- So after searching for several months we got a Type R at MSRP.
We found many dealers not only charging 10k and even 20k over. They still play games.
I drove almost two hours to a dealer that promised MSRP, then when it was time to sign in the dotted line, boom. $4000 for floor mats.
Check out the minor OEM plus mod we plan to do and share. First thing was the wing. This happened the day after buying it.

This BS is why I haven't even thought about buying a Honda in the last couple of years. Their dealerships are a disgrace!
Blame the buyers that fall for buying over MSRP. They see people are willing to paid more and take advantage.

I just got a 2024 Si, the MSRP was $31k they had a markup of $6k and after 5hrs of back and forth I got the car for $29k. They are all full of crap.
It really is a game. You just have to play it and have patience

I got my integra type S on the last day of the month for MSRP, 2 weeks before they wanted a markup. The painted wing looks much better
Now that you bring that up, I feel like I’ve seen more Type S at MSRP or a minimal markup than the Type R. Which is interesting because I’m from SoCal and you’d expect all of them to be really high over

Integra type S starting price is close to 10k higher to begin with though..
I found one at MSRP in January of this year, in an area known for crazy markups. These dealerships can ask for 20k over all they want, but no one is paying that anymore. Last day of month is definitely a big factor in landing one for MSRP.
I went to a local Honda dealer and said I was interested in either a new Accord or Civic and the salesperson laughed and started to lead me to the used car lot. No discussion. No explanation. No "we don't have anything but I'll find one for you." I left.
The accord is Honda's worst selling car. The civic makes sense but the accord is not selling at all
It’s a fake story, no salesman laughs in your face and walks you to the used cars without saying anything, it sounded better in your head but in the real world it just doesn’t happen.

Well said John, the whole idea of a dealership is so outdated and unnecessary. There should only be a dealership for service, all ordering should be done online just like Tesla.
Manufacturers would rather collect a check for wholesale cars, parts, etc... than have to establish service centers across America.
i like to test and see my car in person before just putting an order in.
Who's going to update an old system that rips people off and is protected by the government to keep things going. I hope things change but I wouldn't hold my breath. It would be nice if we can vote with our wallet but the demand is there from the upper classes

What you are seeing in the tach is a programmed rev hold in anticipation of upshifting into the next higher gear where that RPM will be an ideal match for the new gear ratio. It's for a rev-matched upshift and most new sports cars have this. It's more subtle than a rev-matched downshift, so many people don't realize it's there or that it's intentional. The rev-matched upshift RPM hold will time out after a second or so, if you don't go into the next gear. This is all inline with the behavior seen in your video. It's not rev hang. You can turn off the rev matched upshifts and downshifts in the infotainment screen, and then you will get a better feel for the actual rev hang inherent in the engine.
I’ll have to play with that. I figured it was programmed in to make it run clean. I know when the throttle slams close the NX gasses go sky high. I’ll play with some of the settings and see if the changes are noticeable. Thanks for the comment
Civic type R and honda dealer experience pushed me away from the brand. bought a used bmw m2 and never going back to honda.
I got one at MSRP back in October at autopark Honda in Cary, NC. Family that owns the dealership will not sell any car above msrp or add extra dealer accessories at crazy prices. Only good for North Carolina residents. I worked with Vinny and he was great. If you live in NC, give them a call. I feel bad for other parts of the country with crappy dealers.

Did install the Hasport upper torque/lower rear mounts with the 62a based on your older video.
Huge improvement.
Added a HDP clutch pedal brace as factory pinch welds are known to crack.
Surprised you never have mentioned the HDP (K-tuned) clutch pedal brace, unless I've missed it
You don’t need half that. Just An intake and the Hondata will vastly improve the driving experience. A tune is not necessary you will be able to improve the throttle response and hang by changing the settings yourself.

I sold my type r 2 months ago. The buying experience was absolutely horrible. Great car just not worth anything above MSRP. I think it’s already overpriced as is.

