So, I just finished watching both parts of this series... well done. Being on a pond or lake, in a boat, is one thing... being on waters that challenge you, is something different. Well done, to all, Sir Nick... educational, informative and practical. As always, much appreciated, Sir Nick and Marianne, and our facilitator.
Excellent Marianne, it is only a matter of practice , regarding this course i don't like to sound big headed but because we used to own a speed boat and i used to water skiing a lot, a man in the water was a common thing, i am talking late 60 early 70, so the person in the water used to hold the ski upright so he can be seen, and also going round the person in the water to give him the line to catch.
Again, well done Marianne, took me ages to see the float device when practicing “person” overboard in the films. Even dropping anchor isn’t as simple as it sounds. Having watched these you would be mad to get a boat and just go at it without some form of instruction / training first. You took to it like the proverbial duck to water!
I completed my RYA Powerboat Level 2 today🎉 Nick, many thanks to yourself and Marianne for this excellent resource and showing us the details of the course. Cheers from Northern Ireland!
Brilliant series Nick and congratulations to Marianne. I do hope that after all you do for the yachting industry that either Princess or Sunseeker would generously offer you one of their "modest" 50 footers. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
well done. Here in Germany we need separate licenses for Inland-waterways and Coastal cruising. The tests are quite similar, but the coastal test is a bit more work. You have to pass a theoretical test, with navigations and multiple choice questions. These are different for both licenses. then you have to pass a practicle test where you have to hold course, turn in three actions, man over board maneuver, tie slip in, slip out and so on...an you have to show 6 out of 8 different knots. Without license we are limited to 15 HP-engines...and of course we need another test for VHF inland and another for VHF coast and another test for using pyros...Germany, the country of law and order :-) ...sorry for any mistakes --- just a bloody german :-)
Great to see this, Nick. You must be very proud of Marianne for doing this so well, with an audience looking on..! Just needs her VHF ticket and she’ll be taking SB2 all over the South coast! 👍🏻👏🏻
Congratulations Marianne on the successful rescue of Francis Fender that's the ticket no bouy left behind lol . Hats off Nick this has been very informative with all of your production skills coming up trumps love your work ,well done that man .
Congratulations Marianne! Just a quick point, on your "Man Overboard", you turned anticlockwise initially which caused your spotter to take their eyes off the target. Apologies if I sound picky but if you can maintain visual contact with your target all the better.
Awesome that you took the time to show us this stuff, I live in Australia so Im sure there is a difference in some maritime legislation. But nonetheless, there is virtually nothing as well filmed and as enjoyable to watch as this video for how to manoeuvre and skipper a boat in Australia. We need an Aussie Nick! But this was great haha!
In the nicest possible way, Seb does look like Hugh Dennis in these thumbnails, although Hugh would've tapped Marianne on the shoulder and quietly said, I've got news for you, MAN OVERBOARD!! 😆👍
A soon as they said man over board thought poor Nick. Lol. Great job Maryann. Pretty soon you will need to get your own toy and race Nick. I really enjoyed this one very informative
That was so cool to watch, really helps with the daydreams lol👍. So maybe smugglers blues 3 may be a ribeye nine41? 😁 I can't not mention the churchil dog, everybody hanging on? Oohh yes 🤪👍 Thanks so much for this vid and well done Marriane 👍
I did my PB2 and PB Advanced and found the RYA course to be a joke. On the advanced course I was with people I wouldn't want to be in the same ocean with but they all "passed with flying colours" even thought some had no comprehension of chart plotting, secondary ports, or even how to control a 5m RiB. It made a mockery of the whole course. No one failed.
