@@annemariepratt4480 Why is it young people on You Tube are wanting money off people they don't know. If you want to vlog your experience in Sweden do it, but holding out your hand for money is really the bottom. if you get enough views You Tube will pay you.
Hi guys! I'm a Florida girl who has been living in Sweden for 12 years now, going on 13 and my absolute BEST winter tip to you both is to visit the second hand stores any time you are in a town that has one or several. Winter gear is EXPENSIVE but also ubiquitous as everybody has to have it. You will find everything you need and for prices from 60 to 200 crowns for stuff that would cost you thousands new. I once bought an icelandic sheerling coat for 60 crowns at my local second hand store. Now WHY the second hand store is your friend besides price is that you are going to need multiples of things because they WILL get wet and take their sweet time drying. Get yourself some snowpants and if you have a Granngården or maybe even an ICA MAXI not too far away have a look for some 'fodrade gumistövlar' in addition to whatever other winter shoes you end up choosing. Wellies with a warm lining are your friend and will be excellent around the property. I'd also recommend a shoe dryer. You'll find that at Claes Olsson or Jula or maybe even ICA Maxi as well. Wet, cold feet are the worst. Keep an eye out at the second hand stores for some winter work overalls (think auto mechanic onesie style) which will be really great when you need to load more wood or take care of things outdoors around the house. Much warmer as the heat circulates round your whole body. The other must have is some good quality long underwear (top and bottom 'underställe' in Swedish) I also live in a red cottage with CRAP insulation and here's my other piece of advice. Keep an eye out at the second hand store for RUGS and get yourself some nice warm slippers. You will be glad you have them. Best of wishes!
Yes on the coveralls. I have insulated ones that have long zippers so you step into them boots on. Also some days they are too warm while working and the zippers act as vents. I've had mine for 15 years. Very durable.
Hi Both, If you only plan to be here for one year (Therefore just one winter) I have an absolute load of winter gear (Including boots) That I can probably loan you. I'm normally running a full season of extreme cold weather survival courses here in the North of Sweden, but the Corona situation means this particular winter season is unusually quiet, and therefore all my course equipment is just sat in storage. I'd gladly rather to put it to good use and let you access it for the winter, saving you some money in the process and also being environmentally sensitive along the way (better to recycle/upcycle than buy new) Just drop me a note if this idea is of use/interest. I'm only a couple of hours down the road from you, but also easy to meet up in Skellefteå and bring a bunch of gear with me for you to try on.
@@averyj5446 of course, you can see some course details here: hellonature.se/ and I'm in the process of updating my website, so more course details soon to be shown here: www.nature-immersion-center.com/ that site also contains my contact details, so feel free to reach out if you're looking for something specific as I do a lot of private, bespoke courses as well as public facing...
Jack is a hard working young man. The garage he completed was so much work that I was Exhausted from watching, and now the foundation wall. Great job you two.
A must for all car owners up here are that the car must have electrical heating of the motor + the passenger compartment. Its normal for cars sold here in Sweden that they are delivered with the heaters installed. I don know how it is with your GB-registered Volvo, but I highly recommend you to install a "blockvärmare" or "motorvärmare" (this will heating the coolant in your motor) plus a "kupevärmare" (compartment heater). Choose a compartment heater that can be switched for low power and high power (600W or 1200W). The heaters are connected by a special set of cables and the connection to the line power (230 V) is med by a special connector mounted in the front of the car. You can by a programmable timer so that you will have a warm and comfy car in the morning! Typically you will have a 10A fuse so that the 1200W heater will work just fine! The block heater is typically 500 W! The block heater is mounted direct into the block (by removing a plug) so that is something you would let a garage do. Also its important to check the level of the antifreeze coolant at least -30 C I would recommend where you live!
I've seen a several youtubers taking on projects destined to fail, often due to naivety and ignorance. I don't think you guys are among those. Your hard work and most important: the fact that you listen to and ask for advice is what will take you through this winter and more. With that said, some (mostly car) advice for the winter: - Get a snow cover for the wind screen. This will save time when the car is completely covered in snow. And they are cheap: www.biltema.se/bil---mc/biltillbehor/bilkapell/sno--och-solskydd-2000031876 - If you don't have a block heater, get one! It's worth the installation costs. I'm not sure if your V70 is a petrol or a diesel, but if it's the latter, consider getting an fuel operated engine heater. They are not cheap, but considering how "fun" getting stranded in -30*C is, it might be worth it. And get a interior electric heater for the car. The swedish keywords are block heater:motorvärmare, interior heater:kupévärmare, fuel operated(dieselvärmare) vendors : Webasto and Eberspächer. Also for the diesel heater, check with the dealer if you need a bigger battery for it. Interior heater: www.biltema.se/bil---mc/biltillbehor/vinterprodukter/kupevarmare/kupevarmare-1400-w-2000035069?gclid=CjwKCAiAqJn9BRB0EiwAJ1SztfLDkN9EaP-dG0zzdmt-6JZR-5v1Q4WSQBN_Kdtc1K78e4_1gTxn6RoCioYQAvD_BwE - Carry a shovel and a tow line in the trunk. If you don't need to be shoveled or pulled out of snow, someone else might need to be by you! (tow line: bogserlina) - Also, a few videos ago I think I saw something worrying: a Semko-17 3-phase plug on an extension cord. Check if the cover of that thing is made out of metal, if so they may become live (due to corrosion). A 400V tickle is definitely lethal. Have an electrician change that to CEE-plugs/outlets in the future if the 3-phase is something you use regularly. - Consider getting a sun light (solterapilampa/"sun therapy lamp") and stock up on vitamin D (5000 IU or more). Seasonal affective disorder is a thing, but it can be managed! With all this said, I look forward to seeing more of you 2! Your positive energy is contagious!
Lovely to see you guys preparing for the winter so cautiously. When you've survived a Swedish winter so far north I think you should be considered a certified swede 😉 The boots and coats you have should be fine but seeing as you're soon going to be proper swedes you can always consider some Swedish quality brands like Fjällräven or Haglöfs that makes great coats and boots for this climate. And if you haven't already gotten some, you need to get a proper set of long johns and thick socks. Preferably made from merino wool. Best of luck guys and looking forward to future videos 🙂
Henrik, yes I'm in Virginia and I wear Merino Wool socks and some nice thermal long johns:-). Your'e right it's all about the quality and not the synthetics which will not keep them warm at all.
You’ll want some wool socks, too. Wool is warm even when wet, and if you have to do any outside work in freezing temps or lower, be sure to work slowly enough NOT to break a sweat. You can get sick if you sweat and then it dries. A thinner layer underneath, will help you, too. Buy cross-country ski under things, incl sock liners.
Yes, wool is great. Especially merino one. Buy yourself so called thermal underwear in Decathlon or other place. And a lot of layers in general in a way to go :) And a mittens when it gets colder!
omg thank you so much!!! My instincts would have told me to work as fast as possible had it not been for this comment, i would have ended up in trouble. We really have a lot to learn about the winter and we are so grateful to have you help us 💜💜
@@NaomiandJacktake your time to prepare. Also you don't need a lot of clothes. You just need some from good fabric (not like cotton) that can be layered Luckily you don't have to spend a lot of time outside when it gets too cold. If you figure out you need some more you can always buy more.
@@NaomiandJack Naomi - my sister lived in northern Wisconsin and one time while I was visiting it was late and we were at a neighbors, I started running to her house as it was SOOO cold (30-). My sis yelled at me to stop and by then I was probably a good 50 yards ahead so I stopped. She said I shouldn't breathe the cold air while running as it could hurt my lungs and she was right. I had a couple of bad days afterwards. So my point is wear a face mask or scarf over your nose and mouth so you don't breathe in very cold air.
