- This time around we are CERAKOTING IT ALL. turbos, both projects manifolds, and best of all we're doing it ourselves, relatively cheap in our garage. (only $120.00 if you already have a compressor)
Now the question is how do our results compare to paying up to 250.00 per manifold from a professional applicator? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Came for a diy project on my pistol frame, stayed for the subie home mods. Nice work, beautiful VA and thanks for sharing.
Thank you thank you 🙏🙏
Dude your intro was hilarious! 🤣🤣
But on the real, that cerakote looks amazing!
Yeah figured id make things interesting 😅🤣 Thanks Walter
After watching Tanner and now you do it, I'm really wanting to try the cerakote stuff out. I know it's awesome on pew-pews.
It's honestly really easy to do. I would recommend just using scotchbrite to scuff the surfaces. I shouldn't have wasted time with the sand blasting, just made a mess and wasn't worth the effort. Definitely give it a shot dude 👌
Once I get my build together I’m gonna cerakote it OD Green tiger stripes
The first 30 seconds 😂😂😂 I can’t breath 🤣🤣🤣 thats gold!!!
Also the coat turned out super good!
Thanks dude 👌 yeah figured we'd make a fun intro 😂
The intro was great😂😂
Figured I'd do something a little interesting 😂
You absolutely killed me with that intro 🤣😂🤣
😉😉 figured why not have some fun with it 😆
Bruh the coffee had me ☠️☠️☠️☠️🤣🤣🤣 great content bro
Thanks man, glad you liked it.
I like putting stupid stuff in to break things up 😅😆
Entre para verlo pintar con cerakote no preparar un cafe. Hasta ahi llegue. Segui asi.
Lol the beginning, great video matt!
Loud pipes save lives! or is thick thighs? Anyway, great informative update on you builds!
Haha. Best sounding header I've ever heard 🤣 Thanks Omi 👌
This shit was hilarious 😂🤣…good shit man can’t wait to here what song comes out at first start up😅 Great vid bro keep ‘em coming 🤙🏼
😂😂 thanks dude. Wanted to spice it up a little 👌👌
@@MatlasDI I can see from the comments a lot of guys agree, you got em laughing on that one 🤣
Great video man. I am in Northern Ireland and it is so difficult to find someone that Cerakotes, so seriously thinking of buying a kit and trying it on a few parts of my Kawasaki build. Beautiful Scooby btw!
Thank you man. Northern Ireland, that is awesome! Hope it all goes well for you 🙏
Matthias is a sparkle in all of our hearts ✨♥️✨
You sir, are too kind. 🥰🤣
Matt you 4got to clean up the coffee ☕️ 🤣 good video brother
Phoenix got it for me 🤣
Man, that cerakote turned out looking pretty good!!
Thanks man 🤙
@@MatlasDI how’s it holding up?
@@davek3139 still looks great. No issues. Recommend 3 to 5 coats and cleaning/prep is key. 👌
How much cerakote did you end up using/wasting? I'm torn between 2 4oz testers of different colors, or 1 16oz for my mani/turbo/downpipe.
Nice little by little
Gettin there. Time for reassembly 👊👊
I just glass beaded my headmans for the s10, can't wait to get mine sprayed, I'm just stuk on what color to do! Choices... choices!!! I'm so glad we're I work they have a blaster I can use whenever I want 😜
Oh and the intro was sik AF!
Proper blast cabinet definitely helps. Yeah they make so many colors now it's tough lol. I always like the bronze. Thanks man 😁
Yeah the bronze is my favorite so far, I kinda want something to go with the blue on my truck, but the bronze has kinda stuck, the bronze gives a custom look compared to chrome or black, any other color will come off tacky AF, we don't like tacky! I'm gonna do intake and valve covers, water pump etc... thought about doing a 2 tone on engine, bronze and maybe the satin black, the block is getting Chevy orange as of now, but that may change cause idk how well that will go with that bad ass bronze, may just do black and bronze just to get away from the old school orange, but I'm ol school and old habits are hard to break
@Troy Brake Oh for sure. I think a nice gloss black/matte black and bronze combo would look great for engine theme. 👌
That coat always looks awesome
Yeah I had looked at a few of the other colors they offer but the bronze is always 👌👌
Interesting product, ill definitely be looking into it.
