@Jamal Vines kd and klay were hurt first of all...2nd the raptors were the best team in the east before Kawhi got there with Derozan...they had a great record when he was load managing and they are still top 3 in the east without him while having injuries to their key players throughout the year.
Even when golden state was dominating everyone they were not JUST shooting 3's...they had a great mid range game as well, with a 7 footer that could take u off the dribble, post, and pull up from anywhere...no 7 footers existed with those skill sets back then
He played his entire career on bad knees. Has small hands for a big guy. Still worked amongst his peers. He was a shot away from the championship and a uncalled foul against the Bulls. A missed layup against the Pacer. Was in the losing end on that Villanova improbable victory. Underappreciated and snake bitten. I wish he had won at least one ring.
League favored bulls in those series. I believe knicks wouldve won one of the championships had the refs called all games fair. Bulls wouldve won most but one year (i forget what year) i was very disappointed in the officiating. No, im not a knicks fan either although i did respect them
rob feld league never favoured bulls. there where people in the league and media that wanted Jordan to lose but Jordan would never let that happen.there where teams that had better all round teams than the bulls and had better regular season stats in terms of wins and losses the only thing that made you think bulls could win was the fact that they had Jordan and Jordan would and did come up big in clutch moments.look at all these great players from the 90s and some of them retired with no rings because of Jordan

@@stormteam3004 I don't agree although the Knicks pushed the Bulls to game seven every year they played Michael Jordan and the Bulls in the playoffs none of those game seven did the Knicks come close to winning. Michael Jordan always played like the greatest in game seven. But Patrick Ewing was dominant against the Bulls there was no one on the Bulls team that could guard Ewing.
He did beat Hakeem for his ring in college.

It seems like its part mentality and part analytics that have taken away the big man.

1992-96 .....the greatest 4 year stretch of Center play in NBA history and Ewing was a big part of that era.

Kareem did have counters. If you cut him off, he had lots of counters to get back to the skyhook.
Kareem is the king of counters. That's why he pivot so much. Coz he chooses from all the shots that he knows based on what shots the opponent is taking away and what shot is available to him.

Ewing would be a 35 and 15 guy now. He used to shoot from 18, so he’d step back a couple more feet, and also dominate from inside since bigs have no clue what a post move is anymore.

That's exactly it. Embiid should just do it when Simmons is in the game. Remember to get away from it when Simmons isnt.
Embiid can be lazy too. It's easier to chuck than work down low.

Without a doubt, the last time, when the 76ers beat The Lakers, Joe L&B was questioned by one of the commentators I believe about Ben Simmons and what he was doing at the time, and everybody had to see it he wanted to make comments about Ben Simmons lack of shooting outside. Because he's a teammate he didn't want to create anything that was publicized but it's a fact skip. If Ben Simmons being the so-called Superstar getting paid a lot of money was to add a perimeter shooting to his game Sixers we have a better chance and Joel embiid should continue performing and being dominant in the paint, thus shooting less three-pointers

I quit RUclips I started watching NBA in the 80s, so to me, Ewing is my guy in the Knicks.

cole council People need to realize that Ewing has never played with an All Star or HOF throughout his career, he carried the Knicks all by himself and was always killed by MJ’s Bulls and pushed the Rockets to game 7 in the 94 Finals.
He is very underrated when being criticized he didn’t win a ring.

Patrick was and still is my favorite player to ever play the game. I watched and followed him his whole career from his rookie season to his final years with the Orlando magic....what hurt Patrick throughout his career is that he never had an quality all star player to play second fiddle to him during his prime. The other problem is that after he hurt his Achilles he rushed back too soon to help the knicks in the playoffs and was never the same afterwards....he lost his lateral movement and quickness....he was old school and put team first...greatest Knick ever...
He's right. Centers like Ewing are a anachronism of when the NBA was still a team sport. No one believes in assists or a solid defensive game inside the key. Everyone one wants be the next superstar. The concept of five distinct positions on the court that have a role to play is gone. Now it's just five guys trying win the game by themselves.
Well, there are some players that try to play a clear role, such as Paul and Adams, and still some players that are willing to adopt a single role for their team, such as Drummond. I think we haven't really seen the best of Adams because of the habits he developed supporting Westbrook... both of them appear to be improving again now.
That’s not true at all. Today’s game has way more ball movement and way more teamwork. The 90s/early 2000s was largely one man shows which led to serious low scoring games and Patrick Ewing’s Knicks were certainly a part of.
Read up on “Ewing’s theory” because apparently the Knicks were playing better ball when he was out.

