I thought it would be a straight jazz concert but it was so much more- old school R&B, Soul and neo soul too. We had a great time! I don't wear pants to church either. I would feel like I'm disrespecting God/the Church/Holy Ground to do so. I never want to get to the place where I have no regard for the sacredness of the Church; whereas I treat the Church as if it's not a special place; as if I'm walking into the Church as if it's just like anywhere else. Hence, if I can dress up to go to special events, court, or other places, I can and will dress up to go to Church in reference and deference to God. I don't even wear sleeveless, or spaghetti-strap dresses to church. I'm pretty much always covered. As my mom says, she doesn't want to see our skin when we're dressed-ESPECIALLY no cleavage!
As a matter of fact, I love dressing modestly and conservatively. Modesty is classy and feminine.
So many people misconstrue and misinterpret God's invitation for us to "come as we are" to church. If a person has nothing else to wear, but the clothes on their back, party clothes, etc., of course, they're welcome in the church. At that point, most churches will give/buy them modest apparel; and give them lap scarves, shawls, etc. Further, their wardrobes/attire will naturally change as they grow in Christ. They will no longer feel comfortable wearing certain things to church and will purchase the appropriate clothing if they can.
Sadly enough, many pastors don't teach Christian lifestyle, or even sin for that matter-not even in Bible Class because they don't want to "offend" people, or make them feel uncomfortable, which may cause them to not give money to the church. They indirectly make people feel as if they can buy their way into Heaven; that nothing about them, their lifestyles, or their hearts have to change to have a relationship with Christ and make it into Heaven. Hence, there's no conviction.
Although the Bible mandates that we study to show ourselves approved so that we can rightly divide the Word of Truth, God has ordained pastors/ministers to teach he unadulterated Word of God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. All pathways to the Word are reinforcement of the Word. Hence, a babe in Christ wouldn't initially know to dress modestly when attending church if he/she hasn't been taught this.
Speaking of Gospel singers, people have to be very careful following many of them in this day and time, especially when they're going around saying, "Church is whack," which is not appropriate in ANY context; listening and dancing to secular music is fine, since God created it; that it's ALL God's music; purporting to be holy, but joining sororities/fraternities at the same time (double-mindedness); being/speaking in a very secular/worldly manner; wearing form-fitting clothes to be sexy and seduce, etc. It's as if singing gospel music is just a job and way to make money for them, and when they're done, they return to their worldly lifestyles, worldly speaking and worldly ways. It's as if they have no anointing, or Godly spirituality; that everything about them is a facade and public persona. I feel sorry for the many people who follow behind them without knowing God for themselves. It's a sad situation.
Aaaaamen! We should have Godly pastors that teach holiness in its daily lifestyle capacity. Unfortunately we have many Christians naming the name of Christ and not heeding to the prompting, cautioning and leading of the holy spirit. Help us Lord 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

It's sad and scary to see what's going on in many of our churches today. They've become so securalized. When Christians feel uncomfortable being in/at their churches because of what is going on and/or what is being taught, or not taught, there's a serious problem.
When we were growing up, there was constant reinforcement of the Word. Our Sundays were primarily dedicated to God, based on service: We attended Sunday School; regular service; and on many occasions, afternoon/evening service-especially when we visited/fellowshipped with other churches. We went to Youth Bible Class/Bible Class on Wednesdays; choir rehearsal on Thursdays; charm and etiquette classes, play rehearsals, etc., sometimes on Saturdays; and Vacation Bible School during the summer. We also went to revivals sometimes throughput the week when they were held. In my family, we would also have family devotions/Bible Study with my parents.
Many churches in Detroit have cut out Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and Youth Bible Class. (Even when some churches try to have Vacation Bible School, they charge a huge and unaffordable fee; it's no longer free because it's all about making money now. Many churches have become certifiable marketplaces, Greed has overtaken holiness in many churches). The absence of all of these Christian education programs/opportunities affect Christian education and foundation building for young people, which ultimately affects their relationship with God if they don't take it upon themselves to learn/study the Word, which most people don't. This leads to people who have a lack of knowledge and end up falling into the ways, thoughts and lifestyles of the world-which leads to eternal damnation.
At this point, all we can do is pray; continue to minister and teach the Word of God; and just watch God deal with and handle the rest.
