It's interesting how his personality completely changes at the end of the film, when he's in disguise he really gives off the feeling of being a normal person and a good person, but when he reveals his real personality he's purely sadistic and aggressive, in my opinion they got his personality really right. Matthew's acting in this movie was great. He can act like a completely normal dude, albeit slightly fruity as Steve Raglan, and he can act like a complete psycho as William Afton.
I love that he pauses when he reads Mike’s full name! It’s such good attention to detail and such clever foreshadowing! Looking at this movie on the outside looking in, you’ll probably not think Steve Raglan is William Afton, but then you realize that Mike’s brother, Garret, is one of the missing kids who Afton murdered. And then you realize that Steve Raglan was William Afton under the guise of a career councillor and you realize that Afton saw Mike’s full name and realized “Oh shit! This is the brother of that boy I murdered! This is perfect!” So, he knew who he was dealing with when he read out that name for the first time! He knew this whole time who Mike was and bided his time to first break Mike, and then kill him! Five nights is all he needed! But he didn’t account for Mike having a sister.
It's cool to see that like in the books, the way he talks and acts changes completely when he puts on Springbonnie, in The Silver Eyes when he was Dave Miller he acted like a normal person but when he puts on Springbonnie he starts acting like a cruel sadist who plays with the situation like in the film, there is a scene in The Silver Eyes that shows this a lot, when he is tied up without Springbonnie's clothes he is completely normal and he asks them to put Springbonnie's mask on him so that he talks, and when they put springbonnie's head on him he goes crazy
That’s how William Afton is just perfect for a serial killer, and a Fnaf villain in general really. He became Dave so no one could trace his identity back to William Afton and be a normal guy again, hence why he behaves like one. When tied up and caught in parts and service he barely speaks or moves and is just completely disconnected to the outside world because there’s so much going on in his head. He realises that they know too much and now he’s stuck, after all this time he believes he’s been caught and he’ll have to finally face the consequences of his actions. Then he puts on the Spingbonnie head, the one that he used to kill and control the kids, the mask of a character he created out of himself. That’s why he talks crazy while wearing it. He feels more powerful with it, and believes he’s in more control again. What’s interesting about this is how he has a secret side to him, that being his true self, the psychotic SpringBonnie and his murderous deeds. He acts as Dave Miller to hide it all, and somehow, he managed to get away with it. For only a decade at least.
Ikr, it seems so small, but it shows how little he values human life. Everyone is just a pawn in his pizza robot infested game of chess and it's perfect
