Malay Chinese takeaway for authentic Malaysian curry laksa, chicken rice and I love their char keow teow too. Great choices
Jimmy's is well worth the visit but can be hard to find. It is on the Pitt St side of the building up a short corridor. She is right about Malay Chinese which really does have the best chicken laksa in Sydney. Try to avoid 12 - 2 when both places are jam packed. They serve decent food at Ho Jiak but the prices are crazy high.
For a 'cheat's version, you can actually buy jars of the ginger/garlic paste at Asian stores (probably labeled 'Chicken Rice Paste' etc). Just add it to your rice before cooking and soon enough, the whole house will be filled with a delicious fragrant aroma!
OMG Hojiak is my favourite Malaysian restaurant right now. Love their lohbak and CKT (the pieces of fried pork fat OMG). Did you know the Jimmy’s adds fresh milk to their laksa broth? You need to try Temasek’s laksa if you haven’t. I like it more than Hunter st shop coz the broth is more lemak. Love this video Janice.
That restaurant was abt 100yrs old hence the quality... it was recently in the news for some bad publicity. Stay safe & healthy Janice! Looking fwd to tues!
Agree with the places above. I usually get my Laksa from the top of Dixon Street. Also would love seeing you review places outside of the Sydney CBD, such as An Restaurant in Bankstown. The places in the city do not come close.
All those different kinds of foods looks amazing and I'll have to check those places out when im in sydney. Your videos are awesome and thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks...Chicken Laksa it is today, just what I need on this cloudy & cool day! Is the Char Koay Teow similar to Beef Chow Fun? The Nasi Lemak looks really good too, I don’t know what it is about Sydney but your restaurants make the food look so appealing!

Not sure how you got such cheap food at ho jiak town hall, I went there this week and it's super expensive! $55 for the rendang! I guess things have changed in 3 years. But the rendang and the pork belly stew were amazing.

If you ever go to Malaysia Kuala Lumpur you'd need to go to kl China town at the madras lane wet market there's 2 curry laksa stalls they both are very similar really to die for. It is a bit unique cause it usually has steamed eggplants and green beans in it. I believe they got the lonely planet channel approval hahaha
