      Yeah you can drill a hole with almost any bit and have no tear out

    Note the *COMPLETELY* different amount of pressure applied to the drill in the first two compared to the third. If you drill with anything that's slightly sharp slow enough, you won't get any tear out.

      Can’t say I agree with this. I experienced tear out on plywood with slow speeds all the time.

      @@TheHeadincharge i beleive the product only works slow, and to make the comparison seem large between the two he went extra fasy on normal bits and extra slow on special one

    They are awesome bits for clean holes. I have no issue with forstener bit, I find if you drill when the stock is clamped properly it works much better.

    You pushed the forstner bit through the wood when exiting so naturally it would tear out.

      True but I've used all 3 bits too and the owl bits are definitely the best by a large margin.

    That looked like you have barely any pressure for the bit whereas the others you applied a lot more causing bigger tear out at the end

    Ok that was unexpected, this drill really works and it's not just a marketing trick or something, I like the idea for someone who is in a wodworking to try things like drills , jigs, bits , screws , etc because it's more believable that you're buying a good product and that you spending your money on something that wil last and really works.

    I have sharp bits that don’t tear out. Run those “owl” bits through a bunch of sheet metal first then push really hard to drill very soft pine plywood.

    It helps if you don't stand on the drill bit. It's obvious he was pushing as hard as he could when the bit shot through the back end like a missle.

    I would like to see this test again using a controlled weight. It felt like you were pushing a bit harder on the 1st 2 bits.
    I could be wrong.

    I'll use a backer board with either the twist or Forstner bit and save my money to buy some of that 3/4" Baltic Birch you use for scrap.

      You don't need to put as much pressure with the overdrive bits. Izzy Swan has a video with these bits and others on hard and soft woods with more than one person doing the drilling.

    Speed of push through and bit sharpness has much to do with tear out!! Have to say, the Woodowl does look nice!!!

    It's just a revamp of the bits from a "Brace&Bit" set.... they have wing-cutters that score the wood and cut the fibers as they work through the wood.... tear out is also relative to your pressure....so....

    Always stop a Forstner bit when the center point comes through the backside and then finish the hole from the back.

    I usually put a sacrifice board behind the board I don't want to tear out. But that is a nice looking job it did, even with differences in pressure used.

      @@thegermansherlock9845If you’ve used Forestner bits you know they don’t chew through wood very well. And regular bits will chip out the back. Not saying this wasn’t exaggerated to show the problems with regular bits and forestner bits, but even putting those examples aside and just watching the auger bit go through and the results were enough to show how well it performs.

    Forstner bits are intended for drilling flat-bottomed holes. Yeah, you can use them to drill through holes, but they’re a poor choice unless you use a sacrificial backing board.

    Also watch the speed of his drill , vary high on the first 2 bits then slowed it down on the last.

    It is a borer bit design is hundreds of years old. that first bit you used was designed for metal, the forstner is designed to make flat round dents on wood and the borer bits are used for wood, the original versions were hand spun into timber for hundreds if not thousands of years. but good advertising for the company that actually sells the right bits for the right job

    Why did you use less force at the end with the owl bit? You can see you backed off or hesitated right at the end before it broke through

    I live in europe... we have wood drillbits.... the first we call a steel drillbit.. we use it for steal the wood drillbit has a little point an is wayyyy sharper

    I can plainly the OWL bit cuts perfectly. BUT that was a crappy Job using the forstner bit, most of us drill the forstner bit until the tip pokes through and then switch and from the other side.

    A forstner bit isn't designed to drill clean through. It's for drilling flat bottomed holes. Of course it's gonna have blow out. Plus the force applied was way harder on the first 2 bits as compared to the third. Gonna have blowout if you force it through the backside.

    Forstner bits not design to make a hole but counterbore. Any brad point drill makes clean cut.

    Don't fall for this cowboy's advert! He over drove the other 2 (too much pressure) and worked the owl bit though... Also he didn't use the forstner bit correctly as you're meant to stop when the pilot breaks through and then bore from the other side...

    I use wood owl bits at work(lineman). They cut a hole as smooth as a shotgun barrel

    Not all bits were treated the same it's fairly obvious. Maybe it's better maybe it's not this test is rigged either way.