It would be fun to see you interact with Sweden and the Swedes a bit, try the food, candy, learn Swedish, differences between UK and Sweden, what you like and not like about Sweden etc.
ooo we have soo much to share! we love the local food, we have tried reindeer and moose, the meatballs of course! and the people are great, we will definitely do some videos, perhaps for vlogmass 🤗❤
@@oskat8981 I have lived in Sweden 13 years and all in Stockholm but I have visited other areas. IMHO people are not as social in public spaces like the bus stop or stores as we are used to say in the US BUT are very social at work or when we come together to celebrate. It is the same when I have been in other areas. People are not very social in passing but very social as they have a way to interact with you. If you have a dog well, that is one of the best ways to meet new people as adult! Although my dog has more friends than I :). Sorry I typed a lot but really all I was saying is people are very fun and social in the right settings.
@@oskat8981 dude we’re literally all in our little bubble and that doesn’t mean that it’s bad it’s just the way we are. To me it’s not offensive and I’ve lived in Sweden all my life.
One winter I lived in Canada, and what I learned from that is: layering is all. Multiple layers are far better then a very warm sweater. I therefore like to wear vests, you open them up and voila: cooling down but still warm. You really want to avoid sweating to much, because if you start to sweat, you cool down, which is not what you want. I really like merino woolen socks(no blisters!), and as base layering. It’s soft and wool doesn’t hurt when you sweat. You stay warm, but moist will damp out. It costs a bit though.. I hope you have enough wood for the winter! Can’t wait for more vid’s, love them. And you do know that wood needs to dry for a year before it’s practical to use as fire wood? Can’t wait for that video, cutting down wood from your own forest 🌳
Be sure to buy shoes with enough space in them for several woolen socks. If your shoes are too small, it does not matter if they are well insulated, your feet will freeze anyway. Winter is cold, but beautiful.😁
oo thank you soo much. Winter seems to be very different here compared to the UK. it seems dryer which we love! we can't wait to experience ti properly 🤗❤
I must add that being a Dane i’ve rarely experienced the kind of winters that you’ll meet in Norrland but you’re right. It will be freezing cold, -20˚+ maybe -30-35˚ but itwill be a dry cold. Buckets of snow and hard freeze. Besides the Volvo, buy Swedish when it comes to clothing too. And for heaven’s sake - ask the local’s. They know what to do.
@@NaomiandJack Don't worry so much about the cold. If the air is dry -25 is not so bad at all. -10 is actually quite nice. I have had the unfortunate experience of spending a lot of winters in Gothenburg and Stockholm. -5 here with our high humidity is awful. You won't freeze to death, but you sometimes wish that you did. I would trade our humid half hearted cold for the freezing cold of Norrland any day. It is only when the temperature goes well below -25 that things starts to get a bit hairy. But a few layers of clothing and warm socks will see you through that. It is not rocket science. Just keep your feet, hands and head warm. Wool caps, socks and mittens are cheap. So are undergarments and sweaters. You do not need to buy super expensive specialized clothes, as long as you are not planning to stay outdoors all day in extreme temperatures. And why would you do that?
Hi guys.......interesting life you have with prep for winter...Im from the Caribbean so this is informative. I luv to see u beautiful and fun-loving couple settling yourselves at home. Your spouse is from a beautiful country so continue to enjoy being part of the community. You deserve this. Your vlogs are very refreshing and makes me happy.
I love the red paint! I grew up in Illinois in a red house which was very uncommon in the area although the town is full of Swedes. You are very hard workers and a joy to watch. Keep the videos coming, I love Saturday’s.
I'm half Swede from Illinois. I wish I had a red house. There were several in the town by the farm I grew up on. All of our barns and outbuildings were always red but our house was shingled with cedar. Hi neighbor!
You don't understand how amazing it is to read your comment! We are so grateful to have you watch and enjoy our content! We love the red houses too, many younger Swedes are moving away from the traditional red and there are now many different coloured houses but we think the red is the best! 💜
I have lived in Alaska for 50 years. In my opinion, a good pair rubber bottom, leather top boots with thick felt liners are the best boots for everyday use in cold climates. They are comfortable and they breathe, which is important. An all rubber boot will build up condensation in side which is not nice when you stop and stand around in the cold. I am sure they have similar foot ware in Sweden. With regard to letting the house get below freezing in the winter, don't!!! Frozen waterlines will split. A broken water line in a cold house can destroy the entire house. It will become like a mushroom cave. I have seen it happen. It is a very ugly situation!! Be careful.
My Absolute favourite YT couple! 👍 I enjoy seeing the progress you make with evey post..you're really putting in the sweat equity. That home has never been so proud as now I'll wager! The neighbors are probably relieved you young folks stayed with tradition in painting the exterior red. Wonderful editing too!
I'm from central Minnesota, USA. Our winters can be brutal. Usually we experience a couple of weeks of -25 f or even -40 f. Wind-chill is extremely cold. Our winter lasts from November-March. We don't leave the house during the coldest most dangerous times. We make sure to have a few days of food on hand ahead of time. Vehicles won't start unless they are in a garage plugged in to a block heater. It's dangerous to go out driving. Definitely prepare a winter survival kit to put in your vehicle. Breathing in that kind of weather hurts. It hurts your face. Your nostrils freeze. I love being cozy in a warm home with plenty of good food and having my loved ones close to me during artic freezing weather and blizzards. Minnesota has a huge Swedish community! I'm partly Swedish. We live 8 miles away from a town called Mora! Every winter we have a ski race vasaloppet. Very Swedish!!!
So amazed at how crafty, handy and resourceful you two are. God continue to shine his light and mercy on you. Your reward will be amazing for all your hard work. Love from Ontario Canada
For you car, you should also buy extra headlights since it will be mostly dark throughout winter. While you’re at it, buy flash lights, small and big ones, and the kind that you can wear on your head! You’ll be trudging around in the dark most of winter.
Congrats and thanks for sharing. It's like taking a vacation watching you guys. Keep up the hard work and everything will work out fine. Be blessed and stay safe.
Winter shoes depends on what you do. As you guys seem to like walking around in the forest I would recommend padded shoes that look like rain boots and a pair of täckbyxor to go over them. For good protection make shore the pants have a rubber band on the bottom to hook them together. Put these words in google and you will be set for winter: läder-tumvantar, täckbyxor, tjocksockar, långkalsonger, tubhalsduk, vinterstövlar.
One word fantastic. You both have just filled your lovely home with love . 💜I live in scotland .not quite as cold .just love you both so much . You are such an insperation x❣🏴.please take care and stay safe . X
Buy some large woolen socks, and just put them over your shoes when it's really cold. because the snow will be to cold to attach to the fabric. You may make a deal with someone with a tractor to plow your drive-way after major snowfalls. . It's a long drive-way.
Thanks for the tip! It is a very loong drive haha, we actually found a really cute farm near by so we will ask them! a lot of people have told the snow blower won't cut it haha. This is such a learning experience. tThank you for being there to guide us 🤗❤
@@NaomiandJack That snow blower is a bit of a toy and you are certainly better off with a tractor helping you out. Should be like 1000 - 2000 SEK for a winter.
Try looking at boots by Sorel. I have caribou's and used them dog sledding. It was -30deg C at times and my feet were never cold! I did have two pairs of good socks on as well
I am from Canada and I have Sorels. I usually wear them with RedHead socks, which come with a lifetime warrenty. I'm not sure if you can get them there but they are great socks!

