      It made me cry, too, just seeing him make the right decisions. Both during his apology to the Young Bucks and when he chose the Dark Order over alcohol. He finally understands the power of friendship… and/or he chose his family. I hope that, even if you never get to have a great relationship with your mom, you can find family that makes your life fulfilling and full of love 💗

    "The time of larger than life characters is over. It was a product of it's time. Now we need characters we can relate to" - This is the biggest change in Pro Wrestling in the last decade. Relatable characters. While the 80th and 90th brought some truly legendary characters to life, their time is over. Hangman is the definition of what a fantastic character in Wrestling in 2021 can be. Even Darbys character, his unique gear and style has its roots in his insecurities. That's why Darby is so relatable (Especially to the younger audience).

    A thing of beauty, if WCW didn’t ruin the Crow Sting arc right at the end it would be right beside this as far as long term. Goldberg undefeated, is a long term arc, Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak and losing it to Brock all long term. The reason I think this arc works the best is it had real life twist into it. Brodie Lee (God bless the man) passing was a catalyst to the Dark Order’s part in Hangman’s story. All Out would have been a fine place to win, but I think Page’s hiatus for the birth of his child let the story get a bit of extra momentum down right near the end since it added a whole extra element to Page. This story had real life change it in beautiful ways even in dark moments. Page to me is the most compelling wrestler I’ve ever seen, but I got to live it, I’m only 21 so I didn’t live some of the great long arcs, but I feel more impacted by long arcs and frankly those stories are dying out in wrestling, but this is the exception the story that could and it has been one of the best stories regardless of medium and that’s a beautiful and strange thing to happen in wrestling of all places.

    • @SDG.12
      @SDG.12 3 года назад +6

      undertaker's streak wasn't really an arc. it was a thing that came to be by happenstance and then became a thing they whipped out in february every year. vince hasn't done a long time story arc in 20 years. the only thing that comes close is the Daniel Bryan arc, and that too happened cause the fans forced his hand.

      Agreed except about taker losing to Brock. There's an interview with Paul heyman where he asks 'who else could have done it believably', that isn't because brock was booked long term to beat taker, its because he's fucking ufc former champ brock lesnar.
      The ending of the streak was a disgrace (how it ended, not that it did, it always should have ended).

    You could see that when Hangman won, he went straight down to Omega to pat him and thank him, and Omega gesturing back. Omega knew that losing the title to Page was the right thing to do and a monumental part of Hangman's story. The Bucks being in his corner, when they weren't originally was a great piece of long term storytelling as well. Seeing the Hangman's rise then fall than rise again to the top is a fantastic piece to a great story where Adam even admitted, that he doubted himself and let himself down so many times when he found what he was telling himself and delivering was lies, which in itself created doubts in himself. To see him overcoming it was the cherry on the top, to show that despite all his struggles, with time he had worked hard and arrived to the point of redemption where he had discovered true friends and a true belief that he can be the World Champion and would become one.

    The story of Tranquilo Club, a drama in 4 acts: "Masterpiece", "Heartbreaking", "Calculated" and "Triumph".
    Seriously though, this was such a powerful long-term story that even I had to buy Full Gear to see it conclude. Now little confession: I've never actually bought a wrestling PPV before. I've done almost all my following of wrestling after the fact or second hand because watching wrestling normally isn't easy for me, and I've had financial issues during the pandemic especially which have made it hard to justify starting to drop money on PPVs, but in this case I ummed and ahhed and went back and forth but eventually threw down the money because I just _had_ to see the culmination of Hangman's story (and also Kingston vs Punk). And what a payoff! It really does feel like a dramatic movie got its exciting climax and heartwarming happy ending.

I am just torturing myself) AEW has done a fantastic job in introducing old and new stars to a wider audience. I am now more interested in NJPW and other indie stuffs as well. Golden Lovers. As good as this one with Page has been, it doesn't come close to that one. It was a story told over ten years with so many amazing moments. That is the best ever IMO. Better than Sting/NWO, better than Austin/McMahon, better than Mega Powers, better than anything else I have seen. So much detail and done so well over such a long period of time. Not sure it will ever be topped IMO.