Luckily GR Corolla’s are pretty easy to find at MSRP now. I was looking at Type R’s as well but finding an MSRP one was substantially more difficult.
i aint buying at msrp. ill just wait for them at the auction and buy under msrp in 2-3 years with low miles
A clean 2017 Type R with 3,000 miles recently sold on Bring a Trailer. Winning bid was 35K. MSRP $34,775... Copart has good deals though.
Even at MSRP, it seems a few thousand dollars too pricey.

Is it me or does this car look like crap? I also hate that is 4 door. I hadn’t kept up with Honda for a while and when that previous model type-r was out I swung into the dealership (I was in a 1990 glass top EF8). I was basically ignored. I found the Type-R they had on the floor and I couldn’t believe how ugly the car was. The front reminded me of a tundra. I did notice the sticker price was marked up over msrp to an absurd level (can’t remember if if was in the 70s or 90s) I did get a moment to ask a question “will you get any 2 door versions?” Once they said there wasn’t a 2 door version I just bounced. Honda and Acura designs just look like ass to me. I’ll stick with old stuff.
Just got my sonic grey pearl for msrp, out here in Northern California where EVERYTHING COSTS THREE TIMES AS MUCH! 😅 love my type r. Congratulations on your new type R! Not a fan of the wing in white tho 😢

I had a local dealer who was selling them for msrp and at the time I wasn’t too serious, then I looked at other dealers within 50 miles and each dealer was marking up 10-20k, I suddenly was interested after realizing how difficult it was to buy a type r since I had a SI and wanted to upgrade. When I went back and was ready to buy one from my local dealer not even a week and they were sold. Suddenly I was super interested and was desperately looking from state to state and everyone laughed when I mentioned msrp, maybe 2 weeks later I got a call from a dealer and I said I wouldn’t work with them if it was over msrp and they bugged me to atleast go and try talking it out, it just happened to be that they where willing to sell it for msrp and accept the trade in value I wanted for my car and I have been enjoying my FL5 type r for now 5 months at 19!

the wing looks wider because of the paint, white or any light color makes objects look bigger while black and darker colors make objects look small.

Honda chose Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for performance. They've been the best all-season tires for many years.
Get a used low mileage Focus RS, its a MUCH better car for half the cost. BTW, if you say the Civic is better, you have NEVER driven a RS, there is NO comparison.
Dealerships are aware of the mark ups. Dealerships have been doing this for yrs
Here in Japan, we don't have any dealer markup at Honda dealership, but we have to wait in the queue or buy used one which is more expensive than brand new. I've been waiting for about 1.5 years, and I have to wait another 2 years to receive my Type R. Anyway, that white spoiler looks good!
I figured you get them before us , being that they are built there. This maybe one of the first Hondas I know of that you guys don’t get a much better version. lol.
5:00 Revhang seems to be since auto rev match is on. It drops to the perfect spot to shift up to third gear and hesitates before going to idle.

Got a civic exl did a trade in for my camry got scammed off the trade in equity value it had and got a markup of 5k when it would have been cheaper ordering online. Still love my car tho, the heated seats auto lock moon roof no gas cap ect. Very convenient dont regret but hate that dealership

I was told by a manager they had a civic ex at MSRP, 100%. Got to the Dealership and there it was at MSRP plus $7500 of add ons.....I ordered one at MSRP no add ons, not even wheel locks, as long as I didn`t discuss the deal and give a rousing YELP review...

I’m a little OG and kinda making it closer to the original ITR. I still think the ITR is leaps above but like I’ve mentioned before, this might be the last best Honda we get. Thanks for your logical sounding opinion, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

Shopped for months, couldn’t find one at msrp so changed my mind.
Be patient and find a dealer last Saturday of the month is possible. Don’t be afraid to call multiple times.
2 of my friends got theirs at msrp. They're out there for sure. Like he says u just gotta be patient and put in the time

Got my Integra Type S at Crown in Tampa while I was down there for work at MSRP in Nov. It was end of the month and they wanted to move the car. It originally had a 5k markup on it. Great buying experience! Look around and don't be afraid to tell them you are interested at MSRP and not a dollar over. They may budge.

