I think I was in Thailand and at that expo around the same time as you. I also had no plans to buy a watch, but ended up getting the Seiko save the ocean penguin monster. Not a thai limited but I also made an excuse to buy the watch by (loosely) tying it to my trip experience. (I had a good time watching the staff feed the penguins at the aquarium)
