Full disclosure. I still collect. But I don't tune into the RUclips scene as much these days. (Married life lol) but when I do, I'm glad to see that you are still at this game Shartimus! I hope you go on for as long as you can, it is always a comfort to visit your channel! Much love to you and your beautiful family!
As far as articulation goes. In the neck the typical neck hinge is better on marvel legends, on pretty much every other line the double ball peg neck is better. As far as torsos go I personally think the upper diaphragm joint with a lower crunch is hideous. A ball jointed waist is much better, especially on a character that wears a belt or who has non tights pants like luke cage. If there was no lower crunch at all then a well done double ball peg diaphragm would be the best articulation for a torso.
The hinge isn’t better tho. If the double ball peg was done well it would easily be better than the neck hinge. Marvel legends just don’t want to make good figures.
Only reason a disc hinge functions better than the double ball Peg neck is because Hasbro doesn't know how to make a proper double ball Peg for some reason, when done right it has so much more range of movement.
Exactly idk why Hasbro sucks at making articulation like i know i said this but they're the number 1 toy company why the hell can't they figure out their articulation yetis beyond me
No Shart, I disagree. A neck hinge ain’t better. A WELL DONE double ball joint is ALWAYS better. The issue with how Hasbro does it, is that the lower ball sits way, waaay too low on the neck. The rod connecting them should be shorter, and allow for both balls to rotate so the head moves with complete freedom. A hinge only allows for unnatural, vertical movement, and breaks the sculpt horribly.
Hinge joints in the neck suck. But unfortunately, the Hasbro ML team has no idea how to engineer articulation and can’t do a double-ball peg for crap. It’s not just import companies that do good ball necks, Jada, DST, Neca, McFarlane all do great-good enough double-balls for neck joints. I swear, the ML team had never handled an action figure outside of their own line or their childhood.
You might not like his approach or sarcasm, but he’s just plain right when it comes to quality issues that could be avoided and articulation and proportions stuff which could be -so much better- without costing Hasbro or us a single more penny, as it’s about stuff which can be improved before production. It just does not make sense, that the largest toy company in the world misfires so often. And yes, I collect this and other lines, like several figures a lot, I’m able to enjoy them even when I know this and/or that could be better, etc. In the end: Don’t we want the best bang for our buck? That’s what reviews are for.
I really like how Marvel Legends have improved their new figure bodies, it's a very impresive step forward, they have incredible articulation and now they look more "clean" they now look like a much more expensive figure. This Wolverine looks awesome, the boot swivel should have been added though, and that would have made the tight cut a little bit redundant, but the cut in the boot would have been better. I just ordered it a few days ago, i can't wait to have it in my collection, this is going to be my second Marvel legend after she Hulk with damaged clothes
Personally I prefer the diaphragm joint waist crunch combo, it just looks better in my opinion. The lack of calf/boot swivel is ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE! If they added a foot swivel like the Netflix Daredevil, that would have been a good remedy but nope! Now I'm gonna have to fenegal the ankle pivot and thigh swivel like crazy every time I want to get him in a dynamic pose. 3 sets of hands and 2 heads should be the standard for the amount of accessories that come with a legend and this figure proves that it can be done. All in all, I do think this is the best Comic Marvel Legends Wolverine, and I hope to see them use an improved version of this mold for a tiger stripe, brown suit, and X-Force Wolverine.
The Astonishing Wolverine figure looks sick!!! I know I have the X-Men 97 Wolverine figure and I still need to collect more of the X-Men 97 figures. I need more Marvel Legends.
Ngl this is frustrating, this Wolverine was so close to being perfect, I called it back a few months ago that they will implement the diaphragm joint on the Wolverine figures at some point. One step forward two steps back because they take away the boot rotation and his cowl. Same thing with the Superior Spider-Man could have stuck with the awesome Spidey mold instead they go with an older lamer mold. Don't get me wrong this is probably one of the best Wolverine figures tbh, I think this one and the X-Men '97 are some of the best Wolverine figures to date. If they could make the brown suit Wolverine a combination of both it would probably be the best Wolverine figure ever, sheesh throw in some toe articulation too!
