I was in England when the Dave Clark Five we’re reaching their peak and meanwhile the Beatles were gaining popularity at home in the USA. I always really liked the Dave Clark Five !!!
@@dorothycollins2431 I was one of those kids who thought that they were "better than The Beatles". But then some things happened. It was obvious that they never played live on Ed Sullivan, Shindig and other shows while The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones did. And that time they did try, it was gawd awful. Then came Dave's movie. It was promoted as a DC5 movie, similar to A Hard Day's Night, funny and fun. But it wasn't any of that. It was a Dave Clark vanity project. The "Dave Clark Five" did not appear in the movie. The other men played stunt men and some of them didn't have any spoken lines. Maybe Dave got away with paying them less if they didn't speak. In later years the apologists have cited the movie as "visionary" and "ground-breaking" but that was not how it was received at the time. The kids who paid to see it felt cheated. The critics called it boring and derivative, right down to the way Dave went off by himself, just like Ringo did in AHDN. Later that same year the DC5 did appear as themselves in a movie. It was Get Yourself A College Girl. In London they were filmed miming to a song that nobody had heard of and that was grafted on to the movie in Hollywood. Later and in some cases, many years later, the truth began to leak out. Dave Clark had billed himself as a former stunt man in movies. That was a lie. He also described himself as a movie star. That was also a lie. He was briefly an extra in four movies. He took a composing credit on every original song his group recorded but now we know that he didn't write a thing. He recorded in secret with session players, with everyone forbidden to talk, even now it seems. That smells of a non-disclosure contract. If we'd had the Internet in 1964, Dave Clark would have never got away with his lies. Sirius Satellite Radio would not play any DC5 songs on the 60's On 6 channel but that changed after they were inducted into the Rock Hall. Having said all that, if Dave Clark assembled an honest box set with all the songs including recording dates, the names of the actual composers and the names of who played which instruments and who sang, I would buy it. But don't take my word for it. Watch this: ruclips.net/video/bDMiHPFMMM8/видео.html&ab_channel=TheGuitarHistorian
A good song, is a good song forever, and this is one, as timeless to those that can appreciate the nuances of the tune! Plus the sound of a great Hammond organ, always adds the icing on the top! A great tune from a time of when there was an explosion of great music! I think we were spoilt for choice back then in the 6o's, as the great tunes just kept on coming. And we never really appreciated how good they really were!
absolutley beautiful not to many songs can give that certain feeling deep down inside and this is definetly one of em these guys are way better than todays garbage
On October 2, 2010, As the brides father, I danced to this song with my daughter the bride, It has extra special meanings for us. Thanks for posting this great clip.
They DID write many of their hits, including,"Glad All Over", "Try Too Hard", "Everybody Knows", "Come Home", "Can't You See That She's MIne", "Catch Us If You Can" as well as most of thier album cuts. Ron Ryan wrote "Because", "Bits and Pieces" (originally as a country tune, revamped by the DC5) and my personal fave-"Any Way You Want It". I also love their cover/hit versions of "Do You Love Me", "I Like it Like That", "Over and Over" and "You Got What it Takes". Thanks for the memories...
My Band was at the time a pretty well known popular rock band back then. A Surf Nantasket band. Jerry and the Impalas. Memories are still clear. Such wonderful time's back then.. Jerry. B.
I just heard this on the radio and had to look it up! Thank goodness for the oldies stations they introduce me to the greatest music. The 60's were in my opinion the best decade.
I was in junior high when I saw the DC5 in concert. This song has always been, to me, one of the best songs of all time---such smooth and beautifully harmonic vocals out of those young guys. Thanks for posting this , and thank you for the music, DC5. (This vid just viewed 3 hrs before me---I'm glad to see that your popularity lives on!)
I met Dave and the boys in the 60s when I was going out with Mikes cousin George, I was at Mikes house when they had just toppled the Beatles from the charts, and I can remember looking over the balcony at the black limousines that werev pulling up outiside Mikes flat. We all then went to Dave Clarks house in Highgate, what a smashing guy he was, and Mike was just the best. Great songs and great memories. They all should be re released.
I was 8 when my older sister who was 14 had The DC 5 records the 45 RPM records back in the mid 60s ! This is my favorite song but also love Whiter Shade of Pale and I had a Dream ! I sing the songs with the videos ! Also love Blonde s Heart of Glass song !The Monkees Bee Gees Abba Dave CLark Five Procal Haruim and Deep Purple Janis JOplin and many others are my favorites !
I have always loved this song. Never knew who did it. I found out this year by accident, when my Mum saw me trying to find "new" (to me it is! FANTATIC at that!) music from the 60's. She suggested the DC5 and honestly I wish she had suggested them earlier! One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. RIP Mike,Rick and Dennis and thank you. Lenny and Dave... thanks for this music.
This is such an awesome song! I love this song so much, one of my favs. Tootone is so right, you will see one day exactly what we mean. They just dont make great songs like this anymore. I was just a young kid in the 60's so I didnt get to fall in love with this song until later in life. Love love love it!
love the dave calrk five....wow!!! my sis went to see them lots...i was too young...but i remember sis teaching me their songs ..lol!! sweet music hunni thnaks xsimple fun music then .....have fun a llx
Can we say that the best groups and music were during early 60s and mids 70s?,Gosh that generation was the happiest of all they were such a lucky folks,I love this kind of music,i wish today"s music were as good as it was,THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND, WE THOUGHT THEY"D NEVER END, OH MY FRIEND,we are older but no wiser for in our hearts our dreams are still the same.
OK checklist>>> Suit and ties, ck, Standing STOICally ck, simple melody lines, ck, this is 50s PERFECTION of a music group. THANK GOD the 50s are over and better music of the 60 and all that jazz, nobody but nobody gets dressed like they are ready to go back to their office and work.
great band at the time..used to see these guys a lot where i lived in1960s in tottenham north london.mike smith smashed his e type jag in white hart lane , they left it at the bottom of my road for about a week.just a bit of usless info .thank for posting
This is a great song! It is a fresh and distinctive sound, it stands up against any of the great rock and roll ballads. Thanks for posting this video. The Dave Clark Five had a great sound but had to play second fiddle to the immortal Beatles.
@TheChicagotommy My friend, quite a song, even after all these years. So glad you and your daughter danced to this song. They sure don't have songs like this today.
my teens know Elvis songs, because they live with me, your teens live with you so they know the beatles. 2years ago on americn idol thier was a duet with celine dion and elvis they annouced something to the effect who is and will always will be americas # 1 idol elvis Presely,,,, i think that is what most people think so your right to each his own you cna wathc it on utube
I agree with you. A lot of would be fans don't realize what a great group these guys are. I fell in love with Joan Jett's version of "Bits and Pieces" and Donnie Iris doing "Glad All Over" without realizing until much later that it was remakes of these guys. I'm in my early 40's now and would like to here more DC5 on the radio. I went to Best Buy to see if they had anything yet, the salesperson never heard of them. I forgave him because I was the same way 15 years ago.
Elvis was pure Electric ..His voice alone was King..His early contribution to Rock & Roll was foundation in Rock & Roll...I do not know a better song in 1956 then Heart Break Hotel..It had everything..
Very well said taypar! And their hit Glad All Over knocked I Want To Hold Your Hand from the number one slot on the charts! This great band had too many incarnations to develop any continuity, but this DC5 package here was the most successful.
On this day in 1965 {February 14th} the Dave Clark Five performed "Because" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Six months earlier on August 1st, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #3 and spent 10 weeks on Top 100... I saw this performance back when. Their shirts and ties were different shades of purple. Jackets were white as I recall. Beautiful song...flawless performance.
I played this 45 over so much that I had to pay 99 cents to buy another one. My dad was pissed, but I mowed the lawn twice that month to make up for it. Those were the days, my friends!
When this song was a hit the radio DJs asked who would be bigger, the Dave Clark 5 or the Beatles. Both made good music but the Dave Clark 5 is not remembered as well as they should be. This song is really one of the best songs of one of the best eras of rock and roll music.

