Being unable to save himself is a large point of Mac's music that he touches on often. Throughout his music he breaks his own problematic behaviors with a surprising level of self-awareness but constantly touches on the fact that he doesn't know how to correct it. His two latest projects were Swimming and Circles, meant to be a play on Swimming in Circles which relates to his inability to keep himself clean/correct his troubled mental health. I will forever love Mac's music for his honesty and the way he essentially self diagnoses many of his issues. Miss him so much

You absolutely hit it on the dot. I will also forever love his music and appreciate how much he evolved and opened up. It's hard to hear his struggles when I've dealt with or am dealing with shit myself. But who isn't. We always do our best to navigate this world with the hand we were dealt. That's it.

Mac Miller is a case study. And it's beautiful. He was constantly evolving. Each album is different. Self Care was off of his last album that was released when he was alive. He also has one posthumous release which isn't much rap at all. There's so much to unpack with Mac. It's really a beautiful story of self-discovery. Lots of metaphors. Just a regular kid from Pittsburgh that loved making music. He played a lot of instruments and produced a lot of stuff, too.

Not a psychedelic. This refers to tranquilizers such as xanax. "I don't move my feet when I be gliding" means he's not even conscious of the fact that he's moving and it just feels like he's sitting still. I can actually relate to this with the few times I used it. In one situation I completely fucked my car up and wasn't even aware of it until the next day. Psychedelics are the opposite. You become, on psychedelics, WAY too aware of where you're going to the point that it drives you temporarily insane. But in my opinion, it's a healthy insanity, so long as it isn't visited too frequently.
Cite: Psychedelics are my drug of choice and I've done almost every drug except heroin meth crack and pcp.

No one else can tell him that
in his own oblivion it’s hard for anyone to help him but himself

  • @cheehee808_

As a former opiate addict, that switch in beats reminds me exactly of when I would be fiending then finally cop a fix. That vibe, It's almost euphoric in that release (cause youre hurtin in withdrawals) and then you fix up and you're so fcked that everything else doesn't matter. Like you know it's bad for you but it feels good in the moment so its acceptable. Pretty sure that's what he's referring to when he's talking about being in "oblivion"

    • @mangofarm123
      @mangofarm123 Год назад +2

I always felt that with this song, that the beat switch was the drugs hitting finally, and before that he was sober and in mental agony. "It's safe in here, there's still a war outside," always hits me hard as a recovering addict. Inside the small world of the high it seems so safe at the time, reality (the outside) seems like a warzone of fear and mental anguish, the drugs tell him it's a war outside, so he can keep using. In the music video after the beat switch, there's destruction going on around him, but he doesn't care coz he's hight, nothing else matters. That's how I used to feel

The 2nd part of the song is about psychedelics and the fact that in the grand scheme of things nothing matters and we're just a spec in time so live your life and remember you die. In the video he carved remember you die in the casket he was in and broke out of. This reality is just oblivion and energy dancing through itself. We're all just the universe observing itself nothing more or less

  • @jdpratt33

This song was about his battle with addiction in my opinion. Climbing over that wall was the wall of sobriety but the height was too tall so he fell back into addiction, the medicine be on call was referring to how easy it was for him to get drugs. The Gliding line most likely referenced him being high. Check out What’s The Use on Swimming album.

To me “I don’t move my feet when I be gliding” is a play on him being “gliding, flying, high” but not actually, physically moving. He’s feeling stationary.
This is has a double meaning, one of the more literal “I’m high, flying (on drugs), sitting here in this physical environment: on a couch, in the studio, etc.”
    And,
“I move, progress, ascend in one dimension (music in Mac’s case), but feel stagnant, stuck in another (mental health)”

Faces would be an amazing album for Tom stevens to dive into Mac millers family just allowed it to be re mastered and out on RUclips and Spotify for everyone. It’s definitely an album that’s shows the progression he’s had and begins to experiment and open up about his feelings. Mac didn’t care if the sound was mainstream. It’s kind of a goodbye album a love note to his success. Basically saying look I’ve made it but also really opening up about his addictions for this first time. Personally my favorite album!

7:14 the meaning to "i dont move my feet when I be gliding" means how he lets life take him where he thinks it should and have fate decide his way. I also think it might mean when he goes out drunk all the time and can't see where he is driving. even in his hometown when he's high and drunk off of substances it'll still make it challenging for him to come back to his actual home.

As a psychology student and massive music fan i've found your videos most interesting, especially the Juice Wrld videos as I've recently discovered him and have been trying to work out his demons and how they relate to my own experiences past and present. You backed up and at times filled in gaps in what i've been learning.
Mental health and music go hand in hand so a very interesting combination to see picked apart.
Would love to see some Radiohead covered, especially older tracks like Creep or Paranoid Android (the latter would be more interesting as the music as well as lyrics say a lot about the singer/songwrite Thom Yorke's mind). Nothing as painfully obvious as JW but the pain is very much there in a more subtley expressed way.
Please keep it up, these videos can teach people a lot, especially those who might listen to some of these songs as a way to deal with or identify their emotions. It could teach someone the lessons they need to learn to stay safe or seek help.