Too many people fail to understand that stats and data don’t provide context, and those numbers can be manipulated.
All the stats nerds would be calling Russell Westbrook the greatest player of the last 3- 4 years, if they were just looking at the numbers. But those who have watched him play know that is far from the truth.

Sampson Frimpong embid is great player but is footwork is slow at times because he’s to overweight I don’t think he truly take basketball seriously if th court and also Ben Simmons needs to leave those Instagram hoes alone and focus on his basketball.Hes a player that would have dominated in the 90s his style of play is old school.
IMO the decline of the big man came due to David Stern allowing the NBA to play college zone defense. Remember this was done to stop player like Shaq and Iverson who could not be gaurded one on one. Although A.I. wasn't a big, the zone rules were used to stop him as well.
If they remove the zone defense, and bring back the old school illegal defense, the big man will flourish once again.

I remember all the battles with the bulls the pacers the heat the Celtics . We always appreciated all the effort and heart yal had for the city . Sad day to see Charles Oakley ! Kicked out of the garden ! Yal will always be loved in the city brother . I remember the days you use to tell the press you’ll see them Sunday in an elimination game on Friday . Logic Sir new too Bro Born and Raised in Brooklyn. Ewing is my favorite player of all time. When he played my NY Knicks wasn’t the most talented team, minus Ewing but they played tough night in and night out. I miss that by grind now the Knicks are softer than cotton. Knicks will always be my team for life. I will love to witness a championship before I leave this earth, however, I will be happy to see their NY toughness again

It saddens me whenever I watch these old timer interviews. I truly miss those days. Patrick was an unbelievably skilled big. AMAZING!! Back then so much players used their feet to get to their spot. And it was an art form.
I grew up watching NBA in the 90's, where having a star Center is the secret of winning. Players like The Dream, Admiral, Ewing, Shaq, Zo, Mutombo, etc have teams built around them. I miss those days.

Patrick is, was and always will be my favorite NBA and college player of all time. I started watching him as a rookie at Georgetown and watched as many games as I could until he retired. I just loved his balance of power, grit and finesse he had. I still say he is the best shooting center of all time. His jumper was nasty. Watch some highlights of him...a true warrior too.

I was in love with his kind of play , intimidating all his oponents , wearing all this white protection thins in his knees and hands !!!! I miss watching those early to mid-90’s Knicks teams. They were brutal on their opponents. When they lost to Houston, when Starks shot made 2 shots out of 18, I literally cried.

Love Patrick ... always was my favorite player growing up in 80s and 90s, and from a small town in Indiana I believe I am almost unique in that. I began playing ball as a guard, then shot up in height so coaches would always then play me at center. I kept that jump shot around more than the post play, so I always saw Patrick as kinda my inspiration as a jump shooting center. Man those early 90s Knicks teams were great to watch.

It's more than a cycle the NBA needs several rule changes. They need to get rid of zone defenses, bring back hand checking and possibly get rid of the three point shot. It has diminished the game into a game of horse. The post was where excitement was created. LeBron and Steph really have destroyed the NBA.

It wasn't LeBron who ruined the game. It was those Kobe-era Celtics who changed the game for the worse. They began the LeBron superteam-era where teams take the best 3&D in the game and put them on the same squad next to a dominant Forward.

Most people don't truly understand why basketball is the way it is.
The low post has been eradicated because of the zone defense rule. When you allow some defense it's very difficult to post up without dribbling yourself into the post. Players like Patrick Ewing used to be able to run to the low block and have one-on-one isolation until he caught the basketball. Once they eliminated that as part of the game by introducing the zone defense well you could double team a player without the basketball which makes it very difficult to post up. Forcing players to start their offense further from the basket. This is also a big reason why the lane is always wide open in today's basketball leading to inflated scoring numbers.
