Bless you Laurence. Watching your videos always make me feel good about my country. All you hear is negative things about the USA in the media, stressing whats wrong and never discussing what is right. Trump kept saying "make America great again" but this country is great as evidenced by how many people want to live here. 🇺🇸
Love the mention of jungle jims and cincinnati. Local grocery store for me. However yes you can get pretty much anything and it’s been that way for decades.

I've been to Sequoia, Yosemite, Zion, The Grand Canyon & stopped in Redwood Forest/Pacific Coast Reserve while driving down PCH aka pacific coast highway.
Great questions! I've been to 20 states, mostly blocked together in the north/north-east. I seriously haven't been to enough national parks, but chief among those on my to-do list are Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon. Parks are among my favourite American experience.
Lost in the Pond The Grand Canyon is amazing. It looks like a painting. Also be advised that they do have inclement weather. We went in August 2002 & were not expecting it to be chilly. We had to buy sweaters at the gift shop. You're probably used to the cold. Sequoia National Park feels like you're on an alien world. We took a picture at the base of the "General Sherman"
You must BOTH be lucky charms! Look at the winter we just had! Laurence, I had to laugh at the question "How do you find the Americans?" When they asked John Lennon how do you find America he said, "Turn left at Greenland." I half expected you to say that! LOL!! You are "bang on" about why we like to watch your videos (ONE of the reasons). The US is all I know, I have no point of comparison, so I like getting an "outsiders" view. So Kemosabe, what are these "eccentricities" you speak of? I'm serious, what are American eccentricities? Are you talking about our directness and optimism as mentioned in an earlier video? I'm sure peanut butter could be found wherever you go, though it is kinda famously loved by Americans. I currently live in southeastern Europe, and here you can find peanut butter in almost every store in any town.
Well, no. And sadly, there isn't much choice anyway as far as different brands go. I wish there was, cause I love peanut butter. And I wish it was more popular :( Also, I should correct myself- they're mostly available in bigger stores, supermarkets and the like, not really in small stores.
No, but I'd like to be one day hehe. I'm sorry if it seems like I was deceiving you. I love English, and I basically grew up on American TV shows from the 80s and the 90s, even though I was born in the 90s. I was born in Croatia, and TV here used to lag behind, at least in the early 2000s.
Just popped up on my feed so I know I’m behind the times, but I might have an explanation for the abundance of British food in Indianapolis. They have one of the seminal race tracks in the world, Monaco, Circut de le Sarth (le Mans for those of you who aren’t car nuts like me) and the Indianapolis motor speedway make the triple crown of Motorsport. So as one of the biggest race tracks in the world they have to cater to all kinds of not only tourists but team members, the UK is still king of Motorsport in fact it’s easier to count the teams in F1 that don’t have a base in the UK than those that do (there are 3, Ferrari, toro rosso, and sauber) and that’s just 1 major racing series. Indycar definitely pulls drivers, engineers, crew, etc out of the UK, some have more brits on their team than Americans. So people in Indianapolis started catering to the influx of brits at first then acquired the taste as more teams set up test facilities at “the brickyard” and it stuck... that’s my theory anyway, sounds good anyway!
#AskABrit I think one time you mentioned the midwest superstore, Meijer; they have a decent international aisle. I had a couple of really good candy bars in my Christmas stocking years ago...from Great Britain, I can't remember the name, though. It was delicious!
Aussies would love Southern California especially if they’re from Sydney. The weather is almost identical! (If you flipped around the seasons of course)

We are getting an Australian Cafe here in Des Moines, Iowa (and don't worry, I double checked it wasn't Austrian, though we already have a great cafe that is!)...very exciting for something different...though I must admit, I'm not sure really what to expect in terms of the food....is it really that different? And I'll give Vegemite a try.
