How To Create a Blueprint Effect in Adobe Photoshop

Today we're going to combine a few simple tools and techniques to produce an old and distressed blueprint effect in Adobe Photoshop. If you're a bit of a whizz with 3D design software, this effect is ideal for creating cool technical drawings for your concept car, spaceship, or even character models. Export views of the front, side and top, and maybe even a wireframe view to combine into a cool presentation.
Alternatively, you could also find some existing real life technical drawings, like my example of an F-16 fighter, or even create the effect from a photograph.

No matter what I try I just couldn't duplicate the step u did in 2:39. The grid just doesn't show up :(
doesnt work for me for the grid pattern.... Could not fill because the target channel is hidden??????
hey there, what would you do if you wanted to make the blueprint have a transparent background? if you wanted to keep the white edges, but remove the black background (need to save this photo as a png and can't use blend modes when not in adobe software?)

Right on time. I'm trying to figure though if I could use this technique to make a graphic that would go on different colored tshirts where the color of the fabric would become the background color. Would this technique work for something like that?
It could indeed, although rather than use the Screen blending mode, you would have to use a Channels selection to clip the background so you can export the artwork with a transparent background. Pro Tip: Use Layer > Matting > Defringe on the clipped layers to remove any dark halos
Finally getting around to actually needing to do this, can you explain how to clip the BG with a channel selection or point me to a tutorial on how it's done please? Thank you.

When I try to change the background to the blueprint color, it just makes everything gray.
Are u sure you are in the rgb or cmyk mode?
i went to say you can press ctrl+y to change but realised this was a year ago... hopefully this helps anyone else scrolling the comments
