  • HAM Radio Tutorial: How can a relay be tested sitting in the low pass filter or elsewhere in the circuit with RF frequencies
    Inspired by Paul's video on testing a relay. Watch this video by Mr Carlson's Lab: • Testing a Relay
    Additional you can watch my earlier Video on troubleshooting a low pass filter in a HAM radio:

    Wow! Very eye-opening video, Peter. Yes, I realize you made this video over seven years ago, but I am just now watching it for the first time and I cannot believe my eyes. I will make sure to do the test the next time I come across an intermittent relay in a low pass filter section. For now, I will continue to binge watch all of your past videos one-by-one until I’m caught up to the current one. I am learning so much from you, and each one of these videos reveals something new to teach me about troubleshooting. Thank you so much for these videos and the time you take to go through and explain in great detail. Keep up the great work.

    Last month I repaired a ICOM 738 with Filter Board fault ! I changed all relays, didn't work as I wanted. Great video and great information. Thanks Peter.

      Pasquale IW0HEX Hi Pasquale, yeah this relays can really give you a hard time. If you have seen my earlier video on troubleshooting a low pass filter you see that I was not sure on what is really the problem. I had a lot of dry solder joints on the PCB and on the other hand the relays were very suspect to me. In this case it is good to simply take out the relays test them and start your troubleshooting from that point. I guess that is the same with your repair, you never be sure...

    Thanks again for the video. I had assumed that if a relay was switching on and off it was working. However I can see now that this may not be the case. Very informative as usual.

      technos123 Yeah, it is really tricky with relays they Switch but don't work. Tanks for Feed-back.

      Grant Fullen Hi Grant, yeah there is nothing in the technical literature about it at least in the German but this relays can really give you a hard time. Thanks for feed back 73!

      Justin Shears Hi Justin, thanks for your feed back! You are right, the cut is not perfect, hope to get my new program better under control to reduce the overlapping.

    Can I use a 3V 2A relay to switch a small 3V FM transmitter? I tried this but the contacts of the relay cannot stay closed. It fails and keeps clicking (fails then reconnects then fails again then connects. This keeps repeating.

    Hello
    I run the output from function gen direct to relay coil and connected my huntron it works perfect,, what are you doing you run gen output to what? then relay is that a amp on your breadboard ? thanks for all the time spending on videos

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  9 лет назад

      ***** Hi Dennis, wow your generator must have a very hight output voltage. On my bread board is a op amp to increase voltage and a Mos-Fet to operate the relay. But anyway great that the circuit works for you!

    By your point of view..why they don't use a kind of relay that can be clean opening the cover with a good spray cleaner !? we know that the relay have a large number "mechanical switch" before dying also. '73.

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Alessandro, it is proved that a completely sealed relay can handle many more switching events then a "normal" relay so it really makes sense. On the other hand even if you would have access to the contacts the change to get a worn out contact back working by cleaning is very limited by experience. Thanks for question 73