    This was definitely one of the best studies on long-term storytelling in wrestling. Tony Khan stuck with what was being built on TV and on The Elite's vlogs and never put it on the backburner for too long where it got lost in the shuffle. Another thing I love is how they got back to stuff that took place even before AEW and don't try to erase history because "It didn't happen here". Thus far AEW hasn't disappointed as far as sticking with a plan, dealing with whatever wrench is thrown into the machinery and plowing ahead.

    I'm so glad I followed this story almost since the beginning and after a long break from wrestling. Hangman's Tale is currently one of, if not my single favorite wrestling story...ever. The match with Omega as well is the first wrestling match I saw that made me cry. The first chapter in Hangman's tale has ended,but it's far from over.

    This story worked so well because we can ALL relate to it. Self doubt gets us all at some point, watching such a relatable story play out through the filter of pro wrestling has been amazing to watch, and I don't think it could've worked with anyone other than Kenny, Hangman and The Bucks.
    Hangman has taken the torch, and now Kenny can get some well deserved rest. His contribution to this story cannot be ignored.

    I remember seeing Page debut in ROH and thought to myself, man, the kid is alright but he's got a long way to go.
    I then saw him join the BC and his story + matches following. I thought to myself, man, this kid has improved a lot since his ROH days but he still has a long way to go.
    When AEW was created and he had that first match, I thought to myself, man, this kid has improved a hell of a lot, maybe there's something in him.
    Fast forward two years and I can help but think to myself, man, this kid has got it all.
    Just goes to show that with time, with the right story, and with the right character, a cowboy can make it and can become the best Babyface of this generation (so far).

    You know what might make a fun video? comparing Hangman's arc to Cutler's arc on Dark when he was striving for his first win. There's a surprising number of similar elements that occur in both arcs, to the point I can't help wondering if Cutler was effectively running an early rehearsal of Hangman's arc to help fine tune it into what we just experienced

    • @LadyAstarionAncunin
      @LadyAstarionAncunin 3 года назад +1

      They were following typical story structuring. But it'd be good to examine. That has me wondering what's next for Cutler because he's been demoted in a sense while also being present all of the time. I feel like he should have come into the company as the stooge character and then gained agency to do his own thing. But at least his role now is keeping him relevant.

    • @EditDeath
      @EditDeath 3 года назад

      @@LadyAstarionAncunin True on the story structure, it's just interesting to me how both stories included the Young Bucks specifically coming out to show support on the big day.
      As for Cutler's entrance, into the company, maybe. The danger there is that it's so easy to get stuck in the stooge role once you make a name there. I'm just glad he was able to make the most of things after his facial injury took him out of matches. Once he's back, I kinda hope we get to see his dragon costume again. As far as I'm concerned, he might have the best look and entrance of any jobber in the business

    • @TitoMcFadden
      @TitoMcFadden 3 года назад +1

      Well me from the future is elated about how it turned out. First a 60 minute broadway, then they have a rematch with judges that would determine the winner in case of a draw. It was a great introduction and nice red herring because Danielson put Hangman over clean in around 30 mins. after an absolute war. Both of them look like next level badasses and Page's title reign has been legitimized with 1 feud. You can't book it any better. It's simple. Simple is good sometimes.

Until now, I believe NJPW was out-pacing anything US wrestling had to offer, but this PPV was a turning point. I still think NJPW is the gold-standard of pro-wrestling in the world today but, AEW made a serious push last at being just that as well. Almost every single match was fantastic & the culmination & execution of the Hangman storyline was pulled off beautifully. I don't know where AEW will go at this point, but I am "All In," lol. Seriously, they've got me excited about pro wrestling again & all I can do is thank them for that. Fantastic show.
