I hope that all of these Welsh youngfellahs have a good run.......Even as an Irishman ........they deserve reward for the courage they've shown up to now and we've nothing against our fellow Celts!
I really enjoy your wonderful knowledge of players. You can hear and see your love for the sport regardless of which country anybody hails. I really enjoy listening to you maybe it's your accent also even though I'm a paddy. Thanks lad
Yeah, his story is so interesting. Brought up in Ireland, then passed over by the Leinster academy, in farness they have a good few players coming through. Then he ups sticks and moves to NZ, joins the crusaders and wins multiple Super Rugby titles. Crazy story
Oli came up through the Irish Rugby school system. Went to NewBridge and changed to Blackrock College, because his da was strength and conditioning coach there. sure the same with Tadhg Beirne, he graduated from Leinster academy, only got 4 or 5 caps off the bench and moved on. Jeremy Loughman and Oli Jager both played together in Blackrock College, now both play together in Munster. Leinster is a hard place to break into. But I wish we could build up Connacht and Ulster more, too.
This must be the goal of the irfu, but like ireland transitioning within the team, it can't be at the detriment of the L & M. There is enough talent in ireland to be fully utilised by all.
In fairness, Ulster have been spinning gold into straw for a while now. They've been miss managing and underdeveloping their own players for a long time now. Lots of potential stars that have had their shine coached out of them.
Frawley has been playing 15 more at Leinster and Farrell has had him training at 15 in the Irish camp, while also easily able to cover 10 if Crowley gets injured, wishing him all the best on Saturday and the same for Oli Jager and great to see Ireland getting more dept in both positions. No doubt the Welsh lads are up against a very strong Ireland and I have no doubt the young Welsh side will play their socks off and make a game of it. Looking forward to having the craic and a pint or three with our Welsh cousins this weekend and wishing Scotland the very best in the Calcutta cup
Thanks again for a great assessment. Farrell's ability to transition player's is very well considered atm. He does it without being detrimental to the system. He pushed it hard on italy & it faltered for 15min but he stabilised it with jgp. Casey not on the bench this week. The wc thought faz a valuable lesson in that regard. No sport affords coaches complacency. I think farrell & gatland know this better than anyone & they are masters of learnings. This will rekindle the healthy rivalry between these two sides. Irelands advantage currently, but only just for a year or two. Really looking forward to it.
Great comment, thanks. Yes, you do get the sense there is a friendly rivalry there. I'd say that Farrell is definitely maturing as a coach and focused on everyone getting better, including himself.
You mentioned former starting players being unhappy with being placed on the bench or dropped entirely and I think its likely that Farrell is taking Rassie's view on the bench to heart, developing secondary and tertiary players who have similar strength to the best in the team and conditioning everyone to view the bench not as a source of shame compared to starting, but as a source of impact where you keep players either tactically or physically capable of taking a game in the balance and winning it. A squad of 23, not 15 (and those other guys).
Yes, that's a great point. The way SA approached the last World Cup, in terms of squad play, must have had an impact on other nations. I think you are right, particularly in Ireland's case.
I don't think Frawley (also known as Farly!) should switch to 15 by choice. I think he is not suited for it and too slow. However I think he's at least a good a 10 as Harry Byrne and potentially as good as Crowley. I think he's getting kind of shafted at Leinster, but it's also his own fault for staying there and being willing to slot in wherever.
Haha, yeah AKA Farly. I'm developing a complex about saying his name I think. Do you think he should leave Leinster? He is like 3rd choice at 10 there isn't he.
@@RugbyMerlin Seems to be, I don't know why he's behind Harry Byrne, don't really rate him. He is going nowhere at Leinster and should definitely leave imo, might already be too late to properly salvage his career. He has potential to be a really good 10 but needs games.
After the crimes against rugby we've seen ulster commit over the last two seasons, they're lucky to have any representation at all. Stockdale has fallen off a cliff and Henderson is passed it.
Something is very wrong with Ulster rugby these days. Stockdale was a huge talent and his form is nowhere near what it was. Why is that? Has to be the coaching they are receiving which isn’t working.

Cheers. I think we'll have our moments, and no doubt it will be the biggest game of many of their young lives.

I really appreciate that. Cheers!
Oli jager was actually brought up in Ireland went to the same school as BOD.

@@RugbyMerlindon’t know why more players find leave Leinster ?
So many players , leave and make a name for yourself if you’re good enough.
His Mum is Irish and Dad Dutch, lived in Ireland from age 1. Odd accent nut you get that with the mix he's had
Ireland are showing their respect to Warren Gatland.
No doubt. Also, an eye on next weekend's match, I think.

More ulster players please
Why a free pass for Ulster players? They have to play themselves in like everyone else. No special privileges any more, sorry.
The days of tokens are gone. You did what Scotland did bringing in too many SAFFas Nd local players left. Haven't you loads of leinster boys?

Did you have a few sherbets before you made this video?? 🙂

Oli did it back to front. Left itish rugby. Went to NZ played Crusaders. Now. Hes home but to Munster. Hes another leinster boy
Yeah, I was impressed by his story. Passed over by the Leinster academy and then goes off to NZ. Must really love his rugby.
@@RugbyMerlin he held his spot at Crusaders . He's one to watch bro