@vicdamon3551 I don't care about getting those right now. I specifically was saying I wanted 2 of this astonishing style costume because he looked similar to this on the avengers too.
I disagree that disc hinges are better. Ball joints are far superior. You get far more range of movement. But hasbro is notorious for not being able to do a proper ball joint
Astonishing Wolverine is my favorite look for Wolverine. 97 Wolverine comes in very close second place especially after watching the show. I’m still excited for this figure. Still waiting on it from BBTS. Also thank you, Shart, for doing the head swap with the new Cowboy Logan.
Random comment, but I just realised today that the arms on the tiger striped Wolverine figures are actually different from most other Wolverine arms. They’re entirely new and some of the only ones to have the arm hair sculpted on. Was watching old Shartimus videos to check, and realised he never mentioned it! So all these years, hasbro hasn’t been re using exactly the same Wolverine body 😂
I was playing with the "super articulated" Black Widow and the Elektra Dare Devil and for real the boot swivel really makes a huge difference while doing some poses. Looks like the cracks and the paint under the shoulders seems to be a common ocurrence with this figure sadly.
I'll forever praise Whedon for getting the X-men back in costume and out of their creepy leather phases but this isn't at all my team. I'm happy for folks who are into it and am excited to see an upgraded version in Byrne Brown.
Yes! Ive been waiting for YOUR review of Astonishing Wolverine. I believe the best mid-section articulation is the GI Joe Classified set-up. Diaphragm at the waist, with the crunch up top. The current set up with Legends isn't bad but makes waist movements awkward. Also hasbro just doesn't know how to do dumbell necks. They do work, Hasbro just hasn't figured it out. Its only been 4 years 🤣 The lack of boot rotation is unacceptable. I've been waiting for a modern legends update of Astonishing for friggin years and they finally deliver but skimp on yhe boot rotation!!! Bah Oooh that comparison next to the ToyBiz Astonishing really hits me in the nostalgia. Astonishing wolverine is my childhood. And wolverine and Spider-Man are members of the New Avengers good times..
The ball jointed neck sucks is because hasbro dont know how to make a proper neck like Jada did. A good ball jointed neck show so much more emotion in a character as they can tilt their head, which a hinge joint could never do. And a well made ball jointed diaphragm and waist joint is 100% better than hinge joint. Once again Hasbro, just copy the jada stuff already. They have the BEST articulation on an action figure that are below $25, or even above honestly.
I think to myself if I do need another Wolverine figure but I guess I need this so very fun and new looking Astonishing X-MEN Wolverine action figure because he has those awesome head sculpts along with those very badass claws which I think more comic Wolverine figures could use, Great review overall on him Shartimus.
Yes! Make a video on what you think is the best articulation scheme! There is a bit of debate especially on legends. Like me i think this diaphram and an crunch combo isnt as great as people think. The ab crunch and waist swivel is more functional. But what would have made this better is the ab crunch being the top and a ball joint being at the waist. Would be more effective.
Thanks for the head swap! Yellows look to be close enough but not an exact match. I do think the blues on the new one should’ve been just a tad darker but overall I like this Wolverine.
Just got mine today...the neck joint really bums me out more than the boot cuts. I think the arms are completely different from 97 Wolvie too. Definitely pros and cons to both body types.
This probably is the best ML Wolverine ever, but I've already swapped out this character with updated ones more than once, and Krakoan brown suit Wolverine has grown on me. I'll probably stick with that, unless Mafex reissues their brown suit figure.
After thinking a lot about this figure and messing around with it I think the only issue in my opinion is the calf swivel hasbro shouldn’t have missed that other then that the figure is fresh the ball peg at the neck you could work with that so it’s not a big issue. For 30 dollars I think it’s worth it
Mine is arriving tomorrow and I’m hella excited! Could easily use this as a Deadpool & Wolverine stand in until we get the official movie version, but still unsure if I’ll wanna get it since this one is too good!
