The Strayborough Deadwalk feels like whomever was designing it said "Man, I really made two of the worst-feeling bosses ever. Let's throw them a bone with one of the best of all time."
Difficulty is relative to education in FF14, so I’m cool with any mechanic so long as the dungeon before hand teaches me “hey when the boss comes they will probably use this mechanic. You know this because I’m using a smaller version of it”. However, if that’s not there or it’s obvious there’s no way to dodge I generally get pissed.
Lenogg is actually a great way to teach people that sometimes losing uptime, or removing focus from DPSing is more valuable than being hit by a mechanic. Would you rather take the root, damage, vuln, and ability lock of the walkers grabbing you, or would you rather step away from the boss for a second or two. Its wonderfully designed and its also frankly, hilarious.
Alexandrian had me screaming because I had to solo one boss as a PLD. I felt empowered, but also I have no damage lol. Tender Valley is just Ravel but in the Source, change my mind. Strayborough is annoyingly fun. Like I hate and love it, so much that I go in excited to ace the mechanics, but end up getting molly whopped 😂 10/10 love the expert dungeons lol
It's called expert dungeon for a reason and that's great! I also wish they keep them on expert since it won't make much sense to have these more difficult dungeons randomly show up on high-level roulette
new dungeons trials raids everything has been so much fun. really looking forward to the upcoming savage tier and really intersted in what they do with Criterion in this expac going forward. If the increase in quality of the content translates to the varient dungeons, I think a lot more people will be interested/partake in it- thats my hope atleast. great video as always, supr cool to hear ur thoughts on all the new stuff o7
The direction with content in DT so far has been great. Everything in EW was so pitifully easy that I think if I didn't get into raiding I'd have dropped the game, or least not do anymore than story content. I hate the first boss of strayborough for the reaosn you said, moving objects in 14 just don't work well together but i also don't want the boss nerfed. Its a pain but you can learn it and learn to do it extremely well. Alexandria is my favorite of the expert dungeons thus far and I hope they keep they difficulty of these dungeons for future ones. I 100% agree with you, I hope they do not cycle out the previous expert dungeons when they add new ones, allowing expert roulette to have variety will go a long well in keeping it enjoyable. Just let expert mean any dungeon that's the "high level" of that expansion.
Deadwalk 1st boss, the fact that the pink clothed cat heads will gap close you. You will be trapped by in place by them _before_ their leaping animation even happens much less resolves. so yeah super janky indeed.
I should add, that while I would like to not see the 1st boss nerfed. I would not cry if they did, as long as the boss isn't made less punishing and and mechanic is just made less jank, I would be satisfied. If they did make it less punishing and far too easy I'd be disappointed but accept it.
I don't understand people complaining the content is too hard, you guys are lv 100, you have to go through a shit ton of hours to get here. What? 300+ hours and you guys can't comprehend when its slightly harder? Brooo
Because most of the casual content didn't require to pay attention that much. Could mindlessly beat, even getting hit with few VUL stacks, still live ignoring a few mechanics. Some casual players are so use to that, but even DT casual content has you actually pay attention or die for once so some can't deal with it being such a shock to them lol.
Dawntrail has just been so fucking refreshing with its duties as a whole. It's really injected a load of joy back into the game for me as a boomer player playing since ARR lol.
First strayburough fight should be a savage criterion just because it's just slightly overkill for random expert players. I'd celebrate a small nerf personally just bc it can turn the instance into a hour slog or a leave.
Man, as much as I enjoyed EW, it did water down difficulty. Add that to the new players who haven't experienced the old dungeons before being reworked, and I can easily see ppl thinking these are too hard. Personally, I'm enjoying them, been actually living up to the rez mage title and I love it!
completely agree with you, except i really dont like Alexandria's level of "binary, pass/fail mechanic. I have had roulette's where the healer simply can not stop dying and it took forever.. I know there is a movement within the community calling for easier dungeon content, but im not one of them. As much as some boss mechanics are irritating, they are honestly, mostly great bosses (with the exception of boss1 in straybourough he can diaf, I dont find it fun to lock me out of pressing buttons if I fail... I'd rather the mechanic kill mei if I fail.)
I loved all the duties in DT so far :D I wish I'd get something else than Ghost Carnival, great place right? But I'm so tired of not seeing the others one Q-Q Like I didn't even know Alexandria was a possibility! IVE STILL NOT BEEN THERE AGAIN Q-Q Tender Valley to me is like the ultimate best dungeon, but thats only cause i am a massive Cactuar simp and I love the buff lad too much, I wish for the Minion Drop so bad
The 1st boss at Strayborough Deadwalk is a little bit too much when you need to dodge the ghost catch, the boss red puddle spread and also the chasing puddle at the same time! Yes, it will be getting better from time to time with some practice, but still a bit too much for a 4 man dungeon boss
Strayborough's 1st boss isn't as bad as people say cause the mechanic albeit slightly altered isn't something we haven't already seen before. The 'bullet hell' or 'random bs go' mechanic as it's called have been seen in the Byakko trial, in the Nier raids, other content i can't think off the top of my head, etc. The player base had complained that the dungeons for the last few expansions have been uneventful and not really that exciting. For Dawntrail they release some somewhat mechanic heavy dungeons and all of a sudden people are complaining it's 'too hard'....like give me a break. Learn the fights and try to become a better player, that's all this is. For new players that 'skip' everything and than cry it's too hard, i'm sorry that's more of a you problem not the game. And for veteran players, FF14 is over 10 years old, if you haven't learned or improved over that time, i don't know what to tell you.
3:00 loved this mob. WHM main, was so shocked I actually got to use my auto-heal turret after they're immune to my aoe stun holy spams. Deadwalk final boss is one of my DT dungeon bosses agreed. For uptime, purposely stand in the ghost line aoe half the arena, so ghost tether can move to opposite side while still in boss hitbox as tank/melee. The pink clothed cat heads have a gap closer. But you're trapped by it _before_ it's leaping animation happens sometimes and its like 5 "yalms" or so as well. Agreed way too janky having moving mechanics like for kind of game honestly. Teacup aoes always end up on the opposite side where boss tethers energy into them before they start spinning. 8:08 aurum vale 2nd boss originally didn't have aoe markers. You had to look at their wind up animations to tell at head of time. Monster Hunter trial boss does the same too. But yes I would love more boss fights like that, needing to look at them instead of at the ground for aoes 90% of time.
I had to really guide my party through the Alexandria fight and a couple others. The challenge was definitely upped in normal mode and MAN I am a fan
The Strayborough Deadwalk feels like whomever was designing it said "Man, I really made two of the worst-feeling bosses ever. Let's throw them a bone with one of the best of all time."
As a healer main I cannot express how much fun I've been having in expert roulette, finally I'm not falling asleep anymore.
DT has potential to be the best expac yet once all the content is out
Difficulty is relative to education in FF14, so I’m cool with any mechanic so long as the dungeon before hand teaches me “hey when the boss comes they will probably use this mechanic. its also in reverse
It's called expert dungeon for a reason and that's great! I also wish they keep them on expert since it won't make much sense to have these more difficult dungeons randomly show up on high-level roulette
I totally agree with you! I loved the changes!