Hi Laurence. I lived in Australia for a few years, and I find that one thing I have missed probably more than anything else, is authentic fish & chips. Living on the shore, there was a fish shop on nearly every block! So I’m wondering: A. Do you miss it as well? B. Have you found a decent American version? And/or C. Do you make your own? If so, can you share the details, please? I really enjoy your videos, and appreciate all the research you do. Also, I’d like to suggest that you get an American driver’s license. I had to learn to drive on the wrong side of the road, in the wrong side of the car, with a standard transmission! But because of the state from which my American license was issued, I qualified for a light truck license down under. I was told if I could drive in the Rockies, I could drive anywhere in Australia, better than the Aussies do. I thought that was hilarious! But seriously though, if you plan to continue your travels from state to state, the ONLY way to really see this country is via road trip (I’ve seen 46 states, so far). That’s an awful lot of driving for one woman. So, why not go for it? I have faith in you. 😉
The only Australian place that I know of here in the US is Outback Steakhouse and by what my Australian friends tell me, it isn't even stuff that they eat. So...I have yet to eat at an authentic Australian restaurant.
Yeah, it's embarrassing. For authenticity, you'd think they'd re-run episodes of Neighbours and have more Kangaroo replicas. Seriously, though, the British-style pubs tend to revert to stereotypes: Churchill pictures on the walls and Premier League scarves everywhere.
@sovereignty rules I re-watched the video and what's the deal with the coats? I'm in California and I HAVE a few coats but I rarely need to actually wear them. When these gents are talking about crazy people it makes me think they haven't spent time here in California where every third person is crazy and every fifth in that group is "certifiably" crazy. Some people say everyone here is nuts. Coffee served last? Sorry, I don't understand . . . I turned on my coffee machine first thing. I'll have some beer and wine after we finish a couple of errands, then more coffee, and later some more coffee, then dinner with coffee and wine, and after dinner some coffee, and finally some coffee before I go to sleep. No, I don't have any difficulty going to sleep but I'm old and old people like to sleep.
@sovereignty rules I was born in PA so I know it's cold when the temperature is so low that you can't get your fingers to close tightly enough to hold the zipper to zip up your coat.
In the 1920's or 30's....I think the mayor of Chicago said if the King of England came to Chicago ( I think it was for the dedication of Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park... he would "poke him in the nose". I guess too many Irish immigrants in Chicago at that time.
I honestly can't imagine wanting public transportation over your own vehicle? Grimsby looks spread out, how did you get 3-5 miles away? With your own vehicle you're not at the mercy of timetables. I just don't get this at all. I want to be able to go wherever and whenever.
Never been to Australia, but I'm an American and I think I'd rather live there than Chicago. Seems to be more a giant California with great beaches and scenery, and Tasmania. I guess one negative there is the abundance of nasty spiders, but no place is perfect.
its funny because the brit is becoming everyday more american, the aussie is losing his accent, and the american comments on this video and channel, have a very british sense of humor
So funny you should ask. I actually gained around 30 pounds after moving here in 2008. That was back when I lived in Anderson, Indiana - a not particularly pedestrian-friendly place. I sort of fell into the fast food culture there for a while, too. Thankfully, in 2015, I shed all of those 30 pounds and got in good shape.
Did you enjoy your first American Election? Reading online at BBC, Daily Mail, and other places, it sometimes seems US politics is on British television as much as it is here state side. Is British television really swamped with American politics as it appears to be from online reaction?
It really did seem as the whole world was watching our election together last November. It's also a one way street, I suggest most Americans don't care (or try to care) to learn about British politics or events over in UK/Europe. Do you think British students/citizens know most of the presidents since World War II? Most Americans don't know anybody but Churchill, Thatcher, and maybe Tony Blair.
We don't have the wild and crazy world of TEA here. Most Americans would not know that though. The selections in London may be unsurpassed in the world.
I admit it: I am a loud eater! Ha, ha! Nice video, guys. I subscribed. BTW, how can you tell an Australian from a New Zealander by listening to them talk? I do admit we Americans are loudmouthed and are braggarts!
Just one question. No native American in his right mind would willingly move from somewhere in Indiana (or anywhere else in the US) to Chicago unless their employer paid an enormous salary and required the move, or maybe the wife/significant other wanted to go home (to ChiTown). So, why are you there?