Could you do a short video on how those floating dock things work? Great vid, love this series! Thanks for the shot from the dock. It's easy to see what direction the motor is turned and how it effects the boat. Great Job!
When I did my PB2 in Weymouth/Portland we used to shout "powering up" when increasing the throttle to make sure everyone was holding on tightly...loved it. Haven't been in my boat for about 4 yrs and confidence is low. May ask for a refresher course 🤔
Awesome, thank you. We have done our powerboat level 2, once we have our boat survey and sea trail all positive we will be booking the advanced course in our boat. Have you got any advice on the battery side of things? many say get a 3rd marine battery, get an inverter? Shore power lead is it best to have metered or not? Now we pulling our hair out trying to choose what berthing packing with MDL if you have any advice for newbies in this department, we would welcome it. We live 2 hours from the coast and plan to use most weekends weather permitting. We love your videos and find them super helpful and informative.
Great to see this powerboat course, being a sailor myself. Perhaps it wasn’t possible but I would have liked to use my own boat for the course and not a rib?
When rescuing man overboard, would it be better to approach facing into the wind? As this is a constant force on the bow which you can increase/decrease the throttle into, rather than approaching from the side where the wind may disrupt the course of the boat.
Not really. Being side to shields the casualty from the prevailing sea state, waves wind etc should they be unconscious / injured and dont forget your engine is off as the prop makes a good floating human blender.
depend not only by the wind but also from waves and sea drag , usually less dangerous is upwind from the side not the bow or stern, steering gently to avoid propellers in a large circle
Good luck with the course I just picked up 2 things the instructor didn't say 1 was with a person overbroad you should turn into the side they fell off so the prop doesn't hit them and 2 wasn't sure but did he say you should come from down wind of the person in the water so they drift on to you to me it looked like you was drift on to them.
Great couple of taster vids for anyone thinking about doing a PB2. Thoroughly recommend people think about doing one where ever they're located. Just had a quick glance at the website, can see skippered rib charters,do you know if Torquay Water Sports have any plans to do un-skippered rib charters for PB2 holders in the future Nick?
Enjoyed both episodes of this, Well done Marianne. I did my PB2 on the River Mersey, four "persons" and instructor to a RIB. Then followed up with the short range radio op course. PB2 is up to 10mtrs, is there a course for over 10 mtrs?
Yeeouch you took to this so quickly! Serious question: when you pilot these super speedy boats, are you strapped in to the seat? Seems like you should be!
Ok, Ill do the best I can. The chime is the ‘ridge’ or ‘v’ along the centre of the boat which keeps it stable. When you initiate a turn, the chime digs in, grips the water and allows the boat to turn. Chime lock occurs when the chime does not ‘dig in’ or ‘grip’ the water, essentially resulting in the boat continuing at that speed and direction, no matter the engine input. Which can very obviously result in a very dangerous situation if you are steering to avoid something for example. It can often happen if the hull of the boat is poor designed or if specific circumstances align resulting in the water aerating - similar to when the propeller cavitates.
Wonder women Now i thought when he said man overboard you would have thrown Nick over & then rescued him being as he likes swimming in those waters as the videos show.😎😁
Congratulations Marianne, really well done. And well done for the training Hugh Dennis !! Xxxxxxx
😁
Well done Marianne 👍
Big congratulations Marianne!!! 👏 🎉 🥳

