In Japan elderly live together in a big house and share cooking and get assistance as well so they are not alone all day and taken care of. I love this.

These couples have not just come together recently, out of necessity. They have known each other for years, have been friends and have had a two-year 'experimental' period of living together in a house that, I bet, wasn't designed as cleverly as this one. They'll be fine. More than fine, in fact. They are getting on with life and have proactively taken the steering wheel into their own hands. All the best to them!

I believe there can be a happy ending for all these six people living together. They are smart sensible people who can do the precautions to prevent it from falling apart.

Living in a sharehouse is so much fun! I'm from Zurich, Switzerland and living in Tokyo, Japan. When I moved to Tokyo I decided to lived in a sharehouse instead of living solitary in an apartment. I instantly gained new friends in a new city. They helped me a LOT to get settled and through them I gained even more new friends. At first I planned to lived there for a maximum of 8 months...and that 8 months stretched into 2 years! Living in a sharehouse is really one of the most fun experience of my life.

Mm. The lady (Eve?) who shoos her friend away in the kitchen, and on camera, then asserts her ownership of the overall shared housing idea…

considering the divorce rate, most ppl can barely find 1 person they can stand to live with, year after year, much less 5 ppl! bravo to them... they do have 4 acres, so this could've been a tri-plex or several cottages. suppose any group of friends could endeavor to all move to the same block or apt bldg & have same network. most ppl just try & make connections w/ whoever's around rather than deliberating this way... isolation, after a busy hectic life can b sweet, w/o just 'withering' though. taking care of a coupla dogs & cats provides company & purpose too. dithering & puttering about in a garden is satisfying as well, esp if they can grow their own grapes & weed

You put up these great videos of people who think out of the box and take their retirement in their own hand only to give such negative feedback!!! People CAN look after themselves! That financial planner is the one stuck in the BOX!

As long as each couple has their own private space, and no one makes a nuisance of themselves.

I really hope that all three of these couples have gone into this situation with their eyes wide open, and have had legal work done on their agreement which will dictate what happens in various situations. For instance, if one couple has to leave very quickly and go into care, is there some provision for getting their money out, or selling their share to the two other couples?

Good luck to them! This just wouldn’t work for most of us. They’re also very well funded.

Agreed!. They've known each other for years and have similar interests and outlooks. To suddenly live with a bunch of people you don't know to avoid being lonely isn't necessarily a good idea.
But different strokes for different folks......

@@woohooboy I moved to Tokyo from Zurich and decided to lived in a sharehouse to avoid being lonely in a completely new city.
I was prepared to feel awkward to live together with a bunch of complete strangers from several countries... and it turned out to be one of the best experience of my life.

The financial planner at the end said things could fall apart if someone dies. But they'd all mourn together for the lost one and the surviving spouse wouldn't suffer alone, so I see more positives in that situation than negatives.

The whole reason to start that community is for the case that some of them get handicapped or die. He did not understand the idea. This is not about money but dignity.

Drop the financial/health fearmongering and it would be a better story. Plenty of smart old people are making good decisions that are outside the mainstream. Long may they live in health!

Death and inheritance will bring it to an end.
I guess then the rest of them could enter a retirement village/ nursing home.
For now they're happy. Thats important.

    • @jacqui9176
      @jacqui9176 7 месяцев назад +1

Perhaps they have made a will that takes all of this into account, no inheritance until they have all passed.

Maybe. I was guessing some of them had children. Inheritance money makes people weird.

This is kind of like the Golden Girls show, except with couples instead of all women like the show , I’ve always love this kind of idea.. but with all women and no men I think maybe would be more fun.. hehe
