Itlong na pula or maalat (salted egg) is normally mixed in with a vegetable dish like tomatoes and onions. It is also used in bibingka. The best salted has an oily yolk. You can make salted egg by putting egg in a mud and salt mixture for about 3 weeks or even just salted water. Century eggs are similarly made but with a different mixture and for 100 days. That's why century. Like balut, salted eggs are duck eggs. They are usually made fr the duck eggs that were not fertilized and cannot become balut :)

So nice of you to visit Susie again and to meet Jonathan. Nice floating restaurant.
Sounds like land is more expensive in Susie’s area than in Davao or Mindanao. Another vlogger, Boris, with his Filipina wife, Darlene (called Island Life) who live north of Davao bought 2 lots and it sounded like they got a great price. Hope you can visit the couple.
Salted egg is commonly eaten in Asia. I’ve had Indonesian, Thai, Malaysian, and Chinese dishes with salted duck egg. The Filipino store in my area sells rice cake (puto and bibingka) with salted egg topping. You can also add a little bit of the salted egg in salad (like feta cheese in Mediterranean salad).
Safe travels in Luzon. Take care and God bless. 🥰

Hi Jelena. Salted Egg(itlog na pula/ itlog na maalat) is also added to something sweet like Bibingka(Rice Cake) or Inseymada(Brioche). Also, can be eaten with Pandesal (Bread) for breakfast. The saltiness of the egg goes very well with the sweetness of the baked goods.