Do itttt, it's super nice, makes me want to cerakote everything 😅
Just a suggestion to anyone. I am cerakoting a bunch of my parts and i went to academy sports bought a 50$ canopy attached drop cloth all around it and out a tarp under it to catch the sand so i could recycle it and hold the mess.
This also served as my paint booth.
Nice tip 🫡🫡
Funny video bro! I have a question about your compressor. I was looking into the same one. Were you able to spray constantly or did it stop and have to refill itself during the spraying?? Thanks!
Thanks man. The compressor had no issues between coats, but these are regulated pretty low for this type of spray, so pretty easy for it to keep up. 👌
Have you guys thought about investing in an inflatable paint booth, could give you better control of your environment. I can't wait to see what you have in store for Chewy.
Would be an awesome idea. May have to look into getting one because I think we're going to do more in the future.
This is hilarious!!
Do you think I could sand my cast iron Speedtech N54 top mount turbo manifold & turbine housing or should I sand blast it with aluminum oxide? Thanks!
They recommend blasting it if possible, but going on almost 2 years and I've had zero issues with any of these parts. No undershield on the car as well. The scotch bright worked well. If you have access to sand blasting or aluminum oxide blasting, then go that route, but at home methods for that make a massive mess..
@@MatlasDI Yeah your stuff came out mint! I don’t know if scotch brute will cut it on cast iron Speedtech manifold, maybe 80 grit sand paper? Or you think red scotch brute pads?
@murk1352 I'd try with the pads made for steel. I think that is red, yeah. 🤙
@@MatlasDI Yeah I think it’ll be fine? 😂 You’re not going to see it, I just wanted to protect it, same with the turbine housing, it will have a blanket on it. I could buy some aluminum oxide & a hand sand blaster. But like you said, that shit will be everywhere! I should have just had Speedtech do it, but I wanted a different color than black & I still had to do my turbine housing anyway. I hope it comes out good, the cars fast but it’s a show car too, a lot of titanium hardware & carbon on the car. Guess I’m gonna have to cross my fingers on this one! Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it….💪🏻🏁
@murk1352 no problem man, wish you the best 🤙
How much cerakote would be enough for just a set of 4 cylinder headers?
Cerakote has a calculator tool on their website for various parts but you should be good with their smallest available size I would think. I still have a ton left after doing these and others.
Is there a video on how the air cured ones hold up over time?
I don't have a particular video for it, but if prepped correctly, they shouldn't have any issues after application. They don't require reapplication or upkeep, but you do have to make sure to take proper time with prep and application, or you can have them adhere poorly. The set on both my legacy and outback still have full coverage and zero flaking, for example, and they were done in this video.
How has the coating held up? Im curious how well it adheres without blasting.
I've been driving the legacy with the Tomei headers for about a year now. No issues. Coating still on there and still looking good. I recommend doing 5 to 8 coats as although it doesn't have issues flaking, if something scrapes it before it cures fully, you can scratch through it fairly easily. Aside from that, once on car and cured through a few heat cycles, they are durable and hold up well. 🤙
@@MatlasDI good to hear. I'll be doing my headers using the same process for my c5z. Thanks.
I'd be super cautious on any application that would see friction contact. Cerakote's instructions say the surface *must* be uniformly blasted with 100 grit garnet or aluminum oxide - suggesting chemical adhesion is not the product's strong suit. Even glass bead blasting is considered less than optimal. These headers were still borderline glossy-satin when sprayed. Good to know its held up regardless on a no-contact high heat application
Where did you get the cerakote, is this something I can get at a paint shop?
