  • John and the crew discuss if anybody is excited for a Star Wars movie centered on Rey Skywalker who has been played by Daisy Ridley. Rey Skywalker, once known only as Rey, or as Rey Palpatine, was a human female Jedi Master who fought on the side of the Resistance in the war against the First Order.

    1. Canceled project after canceled project. How can anyone can excited for that
    2. As it's been mentioned, no trailers teasers etc. Still super early
    3. Disney has released several lackluster Star Wars content in the last several years

    5. The Rise of Skywalker was so bad, and it ended her character on a bad note. Her character (not Ridley), is a complete mess. "I don't have to be ashamed of who I am!", "Oh.... I'm a skywalker". Character assassination at its finest
    6. Star Wars has an extremely divided (becoming uninterested) Fandom.

Who ever claimed that "women should not be in star wars"? Please stop making things up! Did anyone say that about Leia? No, she is considered one of the best female heroines of all time. (Unlike Rey). People disliked Rey because she's a Mary Sue character, not because she's female. Get over it.

John loves to make up hate comments and use it as a blanket statement for why everyone hate her character. No one has ever said women shouldn't be in star wars, in fact Leia was one of the most beloved characters even more so than Luke and Han Solo. John's statement is absolutely absurd.

BUT they haven't done much with her character in the movies, more threw her around between other characters to see who THEY were, before thrusting upon her this Jedi legacy (let's not get into the Skywalker thing). Plus the Luke stuff, plus the problems of the sequel trilogy. Like.... I'm done?

I am really not interested in Rey. They had three movies to make me like her, and by the end of it, I just didn't. Kylo Ren was the most interesting character and they did him dirty in the end.
I would watch a movie about Finn if he became a Jedi, but they really missed their chance with that one. I think it would be best if we just forget the whole sequel trilogy exists. We should move past it, go to a different era with a different group of characters.

If anything, it should be picking up Finn's story, 10 years after The Rise of Skywalker, as a rogue Jedi, learning on his own, and gathering former stormtroopers to his cause, and then bring Rey in at the very end of that movie for a small role in act 3.

One of my biggest disappointments in the sequel trilogy was that the new Jedi Order that Luke started after episode 6 completely and utterly failed by the time episode 7 started. All in the name of redoing the Original Trilogy. So what I want to see in this movie is a new generation of Jedi needing to prove themselves worthy enough to carry on the torch. I want the story that Disney, Kennedy, Kasdan, Ambt, and Abrams, so stupidly decided wasn't worth exploring.

Yes the Nostalgia Awakens made money, but Solo lost money, Last Jedi lost money, Fall of Skywalker lost money. Usually sequels make more money than the previous movie. The Force Awakens was an extremely overhyped movie held up by memberberries and the possibility of seeing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia. If those characters we're not in the movie, it wouldn't have made that money. Its not Daisy Ridley's fault, JJ Abrams can't write original content.

Did you just say "women shouldn't be in star wars"? Like anyone ever had an issue with that or said that. The issue with rey has always been she's a mary sue. She's boring and sucks. Bastila shan, Kreia, Leia (Original trilogy), and The Jedi exile set the bar. Flawed women, powerful, and interesting. Disney should learn powerful characters suck if they don't have flaws.

i dunno i think for me my biggest issue besides not having a clear thought out plan was they advertised this last trilogy as the end of the skywalker saga yet a skywalker wasnt the main focus. im not saying ray,fin or poe couldnt have been in it but really i wanted three things out of that trilogy. 1 i wanted to see 1 last adventure with luke, han and leia involved as main players,i wanted to see lukes jedi academy and i wanted a fulfilling end. i remember ryan johnsons interview on why they killed luke off, simply because he was in reys way and they wanted her to be the focus. now just imagine if they had actually mapped out the three movies before hand and came up with a meaningful story arch having your main characters luke, han and leia return together but in addition to them adding rey, fin, poe and ben solo. if they had done that and did something the fans wanted you basically could of had your cake and ate it too because people would of been more into the idea of rey taking over if luke had been her mentor throughout the three films but now people just see her as the person that replaced luke because thats what ryan johnson and cathleen kennedy wanted.

Rehabilitating the sequels to the average viewer is key to lucasfilms plans going forward. They don’t want to only be stuck doing prequels and deepfakes forever. They want Star Wars to move forward into the future and like it or not, Rey is many young children’s Luke Skywalker. My niece only started watching Star Wars because of Rey. Almost everyone loves Daisy so really all you need is a better plan / script and people will fall in love with Rey again as the wise Jedi master leading the next generation so that in 10 years they can make episode X - XII

The Force Awakens was the worst Star Wars film EVER! It's nothing more than a horrendous remake of A New Hope where they essentially copy already existing stock characters and plot elements, change things around a bit, then inject the whole thing with a double dose of toxic feminism and identity politics. Then as if things couldn't get any worse, the 2 following sequels were equally horrible. Everything was a complete incoherent mess that I'm not going to get into since it's already been laid down by other commentators who despised Di$ney Star Wars as much as I do. Di$ney Star Wars should be decannnoized and scrapped from history! People need to start protesting and rebelling against these ideologues who've taken over our favorite childhood franchise. Start defunding them by refusing to watch their films and start demanding new leadership!

For others, it’s the Original Trilogy. By the time that this Rey film will probably release, it will be ten years or more after The Force Awakens. That will mean that most of those kids that were introduced to Star Wars through Force Awakens will be excited to see the characters they grew up with onscreen again.

Imagine TFA starting with Finn being overwhelmed by the Force during the opening village attack. The First Order is all he knows, he’s been brainwashed to think the Jedi are evil but he’s forced to go on the run and is taken under the wing of Luke Skywalker: the boogey man he was taught to fear, who instead shepherds him in the ways of the Force so Finn can dismantle the oppressive regime which ran his life & that which destroyed Luke’s new Jedi order.
