12:20 the note on the card says discard action deck card to use as ammo. That’s the ammo for the card. Do NOT discard them! They are super powerful.
All other expansion prepping cards I completely agree. I think they designed it for Kickstarter where people would inherently be buying expansion packages with the base game.

Thanks for sharing. Great video. You explained a lot and did so very clearly.
HZD is my favorite Playstation game, so I backed the KS for the board game and got everything! The video game is an adventure (campaign) game. A subset of the main game is hunting lodges were you hunt the 'mechs' in an area and try to complete certain kills within a time limit. You can completely skip the hunting lodge aspect and complete the campaign. The board game is based on the hunting lodge aspect.
I must say, from the very start I was hoping that the board game would have a campaign element, although it was stated that game play would be based on hunting lodge aspect. Due to a missing campaign and the lackluster game play and flaws, which you mentioned, I have never played my copy. But, hey, it does have amazing minis and they are worthy of painting.
As you mentioned, hopefully they will come out with an expansion that makes the game more than it is. Some new cards, new 'mechs', and a campaign would take the game to a higher level.
With me, I am blessed to have other games available to play, so I don't know if I'll have the time to play HZD as it currently plays.

Thank you for watching and your detailed comments. I understand there are quite a few expansions for more enemies and quarries but not sure how they change a particular encounter deck, or if they introduce assests/enemies to make redundant abilities in the base game usable.
Better use of terrain would be very welcome but I'm currently reluctant to but more expansions unless I can review what is in them.

@@NinjaGeekGames I understand your reluctance about getting any more expansions, beyond the Thunderjaw. There were a lot of different 'mechs' in the video game and there are 4? expansions that bring more 'mechs' to the board game. Sorry, but I don't know if they address the issues you mentioned.

With regard to the Rattler weapons: I think you might be misunderstanding them. First of all, they don't take up your weapon slot (notice how they have a half circle at the bottom, indicating they sit above your hunter, instead of to the left). Second: you don't need ammunition for it. It has an ability which allows you to discard from the top of your deck instead of using ammunition.
I personally absolutely love this game. It's super fun. However I do agree that it can become repetitive. The expansions (of which there are quite a few) do help with that. There are some (like the Thunderjaw you mentioned) that add a new big quarry, but there are also a couple that add multiple new enemies to use during the entire quest. These also add new hunters (2 each) that have unique play styles, increasing replayability even further.
However, even though I absolutely love the game, I have to say that the balance isn't great. For example when playing semi-coop, you get glory points to compete. However, there is one hunter (the Oseram in the base game) that can get insane amounts of them, making that one pretty much guaranteed to always win. Besides that, I've found the enemies to be a bit too easy (at least the base level enemies, the bosses (especially the big ones from the expansions) have a good difficulty in my opinion). Even with just 1 hunter I never really have much problem dealing with them. I might try going for the 3-4 player side of the encounters to make it more challenging.

Is that correct regarding the Rattler? I searched forums and appears to agree with what I said, I may contact SFG and ask. Have you house ruled anything to mae the game tougher such as increasing enemies or health?

@@NinjaGeekGames I think it's correct. If you look at the Rattler card you show in this video, it has the half circle at the bottom, indicating it should be placed above your hunter, instead of the regular weapon slots, which have the half circles at the left and right. As for the not needing ammo, that's what the text on the card says.
I haven't house ruled anything yet, but I might try some things in the future. I have some more expansions incoming, so I'll first play through those regularly though.

Love the IP, but I wouldn't touch this implementation for anything. With the glaing flaws, lack of care, terrible gameplay and outright broken balance, this is just a horrible exploitation of the computer game which -was- made with meticulous attention and respect for its players.