They are the same company as prismatic powders so you can go to that website or just go to cerakote.com
Jesus man, you blow a mighty fine header pipe. You need to get one of those bagpipe man skirts and get on down to your local park and put on a show!!
I wonder if it's possible to Skip the blasting and just clean up with Ass-a-tone? Maybe hand sand? Probably not. That blaster looks affordable but I wouldn't use it that much. Might have to find another use for it to justify purchasing. Do you think it would work well for back and pubic waxing?
Honestly I wouldn't use the sand blaster again. Made a massive mess and I wound up hand scuffing them anyways in the end. Manscaping is probably a no, but might do good as an exfoliant for the lady. 😆 🤣 thanks for the comment man 🤙
Mate that aint preped for shit for cerakote
Ok.
I forgot to ask is the srt4 pretty fast, haven't seen any videos on it
Doesn't run but it will be a focus once the legacy moves. Doesn't have much to go. Has a 6262 turbo on it with built motor and ported heads so it should make some sauce once it runs. Probably will keep it around the 600hp mark.
He'll yeah that's sick,so much 02 wrx wagon has catless up pipe downpipe and a new td05 turbo what else would I need to hit 300hp. I appreciate the help
@@robertmilroy2493 as long as you have the fueling for it you should be good. Get a 3 port boost controller if you don't have one yet.
Thanks again matt
Pull the parts you need to fix mittens
What size tip is that gun? And what settings for psi? 🤔
They advise to have at 30psi using a 0.8mm tip when shooting c series, so if you're picking one up I would look for that.
@@MatlasDI thanks man
How is it now? Did it burn off yet?
Have put a decent amount of heat cycles on it, still looking good no issues. Seems to be doing the job, but I've got to swap an axle that exploded. 🤣 (unrelated old car probs)
How much of it did you use? Was that 16 oz?
I believe that's their 16 Oz. 2 turbos and 2 headers didn't even use half of it.
@@MatlasDI I appreciate the response. I was organizing going to get somone to ceramic coat my hot side and turbine housing before I saw your video but now I'm going the route you went it's for cheaper and a good learning experience. I love the burnt bronze too I think that's what I'll use .
@rushking19 yeah the burnt bronze is a classic look. Always looks nice within the bay. Happy I could help man 🤙
How's this lookin after a year?
Got under the car for an oil change just the other day. Still looks great. All comes down to proper prep and curing.
😁👍🏻👍🏻
👌👌
How is the durability on the C series?
Has held up fine after a year. No flaking or issues. Prep properly and allow to cure before driving and you are good 👍
@@MatlasDI can you compare it to 2K paint?
@broom6958 I believe 2k would have better abrasive resistance, I've had pieces I didn't do quite as well that were fairly easy to scrape if they rubbed against something, but again, I think a lot of that comes down to coats, proper cure times before introducing them to harsh environments, and most importantly proper prep for good adhesion. 👍
@@MatlasDI thank you so much!
EL header? Do you even Subaru, bro?
Hey! Legacy is staying UEL with the Tomei 😉 I'll make sure to vape in the outback with the EL to keep the world from breaking. 🤣🤣
Finish Mittens
bump
It won’t last longer. Blast the piece with aluminum oxide is a MUST. Good try anyways 👍🏽
Haven't noticed any issues on any of the pieces from a longevity standpoint. None are flaking or having any seen issues with adhesion, but I would have probably done a few more coats if I'd done it again.
@@MatlasDI Good job buddy 💪🏽
@MatlasDI you only use 1 coat and it's a pretty thin coat. Thinner is better than thicker
New video or check please
Working on a couple now. First one up tomorrow. Lots of new content to work on
@@MatlasDI miss ya buddy :')
🥹I was just thinking I had to maybe ruin my oven but maybe there's hope.
Nah, no oven needed, just want to make sure you focus on prep, and you'll be good. 🤙 have coated a large number of different items since this video with zero issues.