The intro paragraph is all about how high he is. He's hitchhiking but going no where. He could fly home by just closing his eyes because he is so high he literally could imagine it. Hes not hiding or moving his feet yet he is gliding, sliding, and rolling out. He is so high that he is everywhere, nowhere, and right there having never physically left. Its not the self care we all would have loved for him to find but its the self care he knew.

The thing I take away from this song is that: life and all its difficulties will always way a toll on you, and you can go out, on an adventure, distract yourself "hitch hike" and glide through society through whatever means you have, such as drugs. This is the self care we do to distract ourselves from whatever is hurting us. And we may get lost out in oblivion, and stray to far in the distraction we have made, but at least we know we can always head back home eventually, but the longer we are stuck out there... the more closed our eyes and our mind becomes, making it difficult. And when we return to life's difficulties at least we know that it's a beautiful feeling out there in oblivion where we can be care free. Don't let oblivion become too addictive, climb over that wall!

"I don't move my feet when I be gliding." I can tell you what that means to me. Gliding is just gliding through life, taking things leisurely. I don't move my feet, that's an inconvenience. I just sit back and allow life to happen to me. I glide, I slide. I get places, but I don't make an effort in doing so. I think this aligns well with the front half of this song, since he is talking about doing "self care", but what he's really doing is just taking life easy. He's being nice to himself. Whether that is truly 'self care' is the question.

Another great reaction, you are rapidly becoming my favorite RUclips channel lol. This is not even scratching the surface of mac Miller. I highly recommend more if his music. Some particularly good ones for this channel might be :
    - perfect circle/ Godspeed
    - here we go
    - good news
    ..and so many more.
    Keep up the good work!!

This is probably not the definition, but it is my interpretation: :”I don’t move my feet when I be gliding” I think it could mean that when Mac felt he was progressing in life, he was looking around and thinking/reflecting. It could also mean that when he is high/gliding he is stuck at the same spot/doesn’t move his feet.
I appreciate you reacting to Mac. He is a big inspiration for me, so I always find it interesting to se other peoples interpretations of his music

When he says self care. He means he’s taking drugs to treat himself and oblivion is him trapped in his mind. He’s saying he could spend all that time in his head but what good does that do him.

This whole album is about his addiction. The beat change is symbolic of him getting high and being in oblivion, the best thing that has happened to him but also his ultimate end. Gliding means he is high. Home is where he is when he gets high and the hitchhiking means that he doesn't care how he gets to the destination. He ended up dying over the pressed pill. He would do whatever it took to get high, the destination. There is more, but imma leave it at that. RIP dont trip, life can be hard, but we can make it

Mac is saying that he can see himself dead from the lyrics "I could fly home with my eyes closed but it kinda hard to see, that's no surprise though" and he is saying that you can find him easily at his funeral " And you can find me, I ain't hiding" and lastly for "I don't move my feet when I be gliding and I just slide in and then I roll out" that's when he is buried.

Listen to Circles by Mac not the album but the actual song. It’s really short, shorter than what Mac usually does because he passed before he could finish it. But the little amount he got was so touching you could honestly hear how troubled he was with his substance abuse and how he couldn’t stop even though he tried. I’d love to hear you break it down please!!

Then I roll out - he gets high

I think Mac is saying his form of “self care” is “hitchhiking” aka doing dangerous things (drugs) and not knowing where he will go or if he will make it out alive. Then it switches to the oblivion part of the song because he’s saying he ended up in oblivion..way out there and not able to come back. I would love your analysis on Mac Millers song - “yeah”. Thank you for the reaction, it was great!

On his breakout project KIDS (titled after the movie and changed to the acronym Kickin Incredibly Dope Shit) Mac talked about the wall being his rise to fame saying that he’s going to reach it and go over it. Now he’s saying the wall was too tall and his own demons have lead him to fall back down.

The music video not the lyric video makes the most sense with the lyrics. He's digging his way out of a coffin after etching Memento Mori (remember that you will d*e) in the underside of the coffin before breaking free and unburying himself. Very metaphorical and really upsetting foreshadowing.

by the way your right with this being a hidden message in his music. in the lyrics "climbing over that wall yes I remember
    yes I remember
    yes I remember it all
swear the heights be too tall so like september I fall."
its a reference of Ariana grandes song reference where in the song "my favorite part" it divides them both with 2 walls. meaning he's too far gone to save himself for her.
    furthermore,
"its feeling like you hot enough to melt yeah,
can't trust no one cant even trust yourself, yeah
I love you I dont love nobody else, yeah"
hot enough to melt part meaning part of drug withdrawals and not being able to control himself with substance abuse. While still reminiscing his past relationship with Ariana. one more thing. if you check out the music video you will see he carves "memento mori" in the coffin. in Latin in means "remember death" symbolic for remember you must die. then at the end of the video he explodes out of the coffin flying up then down after breaking free. but sadly true to "like september I fall" part he died in september over apparent drug overdose.

“I don’t move my feet when I be glidin’” -
I take that as he feels like he’s gliding when he’s just sitting back and he’s high. Not physically moving, but moving through a mental adventure.

How I see some lines in Self care is: "I could fly home, with my eyes closed. But it be kinda hard to see, that's no surprise though" - when you're so high you can imagine yourself flying home (with your eyes closed) and it would be hard to see because it's in his trip. Also the reference to oblivion in the ending parts imo means the "thoughtless" state whilst using drugs, aka being in oblivion. ^^