In the 1980's, 90's when farmers were asked why they painted their barns red, the answer was always, red paint is the cheapest. When paint companies were asked in turn why red paint was cheaper than other colors, they responded because we sell more red paint than any other color.

@@NaomiandJack so far we have been thinking of within 100km of Lulea or Pitea so we will not be to far from the airport .and only want to spend no more than £25K as we will only be using it for around 4 weeks per year .we also have a small house in the Philippines but its now become to expensive to get there from the uk around £5k just for the flights.
Kodiak winter boots ( love from Canada) Wool socks liner, and thin silk socks under the Woolies. It’s the layers that help and trap the heat . Wool insulates ( merino wool comes in different thickness... for pullovers etc.... try a brand called Icebreaker)....even when wet. Make sure boots are not too tight / loose with extra layers . I don’t know what they do in Sweden.... in Canada with driving , we use a combination of de-icer and road salt . When I lived in the prairies , I always had a bag in my car.... also, the weight of the bags, 50 pounds, helps to stabilise the vehicle ( more weight in the vehicle, helps to slow or prevent some skidding or slides on the road ice whilst driving.)
I remember when I found your channel and the joy it brought me. And it still does! The soul of the house must feel so loved right now, and it will fight for you as you have for it. Thank you for showing us all of your hard work and the love you have for each other. @@Ragt0p agree! I scroll through the comments and conclude even Bear Gryll would be jelaous of all equipment they are suggested to get for the winter. :)
It's so wonderful to see how loving you are to each other. I think you will have a very good life together. We need doctors in the northern part of Sweden so I hope you will stay after your first year in your own house. Don't let the winter change your mind of staying in Sweden for good. There is always the summer with lot of light.
If noone has mentioned it: use "Underställ" in the winter when it gets down to -30. ALWAYS stay dry. Nice warm clothes/shoes is key. Another really important thing is to learn how to be cold. Accepting cold is a skill. Beeing a bit cold in the autumn will help you adapt easier to the more extreme temperatures that you will have to deal with in winter.
You two are very smart to ASK for help and advice. You are very hard workers and have accomplished so much in time for winter. Love your videos! Did not talk about being FOOD prep'd. You may be home bound for long periods of time. You must stock up on food supplies also. But, be careful where you stock the supplies. Canned goods will explode if allowed to get down to 0. Ask locals what items to consider and plan for a shelf in the kitchen to store it for this winter to save money.
I actually wait for your posts every Saturday x love you both so honest , you have made myself and my partner at the grand old age of 50 consider buying a place in Sweden 🇸🇪 lol