Am I the only one who thinks Honda has lost their way in terms of exterior designs? It just looks very funky..... like the profile looks like a weird bottlenose dolphin. I mean, if you put a Ford Taurus badge on it, all the Honda fanboyzzzz wouldn't even take a second look at it I bet, probably call it ugly too. But since it's a Type R..... everyone is oohing & ahhhing like it's the best thing in town. Sorry, I don't mean to offend you as this is just my opinion, but Honda just seem to lost their way with styling unlike their cars from the 90's and early to mid 00's where the cars just look 'right' from every which angle ( you all know what I'm talking about). I'm sure that Type R is a great performing fun car to drive but I just can't get over the looks department. I remember you owning the newer NSX but got rid of it or something? Why not just keep that NSX instead and skip this FL5? Seems like a downgrade to me.
I did buy the NSX new, also I had a GT4 , C8 and others. I buy these cars to get prospective, learn from and most cases profit.
I do have a few 90s and 2000s Hondas which I love. The FL5 is a lot of car in comparison to others and I think may be the last fun Honda we get. No offense taken, all cars are junk in their way, I don’t marry them. Call it what you want, lol. They have out sold all other Type Rs so there’s something people love.
I think in 20 years we’ll look back and wish we had this. You watch. 👍🏻.
Don't blame the dealerships, blame people actually paying the prices. Supply and demand, it's the most basic business concept. I got my 2024 FL5 for msrp, have to be willing to travel or wait.

Now most dealers are charging a ridiculous amount on tint, ceramic coatings, lojacks, third brake light blinkers, and windshield replacement warranties. All a big pile of BS.

I was able to get a GR Corolla at MSRP. A few months after they were released. Everyone near me wanted 20K over so I found one in Oklahoma at no MSRP. And jumped on a list. Ended up getting it once it came in

I really like the painted wing! But what about painting the wing strut/brackets as well? They are easy to swap out if you decide you don't like it.

Ah, Palm Harbor Honda. They’re a crappy dealer. One time my fiancé took her family’s Fit to that dealer. The dealer took possession of the car, backed up into another vehicle on the lot, then tried to blame it on her! Never before have I seen such audacity in my life.
We got the car there for price. The people…..that’s another story. I could make an episode on the F i guy alone 😐
Why I love my Elantra N 6 speed. Wasn't hard to find at MSRP. Over $10k cheaper than Type R. FL5 Type R is awesome for sure and they hold their value well if you get tired of it and plan on selling it.
Elantra will never be worth as much as the type R in 10 years.

I got mine last day of the month last month of the year for msrp. It was sitting on their lot for 6 months. I had to talk them down they laughed me out and got back to me later that month

I wrapped my roof in gloss black PPF to help tie in the rear wing on my CW Type R. Otherwise I would have also had it painted to body color.

Got a Champ White FL5 1 month ago under MSRP. Cool that you are doing car stuff with your son. I wont be color matching mine anytime soon. I like the black/white contrast. I think if i did anything with the wing it would be carbon-fiber but for now I am going to slap an exhaust on and enjoy it stock for a year.

The type r is slow for the money. For 50k you can get an 815hp whipple powered mustang gt warrantied from ford. Unless you just love civics or honda's mark up crap.
Need at least a gt500 to beat a stock fk8 or fl5 around a track, and at the end of the day, it's not even special, just another mustang that needs brakes, suspension, and tires to even hope to keep up with either new model civic on a backroad. Meanwhile once you're at parity, congrats, you've now got a clapped out mustang and instead of being worth 50k, it's more like 20k. A 50k civic is a bad idea, a modern mustang? They dont even let you guys in car meets anymore.
@mikeblystone9688 Oh, you're talking about a track. I'm talking about the freeway. I mean, if you spend more time on tracks than you use the freeway, I guess that would make sense. I have a gla 45 6 is a hot hatch like the civic r, just awd and 100 more hp about the same weight.

That rev hang is wild. My former FK8 nor my current DE5 didn’t have that issue.
That’s for emissions purposes. You can get it coded out if you do an aftermarket tune.