@MROSEN62 Your so right. Between 1964 and 1966, 15 consecutive top 40 US singles. Not even the Stones did that. 18 Ed Sullivan appearances, more than any other group from the UK. No, there is no way they deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

I didn't come along until 1974, but I grew up on my parent's vinyl--and for that I'll always be eternally grateful. This song is just beautiful.
Yes that was great music!!!!!!
Old-timer here...one of my favorites in the 60's. Glad all Over was my favorite song of theirs.
VERY sad news tonight. RIP Mike. Great singer/musician. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and music.
This was one of my favorite songs by the Dave Clark 5 back in the 1960's. I bought the record in the mid-60's.

Thanks for the flashback, ah the 60s. Great time to be a teenager. And the music has been time tested, for a lot of the 60s bands.
If I recall , the band, in the beginning, was often mistaken for the Beatles.

I saw this performance back when. Their shirts and ties were different shades of purple. Jackets were white as I recall. Beautiful song...flawless performance.
Beautiful melody ,Dave Clark ,Five
Big fan of DC5 back in early 60s. They competed with the Beatles for a little while till they ran out of new songs.
They were great. They had many hits over a couple of years of popularity.
This is the most romantic song ever! ove it!
que linda¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
me trae lindos recuerdos de los mas lindos que e tenido....because because i love you
Priceless memories.

True but the new music will be found to have had no heart...well not as much as this music. This stuff is great as is alot of music from the 60s. I am 34 and love DC5! It really is special music.
What a real nice song. Perhaps it does sound like a Beatles song but really the best intentions and a heart.
These guys cracked me up. They never pretended to be into music for anything other than $, but were really good in spite of themselves.
Great song. Thanks Dave.
This is one of the best songs of rock and roll.
My favourite band when I was about 5!
And I still think that they are great!
This is a great video.
Thanks for posting.
Rest in Peace Rick Huxley. Your music continues entriched my life
Thanks Rick Huxley for helping contribute to The DC5 sound, a top notch band. Beats the hell outta the rap/hip hop/metal garbage of today. RIP

I love this song so much. Music isn't good like this anymore.....
I was in love with the group when I was a little girl! One of my all time favorite ballads. Too bad today's music has no melody.
