Will Bangladesh be the Next China? A Story of Bangladesh's Economy (2020)

  • Bangladesh was the fastest growing Economy in the Asia Pacific in 2018, reaching an all time high of 8.2%. Such high growth is nothing new though, with the UN projecting it will lose its least developed country status by 2024.
Though Bangladesh isn’t just satisfied with leaving poverty, and nor should it be. It’s set to achieve prosperity. Aiming to become a developed country in the next 20 years. With Goldman Sachs labelling Bangladesh a Next 11 Economy, one of 11 economies set to be the largest in the 21st century, alongside the BRICS.

No, it's not possible because Vietnam ahead of Bangladesh. Basically all eastern Asian developed country assist Vietnam more than Bangladesh for rapid development. Bangladesh has another big problem, that's ease of doing business is not favorable to investors.

Bangladesh is the second highest exporter of Readymade garments after China and this is probably what made it fastest growing economy in South Asia.
I hope they shift their exports and develop other manufacturing sectors as well, and not be just dependent on one source. Bangladesh has got a bright future hope they don't fall in debt trap of China and their governance curb extremism. Maybe a trillion dollar economy around 2040, much ahead from it's coloniser Pakistan.

During Initial stage of development, you can easily hit 8% plus growth rate. It will run for 10 to 15 years. Then stagnation will start. Another country who can offer further cheap labour force will eat up your market.
Almost 166 million population for a small country to feed. Rising sea levels due to global warming will submerge 17% of its land in next 50 years. If they really wanted to become a developed nation, they have to focus more on their environment and population.

The alliance with China 🇨🇳 has also greatly helped Bangladesh 🇧🇩 . Before 2010 , China was the single largest garment maker in the world and Bangladesh was not even on the list . After rise of China’s labour costs many firms in China moved from China to Bangladesh and Bangladesh quickly became the 2nd largest garment maker in the world . This was partly facilitated due to Bangladesh-China agreements . Among other things , China removed all import duties on 98% of Bangladeshi imports which gave it an edge over other nations trying to attract manufacturers leaving China .

It is the export-oriented model in all East Asian countries. The Chinese model is a mix of export-oriented economy with powerful state-owned enterprises. But Chinese model is ever evolving... they are now gearing toward dual-circulation to take advantage of large domestic market. Bangladesh still has a long way to go for creating enough jobs in supporting her urbanization effort. Without powerful SOEs, Bangladesh will have a hard time in upgrading infrastructure. Nevertheless the country is still a bright star in South Asia because her government has better governance.

    1- bengali's hard working nature..
2- bengali's ppl mind their own bussiness, they dont interfere so much in others life n issues..
3- They keep themselves far away from fights and tensions..
4- Very open minded and self dependent..
5- They dont think so much abt status, they jst do in whatever they are comfortable and what is profitable for them..
These are the points i hv noticed frm one of my bengali frnd, i hv spent 2 yrs with him..And in this 2 yrs he hv never askd even abt my father profession😂😂😂..and on other side i always used to very curious to know almost everything abt him n his family..cos i am frm Bihar..😂😂😂😂😂😂

    • @ndrzmn
      @ndrzmn 3 года назад +12

Agreed. Bangladesh should join ASEAN RCEP. Not only it will help country's growing economy, it will create close relationship with these nations. Bangladesh must not want to commit to any military alliance but should explore the opportunity in economic alliances. RCEP will open the door for FDI from these nations in Bangladeshi economic zones. Bangladesh should grow 10-12 percent annually not 7-8 percent. With less corruption and business friendly market economy, Bangladesh can achieve these growth figures until its per capita GDP hits about USD 8K.

I have realized the matra for most poor or developing countries to prosper is to have a single party govt for some decade - be it in Bangladesh, Vietnam, South Korea,
Taiwan, or Singapore. That would provide the stability, and rapid development in poor countries. You can opt for democracy after your country is semi or fully developed, and the systems are in place, else it would only be chaos & mess like most democratic poor countries today.

The country is only underdeveloped due to poor political influence, as in poorly designed streets and housing. This country has the ability to grow but it doesn’t due to narrow minded people. They stick to their norms, which is very painful to see. They don’t even bother painting the buildings which can easily be done. Call it laziness. Due to poor paint job the buildings look ugly. They don’t feel the need to make the country look presentable. They don’t even have rubbish bins on streets. It’s 2021 and the country is filled with dark and gloomy apartments, not enough space for children to grow, or places for adult entertainment and activities. Extremely unhealthy air quality for children to grow. All they have is thousands of restaurants and buildings. They continue to box people in congested buildings instead of spreading outside of Dhaka. Dhaka only has hundreds of restaurants and shopping malls. I don’t understand why other cities are still so underdeveloped. The country itself has so many investors, yet they’re clueless! One or two good looking houses won’t make the country look presentable. There’s got to be good streets, traffic system, and transportation. Instead of supporting the poor the government IGNORES the poor population which is very hypocritical because they claim they’re Muslim. Muslims should be giving, not hypocrites. There are many rich people who live in Bangladesh, but because they don’t support the poor the country remains at loss 😔