You two have changed that look of that house in record time! Great job! I love it! I am 1/2 Swedish in the US and have always wanted to go there but I am following you and seeing it now. You two stay warm this winter and make sure to get some wool socks. They are warm as can be and even if you get them wet will still keep your feet warm. Is there any insulation in your home at all?
From the mountains of Colorado... Thrift stores are the best because i find we need two sets of everything! Its great if you get all winterized and dont have to work in the snow but plan for dealing with wood gathering, power outages or frozen/broken pipes and stuck vehicle. Handling any of that in a Blizzard gets your gear all wet and you need a second set thats dry and even a set that stays in the car in case of having to dig the car out ofva snow bank. Also ice melt product for car door handles, winshield and sometimes the front door 😄. You need to keep a storage of water in the house in case pipes freeze as well.
Jack, have you insulated the pipes under the house? Frozen pipes are a real PITA. Your house looks absolutely lovely. And Naomi, have you thought about doing your studies in Sweden?
Hi Jo Jo, thanks for the comment. I haven't insulated the pipes yet actually, what would you suggest to use to do so? Naomi is actually looking into that 😊
Very unlikely the pipes will freeze, as they are in a full cellar. The house and pipes have survived lots of winters already, too 😊 Look out for pipes close to the outside, or in cellar rooms with damaged windows or vents. Typically pipes would be put where they won’t freeze. Sounless something is broken, It will probably not be a problem.
@@NaomiandJack check out your local hardware store and ask for pipe insulator. It should be a semi-maliable piece of foam that wraps around your pipes - so you will nerd to measure the thickness of your pipes so it can fix around it. It will have a slit to make installing it easier. Of course check the rating to see what temp it is good until. www.biltema.se/en-se/construction/hvac/piping-installations/piping-accessories/pipe-insulation-2000023027