Double ball pegs is by far the best option. Problem is, hasbro has no idea how to do it correctly. You're not going to get good range of motion, sinking your ball pegs 1/4 inch deep. But, there are plenty of examples of double ball pegs being superior to disc hinges. Disc hinges are great for someone who flys and needs to look uo really far, otherwise, there pretty meh and give zero nuanced posing ability. Sik
a double ball for the neck is factually, objectivelly the best system. There's nothing to agree or disagree. Hasbro's shit, ancient disc that nobody uses is certainly not preferable. The only use for it to look up to an absurd degree, but be shit at literally every other movement. Why would anyone want that ? Then we have to suffer once again hasbros fucking ab crunches, from 25 years ago. That nobody else uses on the entire market. Jesus christ. At least we have a ball at the chest this time so we can til a bit
I think you might be onto something with the colors being a bit too bright and the lack of shading. He’s a little too “bright” for me. It’s obvious that Hasbro put a lot of effort into this one, but I just don’t feel compelled to buy it.
Not sure if anyone else has seen it on their fig but if you pull the claws down you can remove them! Great for scenes! They’re almost on a small joint I think I’m not sure give it another look!
I’m hoping Hasbro will eventually do the ball jointed waist and diaphragm joint combo as that offers the best poseability for torsos. It would allow for so many better wolverine poses.
No shin articulation is done on purpose. This way, hasbro will make u buy this figure and in a year or so they will update the buck again with shin articulation and make another round of profit. Companies don't give u the best of a particular product at a time. They will trickle bit by bit so they milk as much $$$ as possible.
Honestly Double ball peg for head and single ball peg for the neck and Double ball peg for torso and single ball ball joint for the waist is the most effective articulation setup but unfortunately Hasbro doesn't know how to properly incorporate those joints
That Toybiz Wolverine, LOL. I'm always baffled when people try to say first wave Marvel Legends figures are better than what we have today, haha. Those toys are hot garbage.
Im more of a fan the classic suit, but this one is really good, i personally don't need another Wolverine, but this one ITS REALLY GOOD. Too bad it doesn't have boot rotation.
I wish Hasbro would put more thought into their figure releases. The heat claw wolverine uses the astonishing costume with slightly different color shading. Why not include regular claws for the previous release or simply wait and include heat claws with this release? We're talking about two slightly different figures released within a 2 year time span.
I really wish & hope they give us all the characters from the TV show wolverine and the X-Men which is basically the astonishing X-Men and my favorite x men tv show right behind x men 97 and so far we got Angel, wolverine and Emma Frost and cyclops
To me, ab crunches are so unforgivably ugly that they ruin the figure. Ten years ago I used to completely disregard Marvel Legends because they were all so ugly, cheap and samey looking. It didn't matter how articulated they were if the figure didn't look good to begin with. This is the first yellow suited Wolverine that they've done that I actually like enough to want to own. Sculpted details, generally good proportioning, articulation that isn't ugly, actually resembles the source material. I still think most of what Hasbro puts out isn't good, but then they come out with stuff like this, movie Venom and Carnage, FFH Final Suit Spidey, Doctor Doom, Tombstone, Power Princess, etc where they look like they were made by a completely different company - one that actually makes good figures.
But even Hasbro's best Marvel Legends still fall short compared to most other companies. That's because the standards are so low that anything that it isn't garbage is considered good
@@chewymew I think that's a little bit hyperbolic. Movie Venom is genuinely one of my favorite action figures of the last decade. Most of what the put out isn't good, but I do think there are some that are exceptional even by general standards. It's frustrating because clearly they can do better, it's just rare that they do. As if the people in the production process who actually really care about making the best product they can just sneak one by the higher ups.
