    This is great, I need to get me one of these gas mask bags for my mess kit. I’ve also got the stainless version. Really good to see the lid in action. I’ve been hovering over exactly this on EBay. I’m not such a fan of using the smaller pan as a lid for the big pot as I’ve often got residue on the bottom from having it over the Trang is burner. The alu lid would take care of that. I’m in the UK so lucky on the postage front. Could I ask where you sourced the leather strap for yours? Take care.

      The bags, cups and strap came from flobyoverskottslager.se . However, you will have to ask them specifically for it, as they are not listed on the website. I usually talk to Daniel there via email/message. Pretty reasonable shipping of 1 kg or lower, very expensive if over that because they are in the middle of nowhere as far as logistics go!

      Eskimo Marine thanks so much for the reply. This site is awesome! May not be good for the wallet but so many cool things to consider. Thanks again.

      I love to hate that place. It costs me $100-200 in shipping depending on what I buy they have so many cool items. Talk to Daniel and let him know that Charles sent you! You can see some of my reviews on stuff in there.

      Thanks Charles I will do that! Ha, I bet with postage costs like that. I’m having similar fun with postage at the moment. I recently picked up a pre-loved Frostriver Timber Cruiser Jnr for a great price in the UK. Unfortunately it’s missing the tumpline. I’ve looked everywhere in the UK but nowhere stocks them separately . To buy direct the tumpline costs $20 but including shipping it comes to $77. I’ll bite the bullet eventually once I’ve stopped crying about the postage! 😂

      if you would rather go practical than authentic like I did look on Ebay UK for nylon luggage straps and order the appropriate size

    Do you think those mess kits are worth it? I have a trangia 27, trying to argue with myself about adding this one too. Appreciate the review, Eskimo.

      I have a Trangia duossal 25, but I don't have a 27. I think dimensionally, the 27 is about the same size and capacity the same between 27 and mess kit. I think that the old mess kits now only make sense for collectors, reenacting or people with a crazy taste like me. I still use the mess kit when it is just me or if my son is with me. The Stainless ones are nearly indestructible, so that is one thing that may be better. Last minor point is that you can hang them over a fire vs. the 27. The kits are heavy as well. The prices are going up all of the time, so probably not worth it.
      You can check Rodastjarnan dot com, I think they still sell an unused aluminum for about $39 and shipping should be $10 or less. Stainless will be over $100 for sure.

    Skol from Minnesota....love the lid. Been looking for that item for quite awhile now. If I were to ask, on a scale of 1-10, what would you rate it at? Shipping from the UK is insane (twice the price of the item) so I would take your opinion into great account whether or not to pull the trigger on it. Thanks....

    • @eskimomarine2252
      @eskimomarine2252  3 года назад

      It is a 10 because you won't have to use your top pot as lid and you can use the perforated one to strain pasta.

    Would you please post the dimensions of the leather strap? I haven't been able to find one so I'm going to try to make one. ATB Sam Adler

      Sorry for the wait. The strap is 27-5/8 inches long by 5/8 inches wide. On my strap, the folded length, on the back, from the buckle is 1-3/8. There is a rivet about 1-1/8 from the fold, where the buckle is.