I did business in Australia for about 10 years. On my first visit my customers presented me with a Vegemite sandwich which they DEMANDED I eat. I thought: "Geez...they wouldn't put crank case oil on a piece of bread and have it kill me...would they?" But...of course..the "customer is always right" so I ate it. I think it WAS crank case oil...and if it wasn't I'm guessing it TASTED like crank case oil. Well...it didn't kill me...but I STILL wonder could there be long term damage to my health..something like venereal disease... the effects, of which, only manifests itself when you're old enough to be on Social Security?
The weather in Chicago sucks! It can never make up it's mind what it wants to do. Cold and snowing one day and 60 degrees the next day. smh. I've lived here my whole life so I'm used to it, but the weather in Chicago has a mind of it's own. I think Mother Nature is drunk. And summer is really hot and humid.
Woodman's in Kenosha is the same size as Jungle Jim's and may have some of the food's you may be looking for since they have so many sq ft of space for all different kinds of foods. The Kenosha location is the largest of all Woodman's stores. A typical Woodman's in Wisconsin is 200,000 sq Ft. The Kenosha location is 263,000 sq ft. (A typical Tesco Extra is 70,817 sq ft in comparison. A "Tesco Extra" is the largest class of Tesco stores in the UK.) Jungle Jim's may have a more interesting theming hower. Woodman's is designed to be a typical grocery store, but just on a much, much larger scale. You can fit 4 Jewel Osco stores inside of the Kenosha Woodmans. Oh! And you can get all food items tax free here in Wisconsin. Only candy and soda is taxed. (At 5.5% in Kenosha) And all non food items like electronics/shampoo and non food items are taxed at 5.5% as well. Kenosha is 45 miles north of Chicago. Kenosha has Metra service too by the way. (It's the only town that has Metra service outside of the state of Illinois.) However service to Kenosha is a bit more limited than the Waukegan stop. Mainly on weekends. Uber and Lyft are readily available in Kenosha.
Tell the Aussie guy that we know Australia well. We appreciate them not going all Tasmania on the indigenous peoples. They aren't hated for genocide, but rather embraced for finding a way to co-exist with the people on their homeland. They weren't perfect guests, but they got it together. Tasmania should NEVER happen.

Why? Why would you abandon land of universal healthcare, non gmo food, month long vacation leave, subsidized education, good beaches (australia), no snow (australia), laid back relaxed environment(australia), long maternity just to name a few and come to the land of corporate greed and gun violence....Why???
"The Americans"...."How do you find the Americans"...Hmmmmm. Ask a New Englander how he finds Southerners or Californians or Midwesterners. Is there really "an American"? Are there things that are a commonality amongst all regions of the country? It would make more sense to ask how do you find city Americans as opposed to rural Americans. A rural person from upstate New York or Maine will be similar in many ways to rural Southerners. On the other hand, someone from Atlanta will have a lot of similarities to someone from New York. Then you have the different races..pretty much all black people are the same in the US unless ones goes to the rural south or west, in which case you may meet a black person that is quite different than the city black people.
whoever filmed this video should evaluate themselves for being color blind. The color settings and quality aren't good. It's like looking through the eyes of a color blind person who can't see reds and greens.

We don't have the wild and crazy world of TEA here. Most Americans would not know that though. The selections in London may be unsurpassed in the world.
What is australian food????
Vegemite and kangaroo steak
The Aussie sounds more American than Aussie.🤔
I say one of his parents is American or he was born there
I'm appreciating your 12th doctor's coat
I admit it: I am a loud eater! Ha, ha! Nice video, guys. I subscribed. BTW, how can you tell an Australian from a New Zealander by listening to them talk? I do admit we Americans are loudmouthed and are braggarts!
How do I find Americans? I step out the door and there they are!
