My favorite 1970's horror movie is The Exorcist (1973). Great movie and I love the Tubular Bells soundtrack. The Exorcist utilized various special effects that had never been seen before in films. The impact of the movie was so significant that people left the theater crying in fear or fainted. In the Netherlands, there were even cinemas with teams to provide emotional support to people after the film. As a child, I also found the movie scary. I actually miss that as an adult, that a movie can really frighten you. And Carrie (1976) because I had a crush on Sissy Spacek.
I am really interested in The Brood. Never seen it. Brood is the Dutch word for bread, by the way. Pronounced as "brote". So Dutch people might think it's a movie about bread.
The Exorcist and The Omen are classics!!! But Jaws is still the defining nature attacks movie!! I still love it and it’s very frightening that shark attacks still happen!!!
Phantasm is such a horror movie. The plot, the tall man, and the ending terrified me as a kid. The music was so freaking creepy. Surprised your list did not contain The Exorcist.
Found out "The Freakmaker' also went under a couple of other titles - 'The Mutations' & 'The Freaks'. I've never seen it and I managed to snag a copy. I'll check it out. Phantasm was mind blowing and scared the crap out of me when I first saw it. Definitely one of my favs from the 70s but there are so many great horror flicks from that era. Alien is one of my favs of all time, but it's sci-fi horror so slightly different category.
1-Exorcist 2-Suspiria 3-Halloween 4-Texas Chainsaw 5-Dawn of The Dead 6-Black Christmas 7-Phantasm 8-Last House On the Left 9-Noseferatu 10-Play Misty For Me (more of a thriller but Jessica Walter's psycho acting skills are good enough to make you check the locks on your doors at night 😂)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre by FAR. its my favorite Horror movie PERIOD. Halloween being second, Alien the third, id have to think on the rest of em. Zombie is definitely in there too though. but im a MASSSSSSSSSIVE TCSM fan, ive got so much Leatherface stuff its its *INSAAAAAANE!* hahah. By the way Paul, would you like a piece of the road Leatherface did the "Chainsaw Dance" on at the end of the movie? aka Quick Hill Road? its almost entirely gone as of July 2024, but back in May i went there with my brother, filmed and we took some of the ANCIENT Asphalt with us. i got some in a Shadowbox, ive made them for a few of my friends who are also fans, since you're a fan i figured id ask though.
It doesn't have gore because the book was edited for the TV version, but "Bad Ronald" is my favorite horror film of the 70's. I hope TV movies count in your list.

Zombie 1979
It's an awesome movie, one of my favourites, but it in no way is a horror movie. it's a sci-fi monster movie....just like Godzilla.
