    Good job! Here in the Czech republic, cars like this are very common and they are often still in good condition, which is cool with age around 20 years. I like your work, greetings from Czechia :)

      They are very common in Sweden too. :-) Great, reliable, cheap cars. I'm driving a 2006 Fabia with the 1.2 HTP engine and it has not failed the MOT once in its lifetime.

      @@hellion9547 Though reliable and cheap, these cars have a certain reputation here in Czechia... Not sure how many ppl do, but me and my friends call the car a "phobia".
      Mostly because they are driven by old, retired people who seem to be scared to death by anything over 50kph, or bad drivers in general - as many first time drivers pick this car because of its qualities (price+reliability).
      You would think its just a stereotype, but try going anywhere in a smaller city at around 8-11am, when most older people do their shopping.
      But seriously, i dont really hate, im glad that a czech car is serving "common" czech people, and more.

      @@ejoautovideos Nice video, one thing i noticed is the brand of engine oil you used - i use that one exclusively for my 270k+km mk4 golf. Every decent car mechanic recommended to use this brand for older, high-mileage engines. The only difference is that i use 10w40, because it helps a fair bit with oil consumption.

      @@vavra222 That?'s mostly the situation here as well, althouth The later generations of the Fabia has appealed to younger people to. But yeah, MK1 Fabia has The reputation of old people car here. 😄 But never The less, it was a sale success and it along with The octavia really made people think differently about Skoda.

    Those first generation Fabias were too well made for a car of that size, so they are still going strong. That Fabia was one lucky Fabia as it was fixed and detailed so well. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    One big issue with VAG cars of this era is the insanely thick stonechip on the sills, it hides the rust really well. When you notice rust bubbling through it, there is usually nothing left behind the layer of stone chip...

    The rust on front fenders is common problem for Skoda Fabia/Seat Ibiza. That's because dust and mud gets behind plastic arch wheel cover and stuck on the bottom of the inside part of the fender. So if you manage to clean it before it begin to rust, you can save your car (not this sample)

    I have this as "Combi" / wagon with the 75hp 3cylinder Diesel. Wonderfully cheap to run and quick enough to overtake on rural twisty roads. The only huge downside is the deep resonance at about 1200-1600 rpm under high load. Makes me upshift in situations where it would otherwise not be necessary. Rust can be an issue, mine had to be treated at the forward lateral sidebeams and the wheel arch is showing signs of its age. But the car has 220k km on it and the engine should be good for 300k+. It has to be said that it mostly sees longer rides so wear and tear is less than in city use with frequent cold starts.

    Look for older native Gotland cars, which has never been driven on the mainland. Usually called "Gotlandsbil" in ads. Gotland stopped using road salt in the mid 80's so they are usually rust free with only mechanical issues. More satisfying to work with and who knows maybe you want to keep one for yourself too 🙂

    • @ejoautovideos
      @ejoautovideos  2 года назад +1

      Yes, same with cars from far north. 👍

    • @VNAV_PTH
      @VNAV_PTH 2 года назад

      With Norrbotten cars you still can’t know for sure. E4 all the way to the finnish border is infected, and 97 between Boden and Luleå and E10 all the way up to Kiruna too. And during the period with black ice many commuter roads and what not are unfortunately treated with road salt. It really depends up there. I suspect it would be easier to find a true Gotlandsbil than a Norrbottensbil that has not seen road salt in some way or form, especially since salt is mixed with sand in Norbotten which is not the case in Gotland. Salt in the form of Calcium Chloride is also used for treating gravel roads in Norbotten during the summer while not in Gotland since they treat the graven roads with Dustex, which does not contain salt.

    My 20 year old Fabia 100hp 16v saloon still going strong at 72,000 miles.
    Its gone through two sets of ARB bushes, 1 new ARB, 1 replacement Windscreen and a substantial body work repair on the boot and nearside rear wing (Oak tree branch fell on it !), 2 sets of Continental tyres, one set of cam belts and a water pump, the usually problems with sooty EGR valve and a gearbox rebuild (Input shaft seal leakage). And tne cabin headlining has failed in the hotter UK summers (Climate change) and the temperature flap motor for diversion of cabin air ,(Located deeip in the dashboard) has failed leading to an electrical short which rapidly drains the battery when the car is not being used (Too expensive to repair, so remedied by pulling fuse 12). And, like most other UK Fabia imports it developed slight rain water leaks at the door windows, evidenced by slightly damp carpets. The leaks were fixed by the dealer using the prescribed kit.
    No visible rust (my previous VW Golf MK1 developed rust at 16 years old) despite the car being kept, un-garaged, outside in a residents car park when not in use.
    The annual UK goverment vehicle test (MOT) this year identified that it needs a new windscreen (Again ! Minor damage from debris on a motorway).
    The annual service revealed it needs new front suspension bushes (I thought Skoda had re-designed those voided bushes to eliminate the failure ?) and rear suspension bushes and stops (Poor condition of UK roads now and road humps. I'm wondering whether polypropylene bushes, like Powerflex UK produce might be a good long-term answer), a new temperature sensor on the radiator (Common fault - leak), a possible oil leak on the engine sump gasket and the windscreen wipers need attention (Wiper blade arms have rotated on drive spindles).
    Otherwise still going well.
    Because of the high compression ratio 10.3 to 1, I've always run it on high octane fuel.
    It will run on 95 octane but the engine sounds like a bucket of bolts.
    Running it on Optimax fuel (Shell's 98 octane predecessor to V-power ) in combination with short commuting journeys produced a lot of soot in the EGR and engine misfires and juddering.
    Swapping to V-power (99 Octane) and slightly longer motorway runs fixed that issue. On average it achieves 40 miles per gallon.Although V-power cost 10 to 12 pence more a litre than 95 octane, it doesn't break-the-bank as my annual mileage is low
    I am amazed the changes that have ocurred with regard to the engine oil used. Originally the main dealer used castrol GTX 20w- 40, and later an independent garage I used for a short period used VW's own Quantum brand of 10w-40 and now back with the original main dealer, they are are filling with 0w-30 ! I'm told by the dealer mechanics the 0w-30 is recommended. I Presume this has something to do with the progression of VW oil standards from 500.00/502.00 (Per my cars handbook) to 504.00 ? Anyway. I was slightly dubious that such a low viscosity oil would be suitable for such an old car given "Warm" UK winter temperatures, so I have asked Skoda for an official response.
    I noticed that Castrol Magnatec 5w-40 was used in the oil change for this refurbishment.
    So in all my Fabia still going strong and the only thing preventing its future use is the prospect of the emission requirements for petrol cars operating in the London ULEZ being raised in sometime in tne near future from Euro IV to Euro VI🎉

    People saving cars that still can be driven for a few more years are doing more for the environment than new big EVs, all things considered.
    Also a lot of people need cheap rides (less than 2000€) in this depression economy.
    For people who know how to fix cars honestly, there's money to be made & win win deals to be had.

    You probably would have gotten away with cleaning the MAP sensor, throttle body and EGR piping. Replacing the O2 sensor and MAP sensor wasn't needed until proven they are broken. The "implausible" code means that the measurements don't match up which can easily be explained by the EGR being clogged and the dirt on the MAP sensor.

      @ejoautovideos  2 года назад

      Because I decided afterwards to polish the hood and roof. And when I polished I used a 3in1 compound with protection in it. 👍
