  • Join @Ewanwilson2315 as I review Singapore Airlines business class on board their A350 from Brisbane to Singapore. They maybe rated as the second best airline in the world but are they overrated?

Hard to feel crowded when you are the ONLY person there 😂 I think as long as you ask and they give you it is fine. I don't use most of things they give in their amenity bag and found it to be a waste.
Choosing the right cut is the key to having good steak, doubt they cook it on the plane.

Thanks for your thoughts. I can see your point regarding no point having something you’re not gonna use. You’re absolutely right They didn’t cook the steak on board but frequently crew while rewarming the steak overdo it. in this case, they executed it perfectly, but you’re right, I needed to use a different turn of phrase. Thanks for watching. Really appreciate your comments and thoughts.

I flew business with SIA Mel -sin -Newark return October 23. Must say that I thought service was only ordinary nothing outstanding. Food was great though and cabin crew friendly but not overly attentive apart from food service. Slow to provide drinks after ordering, like 10 minutes or so was frustrating. Expected more from them after all the hype. Next time if I was to fly with them I would be a bit more proactive in requesting service. When I’m paying big big dollars for this I now no longer have any reservations about pressing the service button when I want something and not waiting for them to get around to me.

Thanks for the insight. You are so correct about needing to be proactive in requesting service I recently flew business class on Asiana and found them quite poor so was quite happy to press the call button to get attention .

Strange as I flew this exact route 2 weeks ago on the same A350 configuration but in reverse SIN > BNE (SQ235), I was also fortunate enough to be in business class and the flight offered 2 meal services (Dinner & Breakfast). I think your particular flight got it wrong or SQ have since made a change to the service 🙂

I’m pleased to hear they offered both meal options! Hope you had an amazing flight.

It’s interesting about the amenity kit and food service- I wonder if it’s all in the aim to reduce overhead cost and waste etc- tough when as a consumer you’re having to pay more and more and we’re getting less and less

Yes I think you are correct. They will of course say it’s an environmental strategy to reduce waste but I think is more about cost saving.

Rightly or wrongly SIA classifies Australia as a *regional* destination hence the onboard catering is not as generous as it would be on a long-haul flight. It's been that way for many years. I can understand that for routes like SIN-PER but not for services to BNE/MEL/SYD which are similar in length to a transatlantic sector.

Hi Alex You make a good point. I am just about to release a new video on SIA SIN -AKL. It was a 10-hour sector so lots of opportunities to impress. Watch out for it.

Thanks Ewan, a great review. Wow 1995 It seems so long ago. The food looks superb. My only experience with SQ was in 1979 when i flew Jakarta to SIN, after 6 months in Bali. Look forward to the rest of your travels

Was not the "older" cabin, you got the regional one. In fact the lang haul cabin is the older one
You cant say QR is better or SQ is better, I know both and it always depends
QR offers dine on demand, SQ offers a much wider selection of meals
QR offers QSuite, but you can end up in a 2-2-2 cause of last minute aircraft change
QSuite on 787-9 doesnt offer more space than those regional SQ seats
QR offers pajamas, SQ offers unlimited wifi
    and and and...

Thanks for your thoughts. You make some good points.
I guess the obvious response would be the airline rankings certainly tried to determine which is the better carrier in a number of specific categories weighing, both soft and hard product analysis. I note that Skytrax is saying SQ best airline with QR number two but QR is rated the best business class which I agree with. The great news is both airlines are pretty good . It comes down to every individual flight at the end of the day..safe travels .

Nah I used to think that, but when you are paying big dollars for it you should get a better than average service -as long as your not rude, there is nothing wrong with being a tad more demanding considering that’s what you paid for.

Ewan, well done my friend I will be departing BNE very soon to Changi and onto Bangkok. Business Class. Are you able to verify if I can say have a steak then say scrabble eggs for breakfast with no problems. I normally use to fly from BNE with Thai Airways I'm a member but now I have to fly to Sydney, I refuse to fly out of Sydney there is always Drama / Delays. As I live just over an hours drive to BNE its more confident and so much cheaper for my Car Storage as I go for 12 weeks. Anyhow I enjoyed your video many thanks. Take Care - John Mc

Hi John lovely to hear from you. so you can definitely order via the app a few days prior to your flight.
I’ve copied and paste below from the Singapore Airlines website.
You’ll find everything you need to enjoy an unforgettable dining experience in the air with ‘Book the Cook’. Choose from a wide selection of meals, including creations inspired by our International Culinary Panel, at least 24 hours prior to your flight. In some cities, you need to order at least 48 hours before departure.
so order your steak online a few days before your flight and then order your breakfast from the in-flight menu.
have an amazing flight. Let me know how it goes.
      Kind regards
      Ewan

    Snooty. Snobbish.

Hi Sam I agree Singapore airlines can come across very snooty and of course some of that is justified due to the broad market reputation and very high office but this comes with high expectations and when they don’t deliver they need to expect criticism. I did a subsequent flight with them and they were very good so maybe they were just having a bad day.