It's just fantastic Nick Sir and Marinna Ma'am.. Views are just unbelievable..

Good work, Marianne.
25:12 nice to see you taking the boat for a walk Nick.
Like leading a horse, all proud and unencumbered.
Many thanks for this mini-series Nick. Brings back gr8 memories!!
My pleasure!
Great to see this, Nick.
You must be very proud of Marianne for doing this so well, with an audience looking on..!

Well done Marianne! Really enjoyed this style of video from you... more please!
Well done Marianne, top job.
Hi Nick and Marianne. Well done. Great video thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done Marianne (y) !!!!
Congrats Marianne.
So good to watch - thank you. Very entertaining :-)
Well done Marianne! He seems a good instructor. I'm doing my RYA PB Level 2 next week, so this has been interesting to see!
Best of luck!

Great job Marianne nice to see Nick isn’t having all the fun 😂🇨🇦
Great job Marianne! Rochelle loves your hat!
I very much enjoyed watching this video. This is something I would like to do. Only problem I live near the North Norfolk coast!
In the nicest possible way, Seb does look like Hugh Dennis in these thumbnails, although Hugh would've tapped Marianne on the shoulder and quietly said, I've got news for you, MAN OVERBOARD!! 😆👍
You are a quick and competent learner marianne, well done!
@Marianne credit where credit is due marianne 👍
Well done marianne , Nick is going to have to look out ,you could be the new captain of the boat 😂🤞
Congratulations Marianne a job well done, now it’ll be a race to SB2 to see who gets in the drivers seat
Ah was waiting for the more “fun” part of the PB2.
Great work 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Could you please do a quick video about radio protocol. Keep up the good work
Thats so interesting, big well done 👏
Thank you! 😃
Good job Maryanne.
Well done Marianne! Clearly a natural.
Nick, you do realise you're going to be fighting to get the helm now, don't you!
Another great video, Nick. Top instructor too.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very well done marianne
Well done Marianne
Was waiting that Marianne throws you over board for a proper MoB Maneuver :D :D
😳
Congratulations and well done 👏👏👏 I enjoyed this
Soon, it'll be the Admiral who tucks himself away with a good book while Marianne is at the helm.
Aye Aye Cap'n Marianne! You go girl!
So Marianne is now all set up for a school holiday job crewing that Rapter RIB you had on the channel a week or two back 🤠

Smugglers*
@@mattjohn5053 bloody predictive text.
@@thekitowl yep that bloody proactive toxedo 😂😆👍
Captain Marianne and a muscle rib. Take that Smuggler's Blue 2! =)
So one more day before Nick buys you a bottle of bubbly for a pass and then hides the keys to Smuggler Blues 2!!

I was disappointed Nick didn't volunteer to be the man over board. Where's your commitment to realism and safety, man!
It's COLD! 😣
They have just lifted the Covid-19 restrictions here in Nova Scotia. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my licence soon. Thanks Marianne.
Awesome, good luck!
Great teamwork :)

Great to see this powerboat course, being a sailor myself. Perhaps it wasn’t possible but I would have liked to use my own boat for the course and not a rib?
well done Marianne! Must've been a pain having Nick filming you? LOL
Fantastic video again. And well driven
Glad you enjoyed it
Just noticed that Marianne and instructor have colour coded lifejackets. Betting that you find a rib somewhat more lively to handle than Nicks SB2.
So will Marianne be doing the boat tours now Nick?
😲
Could you make a tour of a sunreef 80 catamaran
When rescuing man overboard, would it be better to approach facing into the wind? As this is a constant force on the bow which you can increase/decrease the throttle into, rather than approaching from the side where the wind may disrupt the course of the boat.
No because as soon as you stop, you'll be blown away from the casualty and you'll be approaching with the highest part of the boat.

Have you done any other qualifications? Such as Day Skipper, Coastal or Yacht Master? Certainly looked like a fun day out!
That was great 👍
Will this cover VHF use and navigation at some point?
Navigation, but not VHF (seperate course and licence)

Soon it'll be "Cap'n" Marianne - one step closer to wandering the Seven Seas - Aaarrrggg.
The next time Nick drops a camera down in the berth when Cap'n Marianne is taking her beauty nap, she'll make 'im walk the plank 😂
Any tips Marianne, I'm about to do my pb2 on the 11th of July in Plymouth. Good Job, have you used your new found skills yet?
Looking at doing this course soon as restrictions allow, is there any company's in the east sussex area you would recommend ?
I'm not familiar with the area, might be worth checking the RYA web site.
Amazing :)
Yeeouch you took to this so quickly!
Serious question: when you pilot these super speedy boats, are you strapped in to the seat? Seems like you should be!
No. No need at all.
What about VHF or rya first aid Nick ?
When we teach man overboard we use a dummy constructed from old fenders, warp and a wetsuit. We call him Bob.
Appropriate! 😄
do we need to take this powerboat course to use a yacht?
That depends where you are using it
@@AQUAHOLIC ocean. Not inland

Great job Marianne now all you need to do is take over the channel lol
I think Marianne is very close to piloting a cigarette boat off the coast of Cannes.
Where are you that you need a license to drive a boat?
They don’t, but it’s nice to have .
👍👍👍👍👍
Fly Marianne! You might have to get a faster boat for Marianne.

Great video you have a great wife I just have one question how bad did you want to drive hahaha love you videos