Just one question. No native American in his right mind would willingly move from somewhere in Indiana (or anywhere else in the US) to Chicago unless their employer paid an enormous salary and required the move, or maybe the wife/significant other wanted to go home (to ChiTown). So, why are you there?
his Aussie accent isn't too far off from the Boston upper crust elite accent
I did business in Australia for about 10 years. On my first visit my customers presented me with a Vegemite sandwich which they DEMANDED I eat. I thought: "Geez...they wouldn't put crank case oil on a piece of bread and have it kill me...would they?" But...of course..the "customer is always right" so I ate it. I think it WAS crank case oil...and if it wasn't I'm guessing it TASTED like crank case oil. Well...it didn't kill me...but I STILL wonder could there be long term damage to my health..something like venereal disease... the effects, of which, only manifests itself when you're old enough to be on Social Security?
them's fightin' words! :) Vegemite is sacred to us!
What's the deal with the whistles?
They say we Americans are LOUD and got no class, youse guys are civilized.
Never met an Australian I didn't like
You need to get out more!
Loretta Knoelk
Never met anyone that didn’t thoroughly enjoy their visit there.
Canadian?
koala and kangaroo meatballs are available in LA
Aussie and Brit accents sound different to me. It's hard to give a reason why.
Why not because they're completely different?
James Stockwin They're not completely different.
Jon Alberts they are.
Donna Rainford They're not completely different.
Jon Alberts THEY ARE.
I'm American
The weather in Chicago sucks! It can never make up it's mind what it wants to do. Cold and snowing one day and 60 degrees the next day. smh. I've lived here my whole life so I'm used to it, but the weather in Chicago has a mind of it's own. I think Mother Nature is drunk. And summer is really hot and humid.
Just a couple of American guys having a chat in a park.
I love you channel, but do you really get romantic love letters? What does Tara think of that?
Woodman's in Kenosha is the same size as Jungle Jim's and may have some of the food's you may be looking for since they have so many sq ft of space for all different kinds of foods. The Kenosha location is the largest of all Woodman's stores. A typical Woodman's in Wisconsin is 200,000 sq Ft. The Kenosha location is 263,000 sq ft. (A typical Tesco Extra is 70,817 sq ft in comparison. A "Tesco Extra" is the largest class of Tesco stores in the UK.)
Jungle Jim's may have a more interesting theming hower.
Brilliant. Another reason to head to Kenosha! Thank you!
the birds are aggressive!
Q: How do you find the Americans? A: Open the front door. They're all over the place. :)))
We didn't get to hear the other gentleman's opinion of Americans. 8.. (
Darth Vader Breathing
😃
Veggiemite emphasizes the "creature" more than the "comfort"
confused with Canadian accent? lol.
The Australian guy has very little accent. He must’ve been with his American wife for a very long time.
Chicago is a nice place to visit but I sure wouldn't want to live there
Nope lol, awful weather, racial tension and mass shootings
Tell the Aussie guy that we know Australia well. We appreciate them not going all Tasmania on the indigenous peoples. They aren't hated for genocide, but rather embraced for finding a way to co-exist with the people on their homeland. They weren't perfect guests, but they got it together. Tasmania should NEVER happen.
I'm a yank but I HATE Sports !!! HATE Them !!! did I mention that I HATE Sports ??? GRRRRR I HATE SPORTS !!! ...losing my cool....BARK BARK SNORT GRUNT CHIRP MEOW ....chirp...BUUURP ...(spits out feathers) :D
Why?
Why would you abandon land of universal healthcare, non gmo food, month long vacation leave, subsidized education, good beaches (australia), no snow (australia), laid back relaxed environment(australia), long maternity just to name a few and come to the land of corporate greed and gun violence....Why???
Chicago isn’t the best place to see how Americans are.
Do you think that NYC or LA is?
I hate the Cubs.
An aussie and a brit walk out of a bar...
A Brit and an Australian.......this could be the start of a joke, lol.
whoever filmed this video should evaluate themselves for being color blind. The color settings and quality aren't good. It's like looking through the eyes of a color blind person who can't see reds and greens.
I agree. I filmed it, by the way.
I do like the video, just wanted to raise the awareness :)
To be honest, if you've ever been to a midwestern city near the end of winter, everything looks muted and gray anyway.
Chicago is more like UK than it is like America.
PotatoGunsRule You can't stereotype America. It's far too diverse.
Oh man, that one bird call throughout this video is SO ANNOYING. Most birds sound like "tweet tweet" but this one sounds like "TLWHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG!"