If you are driving a lot please buy a new set of winter tyres it is very important. 3. Any boots that are by nordic companies would do good in the negative temperature but you have to buy wool socks. If you are working a lot outside you can also buy heated shoe sole pads. Available online 4. I don’t know have you started taking vitamins, if no start quickly. I have struggled more with the darkness than the cold. 5. If your car does not have engine heater install one it will help a lot.

When I look at the map I notice that you live only 6 km from the small village "Missenträsk". This is the birthplace of a very famous Swedish author Sara Lidman (1923 - 2004). In her books she describes the very tough life of living in the north of Sweden where people were struggling with poverty, not enough food, to many children to feed, unemployment, alcoholism, illnesses etc, during a time that now is gone. You can read about her nordicwomensliterature.net/2012/02/14/the-call-of-the-unheard-of/ I think that the house where she was born now is some kind of museum with activities for young authors. Sara Lidman lived in South Africa in 1960-61 where she was jailed because she fell in love with the black politician Peter Nthite breaking the moral law. Only after an intervention by the UN general secretary (Dag Hammarsköld) she was able to return home to Sweden. The story is told in the film "Livets Pris" (The price of life) by Fanny Degerfelt (2018),

@@ajNKaj Yes, what a wonderful coincidence that Naomi and Jack has bought a house just a short bikeride from Sara Lidmans family house! I mean, the north of Sweden "Norrland" is large (about the size of France!). In this film you can see and hear Sara (4:40) ruclips.net/video/V0Kx9xje3Ls/видео.html The young musician in the film is David Sanström member of the famous punk band Refused. While in South Africa she also met Nadine Gordimer (1991 Nobel prize in litterature). In Johannesburg she experienced apartheid, which inspired her to write the book "Jag och min son" (Me and my son, 1961). I want to correct something I've got wrong, the director of the movie "Livets Pris" is Åsa Faringer.

Hi Ulf, this is such an amazing story. I am from South Africa and find that element very interesting! I have searched on the internet, but could not find anything about this aspect of her life. Can you share a link or a book that I can read?
I was wondering why every house in Sweden was painted red? Also I thought the weather was cold in Chicago Illinois but Sweden has a different kind of cold burr 🥶. Your bathroom renovation turned out well, you guys really did an amazing job 👍 You were wise to buy some items for winter, I also have a snowplow and snow tires that scraper will absolutely come in handy in the winter for getting ice off of your vehicle. I'm going to try and find that jacket y'all brought I could use one like that when our weather is negative seven. Stay warm and safe blessing to you and your hubby.
The reason why many houses in Sweden are red is because of the Swedish colour Falu red, which is produced in a small town called Falun which has copper mines. The red pigment first emerged as a by-product of the mining. When heated up and mixed with water and starch, it creates a durable paint that since the end of the 18th century has been part of the image of Swedish style. At one time it was also popular because it could make a building resemble European red-brick houses, which were mostly owned by wealthy tradesmen.
Thank you for sharing, my family comes from Finland and Sweden and I plan of visiting in the near future to connect with my father's family. I live in MT Dora Florida so I have warm weather year round. You two are so cute together and also such hard workers. Live for the moment...❤🌴🙏🇺🇸🏄
Just seen the part where you show the box containing the snowplow. Please be smart leave that one in the box. I promise you, you don't want an electric one, you'll run over the cable many many times before the end of winter. If you think having a cable on a lawnmower is a pain, well this will be quadruple. If you're going for economy I'd get a used gasoline powered, it'll cost a bit more than the electric one but it'll do the job better too and throw the snow further, won't look so important at the beginning of winter but if you make a narrow wall in the beginning you'll end up with sides so high that the machine won't be able to throw the snow over it.
Yeah, that thing might work for a little sidewalk of a few feet and definitely not the driveway. When they told them to buy a plow, they meant a plow, not a snowthrower. 😂 MN girl here. We know snow and cold.
In addition, snow has the tendency to come in batches 🤪 meaning. Nothing, nothing, nothing.....what the heck where did that meter with snow come from? And, didn't I just remove the snow in our driveway? It ain't snowing and still the wind is filling up our driveway.
Love your videos! Beautiful landscapes. You both work together well and make a great couple and team! Be safe and enjoy the experience. God bless you both🙏🏾🤗😊
@@NaomiandJack Pronounce "uh" in english. That's the sound of Ö. Ä is a bit harder to put into the english lexicon, but I guess would be like "err" but wihout the r's. Å is a deeper "Ooh". Hope that helps!
When it comes to snow tires, you should have the pair with the most tread put on the rear axle, not the front. Even on a fwd car! Good tread on your rear tires will keep the car stable on the road and prevent fish tailing. The slightly less tread on the front tires will simply cause you to adapt your speed and driving to the conditions slightly more, which is actually a good thing.
I live in Canada precisely Calgary and it gets very cold . Today I tried a tip to clear an icy windshield which actually worked... so put some warm slightly hot water in ziplock/ sandwich bag and while you warm up the car wipe the frost off the windshield. It actually worked...it was about -10 Celsius. All the best to one of the most brave couple out there🙌🏾