Even in 2017, the FK8 was going getting $20K+ markups. I was lucky to only pay 5K above where I'm at, even though they told me when I pre-ordered it a few month before they released, that they will not do markups, and also were giving me a deal from the mail they sent me for being military. Well neither of those happened. Gotnit anyways, since they threatened to sell it to the next person and also not pay me my $1000 back for pre ordering it. Later on, I gave thmlem such a bad review on their FB in comments to people telling them how they are, and they made me go to them and sign a piece of paper that I wouldn't continue to make them look bad, or they'll have to take the car back. 😂😂😂 Lol. Worst experience ever. They are actually bad though. Not just because I wasn't happy about the lies they fed me and marked it up anyway, but because they do absolutely anything they can to get money from people. Several feiends hate them.
But enough about that. I just got back from a 2 week vacation seeing family in Alabama, and occasionally spending time in Florida. I saw a 2024 Supra and wanted to see it. It was 55K. Talked to the guy for like 30 minutes. No markup. Doesn't like markups. Calls it "legal theft." Since I'm searching for an MK5 Supra at MSRP, I'll be going to mybaunts again. Lol. Over here in Oklahoma, they have the same one, same color and year for $65K. Its not a premium version, and its also not the A91 edition. Just the normal, cheaper 3.0L version.
Yeah, that’s pretty bad, I’ve heard some pretty terrible stories too. It really should be a first come first served deal, not the person with the most money.
The same when I tried to buy the C8 when it came out, a local Chevrolet dealership I’ve already bought at least one new Corvette from, wanted to hit me with a 20 K markup. And they were adamant to get 20 K markup. That left of that taste I won’t even buy Transmission fluid from them now.
@LHTPerformance Yeah they really ruined it for me. It's the closest Honda dealer to me, butbi avoided them for a while, til a friend with his Type R was deployed and his wife can't drive a manual, so I had to pick it up. They did him dirty. Had head gasket issues and then they voided his warranty because he had mods. Told him he had to come get his car. If any damage happens to it (it hails very often if it rains here) then it isn't their fault. He told them he is deployed at the moment, and the guy told him it wasn't his problem and laughed before hanging up. That's when I got the call to pick it up for him.
When I picked it up, I remember the guy from other times I was there, and never liked the way he talks. Buy I listened to him con this wife and husband to have to wait over night to update their navigation on their head unit. Lol. I should have been a good person and be like, "ma'am, I can download the update on my USB flash drive and upload it in 15-30 minutes tops." I really should have.
As soon as he was done with them, I told him I was there to pick my Buddy's Type R. The look on his face said it all. I've never likes that guy since my first visit there.
I can go on about several people's experiences there. They're a joke.

And this is why when people keep talking about WRX's and saying people should just get a Type R... It makes no sense. The price gouging is insane and there are better cars than the Type R for the money they are asking. Anyone that is able to get a Type R at MSRP is in the minority. Toyota is almost as bad as well for gouging
Base price on the wex highest trim is cheaper than type R.
But some standard accessories for type r is optional on a wrx.
Add all standard accessories then wrx is more expensive.
@@AkosiMRswabe the Premium WRX is the best value IMO. Can get it THOUSANDS under MSRP. The tuning potential is pretty damn good is relatively cheap. Fuel econ is not great around town. It still can mostly take the regular Subaru mods like DCCD trans etc, but obviously that costs.
Type R is hell of a car, but those prices... Oof

currently trying to get a mk5 supra in 6mt and first dealer brushed me off after i said i was trading in my evo 8 and said they’d offer me a few hundred for it and i asked him if he even knew about cars. maybe i just look too young.
other dealerships take me more seriously but all have crazy markups, lowest i’ve been offered is 5k over and id have to wait months before the car comes in.
i really hope they do away with dealers, buying my tesla was so easy. if the hyundai-amazon thing works out it’s def for the best

I don't think car dealers have gotten the memo. Its a buyers market for performance cars. Z06 C8 corvettes and Hellcats are available below sticker. Interest rates are not dropping until November at best.