I love these dungeons. Its the most fun in dungeons I have had in this game in years.
You know the dungeons are good when you actually look forward to doing expert. Not something I was able to say in EW.
The direction with content in DT so far has been great. Everything in EW was so pitifully easy that I think if I didn't get into raiding I'd have dropped the game, or least not do anymore than story content.

Nah nerf the first Strayborough boss, it has too much jank
Deadwalk 1st boss, the fact that the pink clothed cat heads will gap close you. You will be trapped by in place by them _before_ their leaping animation even happens much less resolves. so yeah super janky indeed.
I feel like a reasonable nerf would be just removing one set of the adds, you'd still keep most of the chaos but it'd be a little more reasonable.
I should add, that while I would like to not see the 1st boss nerfed. I would not cry if they did, as long as the boss isn't made less punishing and and mechanic is just made less jank, I would be satisfied.

honestly, 5 expansions and hundreds of hours in a game, asking the player to be somewhat good at it shouldn't be a big ask at all
Dawntrail has just been so fucking refreshing with its duties as a whole. It's really injected a load of joy back into the game for me as a boomer player playing since ARR lol.

Banger vid 😤

I hate the first boss of Strayborough 😂 but overall expert roulette is better than ever
If anything, I wish expert roulette would like a mini Mentor, just put every single 4 men dungeon there.
And then you Q into Sastasha 4x in a row. As a level 100.
What need to change is keep 3 dungeons in it. Tired of expert being just two dungeons and every new one bumps an old one into the lvl x0 roulette.
I loved all the duties in DT so far :D

The people who don't like Halloweekends at Cedar Point aka Strayborough Deadwalk need to reevaluate their version of fun
I..... did not know Alexandria the actual city was in dawntrail, let alone as a dungeon but now that i saw the thumbnail, i guess i do now.

For real, these complaints can be summed up as: skill issue.