couple things. the paint shouldn’t be put on in anything under 12’C needs to be warmer so just make sure your bottom section that will be in contact with the snow is sorted and you’ll be ok till next year. boots wise get the ones you would of been recommend are the polyver snow boot. just don’t think of anything else. these are made in sweden for swedish weather. you’ll thank me when you’re out in -25 and your warm. good set of thermals is a must do not go out without them until you know how cold real cold is! also cover your face as much as possible. i can’t stress enough that -25 and below hurts your face if there is any kind of wind. go to engelsons for a cover they a few and good prices along with the thermals and coats etc.
HAhha oh nooo I can't remember what the temperature was when we put the paint on! if we have to do this again soon I don't know what I will do!
Wow thank you so much for this comment! So many useful tips!! 😍😍
Great advice! Plus Hand warmers
Keep on the lookout for a larger snow plow.
Wonderful advice .... comment from a seasoned Canadian. It's all about the feet...wooly socks, the best boots and linings when required. Hugs.
That is sooo very nice of you to offer them! 😊 Blessings to you 💛

As a Canadian used to cold winters, get the block heater, get proper snow tires, and that snow blower is way too small for a driveway.
If you install a system, add the battery charger as well!
+1 for kupévärmare, very nice!
WOW, what incredible advice.
@@lorrainehinchliffe5371 I think the snowblower is going to be too small also.
I've seen a several youtubers taking on projects destined to fail, often due to naivety and ignorance. I don't think you guys are among those. Your hard work and most important: the fact that you listen to and ask for advice is what will take you through this winter and more.
With that said, some (mostly car) advice for the winter:
- Get a snow cover for the wind screen. This will save time when the car is completely covered in snow. And they are cheap: www.biltema.se/bil---mc/biltillbehor/bilkapell/sno--och-solskydd-2000031876
- If you don't have a block heater, get one!
Interior heater: www.biltema.se/bil---mc/biltillbehor/vinterprodukter/kupevarmare/kupevarmare-1400-w-2000035069?gclid=CjwKCAiAqJn9BRB0EiwAJ1SztfLDkN9EaP-dG0zzdmt-6JZR-5v1Q4WSQBN_Kdtc1K78e4_1gTxn6RoCioYQAvD_BwE
- Carry a shovel and a tow line in the trunk. If you don't need to be shoveled or pulled out of snow, someone else might need to be by you! (tow line: bogserlina)
- Also, a few videos ago I think I saw something worrying: a Semko-17 3-phase plug on an extension cord.
I pointed out that extension lead in the first video. I strongly suspect it's for the large saw outside, that definitely looks old enough!
If it gets really cold put a piece of cardboard in front of the car radiator.
Also get extra headlights.
Lovely to see you guys preparing for the winter so cautiously. When you've survived a Swedish winter so far north I think you should be considered a certified swede 😉
The boots and coats you have should be fine but seeing as you're soon going to be proper swedes you can always consider some Swedish quality brands like Fjällräven or Haglöfs that makes great coats and boots for this climate.
And a lot of layers in general in a way to go :)
And a mittens when it gets colder!
omg thank you so much!!!
You just need some from good fabric (not like cotton) that can be layered
Luckily you don't have to spend a lot of time outside when it gets too cold.

I have lived in Sweden 13 years and all in Stockholm but I have visited other areas.
This young couple is fast becoming my favourite people.
Good advice!
Yes, you need space for socks...real warm socks :)
Wooly socks.
oo thank you soo much.

Be careful.
Lundhags would be the Swedish classic brand for that kind of boots.
You kids are so clever and hard working. The house looks AMAZING. GOOD JOB Jack and Naomi!

Make sure you have a block heater in your car that you plug in when parked.
Your car will never start mid winter if you don’t.
Put these words in google and you will be set for winter: läder-tumvantar, täckbyxor, tjocksockar, långkalsonger, tubhalsduk, vinterstövlar.

hehe we hope so! also i guess it will be easier to see where our house is 🤗❤

I love you guys, the way you're working together to build your home, impresses me
The house is looking more beautiful 😍 every day. You guys did a great job.

