  • An intimate and first hand account of youth and mothers who have become grim statistics in a murder epidemic in Toronto. Intertwined with a first person story, runs a narrative of a community under siege. This is not just a ‘south of the border’ problem. An alarming wave of black youth violence is spreading through the Toronto neighbourhoods of Regent Park, Rexdale, Scarborough and Jane-Finch. Families are gripped by the tragic loss of their children and though many of the victims and their families know the perpetrators of these violent acts, there is a code of silence that allows these ruthless killers to continue walking the streets.

So very sad! Toronto is not the only place that this is happening. I now live 35 minutes from Buffalo, NY USA. I grew up in Buffalo, NY and this is still happening there. I’m a pediatric RN and the things that I see and hear are horrific! How can we change the mind sets of these killers? It’s not only Gangs, it’s not absent fathers….. it’s so much more! Praying this stops….heartbreaking!

This is the end result of fatherless families. Men, stand up for your children and take responsibility for your actions and raise better children.

It’s bigger than fatherless families. I know successful black men that never knew their fathers. It’s the system, the music influence, corruption and so many other factors. Indeed not having a “father role model” could be a factor.. but it’s bigger than that.

i came to Toronto as a child 24 years ago. iam in my 30 . i have lived evrywhere in toronto jane and finch, east york , scarborough and dowtown . One advise i would give is to avoid goverment housing project at all cost if you can. Its better to find another living arragment even if its more crowded and expensive .you will notice that non black imigrants who are also struggling financialy rarely end up in those housing complex. Its harder to find a job in those areas . you get constantly get approched by drug adddicts who assumes you are a dealer just because you are young and black . its easy to catch a stray bullet or been mistakenly shot .

You know that’s not the only way a woman becomes a single mother right?

@@__TheTruthYes, but that's how the vast majority of single mothers become one in the first place.

Amen I was just thinking this! These young men had no fathers in their lives or have a male role model to help shape these young black men. But ultimately single parent hood should never be an option for any woman.

Black genetics is the common denominator. Not being male, not being fatherless, and not growing up in a certain area. They behave the exact same worldwide

Education is a key to your own future...!!!
No matter how impossible it will become for you on that path to a diploma or a degree...
You alone are in charge of that journey...
No one can do it for you...
    More importantly though...
No one can take it away from you...
Get out of the "death zone"...
Move on with living a life...

35:57 that boy was right they only care when a big loss come or when someone die we protest but death is the final result we must come together b4 that happens. Tbh i dont think we can solve this its the same thing in america and ghettos all over the world and that is the reality of it, if u are born into poverty this is the life and it will be hard. True, our parents come here for better but the devil works here too.

States with the death penalty and the most people on death row have the highest homicide rates. So having the death penalty or accountability as you say prevents nothing.
