    Same problem with assignments, what made it worse was that my uni was heavy on group assignments sooooooo at the end of my first year I lost a couple of friends because of my inability to get anything done before the anxiety-fueled hyperfocus. ( dropped out in second year tho )

    Thank you for the simple, direct and honest approach. I can relate to much of what you say. I was able to complete college and then get a master's degree so people would consider it very improbable for me to have ADHD until I was correctly diagnosed. In the meantime my house has always been chaotic, I'm constantly wrangling new projects that I don't finnish, have poor time management skills and have a very difuse and efimeral sense of long term planning. Once again thank you for including us on your journey. Godspeed.

  • @714KH
    @714KH 3 года назад +5

    This story hits so close to home because this is pretty much how I was growing up. I my case though, college was when everything went downhill. In college I was given too much freedom and a complete lack of structure. Not to mention the fact that I could not decide for the life of me what I actually wanted to do in life. I managed to pull off a 2 year diploma (most of which I have completely forgotten right now), but it was only because the school I chose had an actual structure that forrced me to attend classes a majority of the time. All I really wanted to do at the time was just have fun. I get easily bored, so I did whatever I could to have fun.
    I've just hit 30 now, and after talking to people who have had a diagnosis since childhood and after realizing how much staying at home due to covid impacted my mental health, I recognized myself in a lot of their behaviors and stories and figured this is most likely what I've been dealing with all these years. I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist, and we are working on a diagnosis, but I am almost certain that I do in fact have ADHD. And it's been crippling me this whole time like some invisible force, keeping me from reaching my maximum potential or getting my life going. Thank you so much for sharing, because it's always comforting to know that you're not alone.

    • @myadhdjourney
      @myadhdjourney  3 года назад +2

      Hi Andrew. Thanks for sharing your story also. And I completely relate, although maybe I was (lucky?) to hit the wall much later, I definitely relate to not reaching my full potential and this disorder holding me back. But 30 is still young. Maybe even 36? And we still have time to achieve it all! Keep going!

      @Andrew Cotton can relate some, in college is were I started going downhill, the college I went to made you attend, or you were penalized, so it kept me on track some. Only went a year and a half but my grades were not the best, but it actually helped me grow as a young adult teaching me to take responsibility for myself, keeping my own schedule, paying tuition, scheduling classes and the whole nine yards that goes with college.
      Right now I'm currently unemployed, of my own doing, not fired, and know I need to get to see a.specialist to help me with my adhd inattentive type. "Sigh" 😐

    Im just starting on a similar journey in Australia, not sure if I have ADHD, but I do have many of the signs, and often think of my self as lazy and/or poorly organised. Im yet to have an assessment done, but Im curious, had you had an assessment done before your GP prescribbed Ritalin?

    • @myadhdjourney
      @myadhdjourney  3 года назад +1

      Hi there, I had some very basic assessments with a friend who’s a psychologist. My GP felt that was enough to give a trial of Ritalin. But when the Ritalin didn’t work out for me he won’t prescribe anything else until I’ve had a full assessment with a psychiatrist. So I’m waiting patiently (or not so patiently) on that now. There are some online tests you can take that give a very basic indication if you wanted to try that? Good luck with the journey anyway!