Stumbled on your channel and I'm loving it. Wishing you all the luck in your first season of cold! The rule of three...???...When looking at a wood stack and believing it to be enough. Chances are your off by a factor of three. Old wood burners lament! Funny story from farming in the United States. In the 1980's, 90's when farmers were asked why they painted their barns red, the answer was always, red paint is the cheapest. When paint companies were asked in turn why red paint was cheaper than other colors, they responded because we sell more red paint than any other color.
It might get rough up here! Stay warm, you awesome people :D
Thanks Stefan 😊
Whooooo nice shopping the coats look so lovely and your house is looking so nice i enjoyed watching stay bless i love your dancing 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
What a difference a little paint/flooring and some "piffing" made! Brilliant! :)
haha, we a re so excited with how it turned out! we were very worried about how we would make it habitable but it is perfect! paint is our best friend 🤗❤ thank you for your comment!
Brilliant and refreshing to watch you two. Keep up the great work and entertainment 👍
The wife and I are looking to buy a house in Northern Sweden in the next two years ,so we are finding your vlogs very interesting so far ,remember to try and avoid wearing cotton as your underlayers ,Decathlon is a very good store ,just had some stuff delivered to day merino socks fleeces ect ,take care x
oo can't wait to be neighbours, which part of Sweden are you looking to move too? Thank you so much .. We definitely need some merino wool, we have heard so many great reviews 🤗❤
So glad I’m subscribed. Can’t wait to see a massive snow fall 👍🏾💕🙏🏾oh yea I’m watching from CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA USA 🇺🇸
I live in The north of sweden
I realy recomend power boots. They are realy warm🤗
Kodiak winter boots ( love from Canada)
Wool socks liner, and thin silk socks under the Woolies.
When I lived in the prairies , I always had a bag in my car.... also, the weight of the bags, 50 pounds, helps to stabilise the vehicle ( more weight in the vehicle, helps to slow or prevent some skidding or slides on the road ice whilst driving.)
you gave the greatest honour to the dead former owner.
I remember when I found your channel and the joy it brought me. And it still does! The soul of the house must feel so loved right now, and it will fight for you as you have for it.
Thank you for showing us all of your hard work and the love you have for each other.
And remember to check the drains as it gets colder, here in Sweden they turn to ice really fast in the winter and it's always upsetting in the morning when you want coffee 😂 best of luck from Linköping ❤
Forgot to mention: silk longjohns are a must.
ooo, I haven't seen those sold anywhere. Where can i find them? Thank you once again for taking the time to comment 🤗❤
eBay had them..I am in Michigan which gets extremely cold. Uggs work well...get the waterproof kind.
@@NaomiandJack Siden Selma is a swedish store that sells a lot of silk products, they arent cheap but their quality is amazing! ❤️
Not a must. But perhaps nice? My vote is for wool 🐑
Awh thank you Heidi, glad you enjoy the videos!! Haha Jack's parents are considering the same... We told them to come visit first! ❤️
@@NaomiandJack yes we are so excited to be visiting for Christmas! ❤️❤️
The northern parts of Sweden are beautiful. Alot of nature that you can walk around in. Cold winters but its worth it :) If you are looking for a place i would recommend www.hemnet.se/ its a good place to look.
@@Jimmytollarp hey thank you. Jack & Naomi recommended hemnet.se too. Do you live in Northern Sweden?
@@LiveYourselfYoung i live in the southern part of Sweden called Skåne. I have been up in the north. If I get the chance I would move there in a heartbeat. I'm trying to find a job up there.
Hi Naomi and Jack. I have shared your RUclips with a very good friend of mine in Gothenburg and asked her to reach out to and offer some support.
She has been living in Sweden for about 30years.
Well done. I'm sure your parents would be very proud of you both. because I am.
Naomi is actually looking into that 😊
If they haven't frozen yet, I doubt they will if the house is warmed.
I find myself exhausted watching you hard workers! 👏🏽 😊 I'm afraid I'd be of little help because I'm such a procrastinator. 🤦🏽♀️ Your cinematography is soooo good! 🙌🏽 😍
I look forward to your videos on Saturdays! Be safe, Be Well, Be Warm & Love & support each other, always!!!
This means so much to us thank you soo much. We are very much enjoying it so far, the weather isn't too cold yet so we are definitely keeping warm and supporting each other 💜 Sending you lots of love
Well done again, preparing for winter. Being organised is so important, it saves so much time.
U are right to prepare. We were caught in a snow storm on our way to ski holiday. Keep blankets in your vehicle, flashlights/lanterns, bag of sand/grit etc. my husband also has a car battery charger. You can charge anything with it, phones, iPad, truck battery, etc. it has come in hand more than once. Love your videos and determination. So refreshing to see a young couple tackle the world. 👍🏾❤️❤️❤️🙂
They bought tirechains, so they don't need a bucket of sand. Although, a bucket of sand in the trunk makes wonders for the grip on rear drive cars.
Plus a shovel, ice scraper for windshield, big bag of trail mix, and a medical kit.