But how complex are you gonna get with a wolverine figure it’s not Spider-Man. If it was a Spider-Man figure it would definitely be a huge issue but he’s Wolverine. The 97 night crawler didn’t have a calf swivel that is still a solid poseable figure
To be honest I think it’s completely fine yes of course they shouldn’t have missed the calf swivel but there’s still a whole lot of dynamics poses you can get him in. It’s really about how creative you can get with the figure as is
I don’t care what fanboys say. It’s a bad figure hasblow didn’t even try. It’s head is oversize and his height is inaccurate. Also wtf is up with hinge joint in the neck?😂😂😂
Seems like an upgrade, but no boot joint was odd. So again Hasbro take a step, but then take two steps backward. I never understand that. Team ML is a really messy group.
Theres a plastic inside the boot that hinders itt from spinning and becoming a bootd swivel. Remove the boot. Cut that plastic hindrance and put back the boots on the leg.
Picking this up here for review anyway Even if its plain looking although some of that same issues with the 97 fig Also i will say i prefer these claws Dont see the need to buy from snowman
This is the Wolverine I grew up with, it was on Marvel Backpacks , Coloring Books , and Candy.
Me too and the animated series as well.
Me too! My Thea used to have a chair with all the marvel heroes, and this is the Wolverine that was on it!
He was on my light switch with hulk and spiderman

Hasbro purposely not including the boot rotation. It's ridiculous!

As if the people in the production process who actually really care about making the best product they can just sneak one by the higher ups.

Can we get another upload of an ShartimusPrime & AnthonysCustoms discussion
fun review as always.
will there be a review of the M.L Deadpool Legacy Wolverine?
Must get for me because it looks like such a good one and I don’t have a Wolverine lmao 😂
No boot/ ankle rotation and Hasbro doesn’t make a proper double ball peg for the neck. Could’ve been good
I think an anthonycustoms collab would be great someone who has high standards for hasbro and figures alike definitely want to see what he thinks
Anthony and Shart did a livestream together before, I think it's still on Shart's channel
No boot cut was enough reason to cancel my preorder, yeah.
So use the thigh swivel
@@marvelmdc3130 not enough for more complex poses
But how complex are you gonna get with a wolverine figure it’s not Spider-Man. If it was a Spider-Man figure it would definitely be a huge issue but he’s Wolverine. The 97 night crawler didn’t have a calf swivel that is still a solid poseable figure
@@marvelmdc3130 But this Wolverine has basically the articulation as a Spidey.
To be honest I think it’s completely fine yes of course they shouldn’t have missed the calf swivel but there’s still a whole lot of dynamics poses you can get him in. It’s really about how creative you can get with the figure as is
I'm thinking about kit bashing this figure with the bonebreaker wave wolverine then painting it, what do you think?
This articulation is great. Its similar to hasbro's gi joe figures articulation
Although not really
Although yes really
I don’t care what fanboys say. It’s a bad figure hasblow didn’t even try. It’s head is oversize and his height is inaccurate. Also wtf is up with hinge joint in the neck?😂😂😂
Average brain rot hater😭🙏
I was hoping to see the claws swapped with the Hasbro pulse Logan bloody claws since their the same
Do we know if they’ve confirmed they will add more to the astonishing line?
Seems like an upgrade, but no boot joint was odd. So again Hasbro take a step, but then take two steps backward. I never understand that. Team ML is a really messy group.
No big bad toy store anymore
Theres a plastic inside the boot that hinders itt from spinning and becoming a bootd swivel. Remove the boot. Cut that plastic hindrance and put back the boots on the leg.
the ML team can't design a good neck balljoint, even McFarlane can, is just a rod of plastic in two sockets and they can't understand how to do it
Hasbro doesnt know how to do dumbell neck joints. Its too sunken in and deep thats why its so hindered.
Picking this up here for review anyway
Even if its plain looking although some of that same issues with the 97 fig
Also i will say i prefer these claws
Dont see the need to buy from snowman
I paid about 24 bucks for mine. Although mine doesn't have the speckles on the teeth.
So, Shart, what IS your favorite Wolverine figure in your collection? You didn't say.
They need to redo beast
I keep going back and forth on the figure. The straight flat blue and yellow looks really plasticy/cheap to me.
Not lovin the 5 o’clock shadow on the teeth… at least they’re trying 😅🐌
Oooh and I jus got to the part about the no boot cut. Pass
