    My plan for the year is to shoot a lot of easily repeatable scenes based on some broad, and pedestrian themes, on film amd digital. Just getting the practice in, and documenting the same locations over time in different situations.

    I own the Yashica and also the Pentax 67 and can tell you, that almost everyone agrees to a portrait if you ask. With the Pentax, which is not hard to miss if you have it in your hand, people literary stop me to have a look at it or ask for a photo (It's just a cardio session to haul it around :) ). Good luck with your goals and portraits, hope to see some of it soon!

    Hi from Finland, I got in to photography as a hobby 2008 when i was living in Dublin, I pre- ordered Panasonic G1 2 lens kit from Bermingham Cameras. This year i got my first 35mm SLR Ricoh KR 5 to learn B&W film photography including developing and dark room printing, on the digital side in am going to spend more time on ICM photography and macro.

    I really want to push myself to take more portraits on the go as well, but have the same hangups. The past year I've mostly trained by taking snapshots of friends and the results are def some of my favorite photos of the year.
    My 4x5 is still waiting for some parts, but then I also have the same goals as you haha

      Best advice I can offer is to take rejection gracefully. I don't remember the potentially wonderful photos I wasn't able to take a few months ago, just as I will eventually forget the people who said no today. Oh, and learning from Ribsy, start with a smile and genuine compliments!
      What parts are you waiting for?

      @@Shaka1277 Ribsy showing us how he approaches people is just fantastic. I love that the technical bits of film and old cameras are not the focus of his videos (anymore). The waist-level finder putting people at ease was eye-opening to me. I think some people will also enjoy the pre-show when you use a handheld lightmeter.
      I'm building a 3D printed folding 4x5 mostly for the sake of doing it. It's the "scalable field camera" by Edgar Kech, if you're interested. Mostly I'm missing bellows and a groundglass still, but I just kinda haven't gotten around to finishing it and probably won't be using it anyway until spring comes around.

      I feel that, my problem is that I either lack the right setup to just click and shoot to capture it or I am too shy to actually snap pictures of people.

    Nice! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the SL66. Thinking my main goals will be go out to photograph at least once a week and finish up two projects Ive had for a little while.

    My goal is to try more alt processes, I've been trying some direct positives on paper lately which is very fun, but I also want to try some cyanotypes and other weird things

    Your video on crossprocessing Phoenix 200 inspired me to give it a try as well. With overexposing by 2 stops and using a warming filter. Did you have any thoughts afterwards on how you would change the approach if you were to repeat it?

    One of the issues I have faced last year was getting too much gear. I have a total of 5 working medium format cameras plus all of my 35mm cameras and my 110 camera. I was in the search for the perfect medium format camera and all it lead to was me shooting less and less. Choice fatigue really got to me and lead me to be less creative with my time and cameras like I once was before when I only had a few. You showing that rollieflex 6x6, I might just have to add another medium format to my collection 😅

      Same, sometimes i feel bad for not using a certain camera and start shooting a roll with it just to then let i lay in there for weeks🫤

      @Shaka1277  9 месяцев назад +2

      Same. That's why I'm currently one-in-one-out so I don't end up with gear I don't use.

    Street stranger portraits, something I do a lot of and I love the interaction I have with complete strangers, many of my street portraits have also been shot on film. Myself and Brendan Comey are running a workshop at the Dublin Street Photography Festival, the emphasis will be on street portraits shot on film. I'm usually around the streets of Dublin on my free days.

      I'm on the waiting list for that workshop. :) People like you and Brendan are part of why I felt motivated to push myself to do this!

    Where did you send the rollei for repair? And did it work?

    • @Shaka1277
      @Shaka1277  7 месяцев назад

      I sent it to Hans Klinkhamer in the Netherlands. Much quicker and cheaper than I had expected.

    Nah! I have no such lofty goals.
    I am a beginner and amateur, so I will photograph anything and everything I can.
    I do want to get (or rather will be getting), the Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar@ T* f/4-120 mm for my Hasselblad 503cx. I've got 2 lenses for the 503cx, so far, but this makro lens will be great fun for close-ups and other portrait-styled photos.
    In the second half of 2024, I might search out and buy the Mamiya C330. It isn't very popular, but I like it's heft and solid build quality.
    That's it, no more. I don't want the G.A.S to get me.