After living your neighbour country finland for 4 years and coming from a tropical country these are my takes
1. Those big cumbersome jackets do keep you warm but they are not comfortable to wear 😢😢. Better buy some down jacket with feel power more then 750 it will be written on the jacket. pair it with a good wind breaker.
2. If you are driving a lot please buy a new set of winter tyres it is very important.
3. Any boots that are by nordic companies would do good in the negative temperature but you have to buy wool socks. If you are working a lot outside you can also buy heated shoe sole pads. Available online
4. I don’t know have you started taking vitamins, if no start quickly. I have struggled more with the darkness than the cold.
5. If your car does not have engine heater install one it will help a lot.
I love how you guys are sooo humble and appreciative. You two took what was left on the property you purchased and turned your home into something beautifully wonderful. I love all the repurposing. Blessings to you both. Much love from America.
Kavat is a company that makes really good shoes that will keep you warm. I think actually that timberlands might work many days of the winter but not the coldest ones. Just remember to wear layers on your feet, one layer of very thin socks under a pair of thick socks!
Thank you soo much ❤️❤️
Yes, up to -20 should be ok with warm socks. And of course moving as much as possible ;-))
You could also look for insulated overboots -- less good for using with snowshoes or skiis though. You do have snowshoes and skiis, right???
I'm getting childhood memories of working on my grandparents houses that looked like that.
Renovation was always a family thing as my grandparents both had a lot of children so we could paint a huge farmhouse in a day, especially if we used farmer safety standards !

The story is told in the film "Livets Pris" (The price of life) by Fanny Degerfelt (2018),
ulf jonsson Thank you for your history and geography lesson..oh my what a story. Yes i know name Dag Hammersjold, a hall of residence for post graduate students was named after him in Ugandan University where i vacationed as a child in the Idi AminTerrible killing 70s. This story really tickled my bone. My love of amazing history. I think its fits in with Naomi and Jack too mixed race marriage and mine. How blessed are we to live where we live in the time we do!!
@@ajNKaj Yes, what a wonderful coincidence that Naomi and Jack has bought a house just a short bikeride from Sara Lidmans family house! I mean, the north of Sweden "Norrland" is large (about the size of France!).

ruclips.net/video/V0Kx9xje3Ls/видео.html
The young musician in the film is David Sanström member of the famous punk band Refused.
While in South Africa she also met Nadine Gordimer (1991 Nobel prize in litterature).
In Johannesburg she experienced apartheid, which inspired her to write the
book "Jag och min son" (Me and my son, 1961).
I want to correct something I've got wrong, the director of the
movie "Livets Pris" is Åsa Faringer.
ulf jonsson i thank you so much. Am going to look for her books in english. I love this intricate tapestry of connection of people through people. Am of Rwandan origin, born in exile in uganda (1963)

God bless you both🙏🏾🤗😊
Rödfärg is not pronounced rodfarg lol, more like rerd-ferry. ö and ä are separate letters in Swedish.
😂😂😂 i'm so sorry, our Swedish lessons have obviously not been going great
@@NaomiandJack Pronounce "uh" in english. That's the sound of Ö.
Ä is a bit harder to put into the english lexicon, but I guess would be like "err" but wihout the r's.
Å is a deeper "Ooh".
Hope that helps!
Pronounce the ä like the e in egg or ferry.
Thank you for sharing your Journey! you are such a beautiful couple. I love seeing your Renovations & your life in Sweden.
This!
All the best to one of the most brave couple out there🙌🏾
For sure beautiful place to live albeit it will be extremely cold but as they say preparation, preparation preparations is key. I personally love the cold but I don’t think I’ve ever been somewhere that could be that cold

I love your videos and to get you perspective on Sweden. I also like the thoughtful comments in the video from Naomi. And talking about winter, you really got the latitude for get a long cold winter :D I live in the south it is a big difference
couple things. the paint shouldn’t be put on in anything under 12’C needs to be warmer so just make sure your bottom section that will be in contact with the snow is sorted and you’ll be ok till next year. boots wise get the ones you would of been recommend are the polyver snow boot. just don’t think of anything else. these are made in sweden for swedish weather. you’ll thank me when you’re out in -25 and your warm. good set of thermals is a must do not go out without them until you know how cold real cold is! also cover your face as much as possible. i can’t stress enough that -25 and below hurts your face if there is any kind of wind. go to engelsons for a cover they a few and good prices along with the thermals and coats etc.
HAhha oh nooo I can't remember what the temperature was when we put the paint on! if we have to do this again soon I don't know what I will do! @@NaomiandJack If the paint is bubbly or flakey in spring, it means it was too cold/wet when put on. That's why most people in northen sweden paint in late May/early June when it's the most dry.
