I think Revolution was so much better than Revelation.
It's easy to just disregard a new character as a "Mary Sue", but I would argue that isnt the case this time. She was the one so eager to help out with tech, that Keldor EASILY manipulated her into enslaving the citizens.
I get that everyone wants to be mad at shit being too woke or progressive, but do not think that happened here. If anything it was a return to a more traditional He-Man show. Hell, Teela was flirting with Adam/He-Man in the first episode. And the new voice actress instead of SMG helped a ton.
The 200X remake still remains the better version... despite the grey shading!
I never could get past them using Leonardo for Adam's voice.

100% agreed. But I have no problem with the Filmation series. It's meant to be a kids show.
So I just watched the first episode of Revolution and can somebody please explain to me why Adam can't both be He-Man and King of Eternia? What are they basing that logic on? There is no historical precedent where kings never lead their armies in battle.
Randor was in a battle in episode one. They put it in purely to drive the "plot".

@@MsBerries25 Well, that's where kings came from. You had a guy like William the Conqueror who goes and takes over England and thus he's king. The decedents just ride on the coattails of what their ancestor did.

@@micksystv7125 I think they were being sarcastic, a lot of fans were disappointed with the final season of Voltron: Legendary Defender (the recent reboot).
I felt the same about Season 1. It was awesome seeing He Man again, but didn't care for where the Teela story drag us to. I will not see Season 2.
Yeah, it's a shame they couldn't take it somewhere cool. It started as a cheesy TV show to sell toys, but it doesn't have to end that way.

The messes up part is if they bring Shera in this series she will never meet her father
Maybe she can visit him in Heaven like Teela did? But she has her mum, which is more important. Although, now Marlena's jobless and homeless, so good luck locating her.

You're spot on about Chris Wood reaching too hard on the He-Man voice inflection. I fault the director for this. As a matter of fact, every time Adam/He-Man speaks, he sounds like he's making a speech, so grandiose and too, "LOOK AT ME ! THIS IS THE HE-MAN REBOOT AREN'T YOU EXCITED WE'RE BACK?" kind of bull***t
And I agree with the rating you gave of 5/10 partly due to the absolute lack of character development and deference to the (ridiculous) plot. It's like all of these strange elements of the show simply were there to serve the plot and nothing more
You seem to have a pretty reasonable outlook on this whole series, so can I ask a favor? If you still have access to watch it, can you tell me how Keldor and Skeletor are directly fighting each other in episode 2 (8min 40sec), when they are the same person? Did they disguise Beastman as Skeletor or something?

@micksystv7125 So to explain that scene: Skeletor is actually Motherboard in disguise, and Keldor is Skeletor in disguise. They did this to fool everyone into believing Keldor is a good guy in fighting and winning against "Skeletor" to save Eternians. This culminated in his coronation as successor to Randor, crowned as King Keldor The First by a duped He-Man
I just went back and watched it myself. And you are correct. It was Motherboard.
i tolerated Revelations. It was really the Tela show. Killing He-Man in episode one, then again as soon as he returned until the final fight.
But Revolutions got He Man mostly right. The over the top fight at the start, the epic adventure in ep2 when he ran off to take on Motherboard. And even that final fight was pure cheese.
Long time He-Man fan. When i was a kid, me and my friends used to roleplay it in the school yard. I was always Man at Arm's because I was the strongest. My blonde friend of course was Prince Adam so I half agree with your video.

Not using ...or even giving homage to one of the most iconic theme songs of our childhood is beyond me. Licencing and rights are probably an issue here, but god damn, it couldn't be that it costs a fortune for Saban/Levy to allow the show to use its original theme. The theme is 40 years old, I mean, how much would it possibly cost?
I'm wondering if it's just that they're hoping to make their own timeline that future generations will have to pay THEM to license.

The 80s Filmation music belongs to DreamWorks, they even used it in She-ra and the princesses of power episode named roll with it.

I thought part 1 was terrible yet people in a motu Facebook page I belong to just wanted to tell me how wrong I was. Part 1 of revelation. Part 2 wasn't bad. Hamil was terrible though. All he did was joker. He as great as that voice but he has no range. They could have gotten a great voice actor to give us a fresh take on the character
I think some people just see any improvement as an immediate needle shift to 10/10, not realising they can go from 2/10 up to 5/10. Who knows maybe season 3 will be good if they can get the rights to She-Ra from Dreamworks/Universal.
If you want a more mature take on He-Man. Might I recommend the DC Comics? They're targetted toward a much older audience and are much more gritty.

If Revelations was The Last Jedi, then Revolution is Rise of Skywalker. It tries to repair the damage, but ends up being a stupid and bloated mess.

I watched both those cartoons in the 80's He-Man and then Shera when I was a kid I had the toys and figures too the 80's cartoons and toys where the best ever and happy I got to experience that time.

A simple scene such as He-Man smashing the Diamond of Disappearance in the 80's classic has more depth and beauty than this whole show.,..
Nothing will ever beat Filmation Disney-like fulled by psychedelics and organic architecture. And the music of 80's version is just Majestical

I think it was pretty good, Hordak vs Skeletor was epic and Evil-Lyn again best part of the show.
The thing is, I like when people have a vision and do not listen to the usual virgin complaints from cellar-dwellers. Because then we get what virgin cellar-dwellers like and that is not a good thing. It is old, it is boring and we really have enough weeaboos.

@micksystv7125 I get the feeling Smith has little influence on any of this show. From the look of that ending it had Mattel written all over it. The Origins line is over and masterverse/new eternia/40th anniversary Heman figures sold really badly. It just looks like another attempt to make a new toy.
Watch the 200X show instead. Much better animation, no woke bullshit.

Classic fans expecting He-man and the masters of the universe but the whole story line is a mess since revelation KS and the writers they don't know how to create Motu world the main Hero He-man still a side character and they change the original characters aspect color as king Grayskull and Andra for inclusive dumb reasons, but still copycat storylines from other franchises as Stargate sg1,MCU, Star wars doesn't feel Motu universe at all
you want something great ! go watch the original or the 2002 reboot Heman and the masters of the universe ! still awesome

I think Kevin Smith redeemed himself with Revolution. Think of it as pitching from the sand in golf. He needed to get back on the fairway, lets see how he handles season 3 if there is one.
Well I did give Revolution a higher score than Revelation ,so I agree. It is an improvement. I'll be interested to see how he handles Adora,but I'm not a huge She-Ra fan, so I'm unlikely to get as butthurt.
I really enjoyed more Revolutions than Revelations. I agree was rushed but that was not a problem for me.

The 80s series was an ad for toys. This new season isn't far off. I'd hope they'd raise the bar, but unfortunately they had to follow the script.

If you can get it for free, you can get some laughs out of it.

This He Man by Kevin Smith is complete Bullshit. All characters were mischaracterized, the plot was terrible, and everything was completely destroyed.
The original He Man was much deeper, simpler and more interesting.
And the original had to get by the censors.
I think revolutions was great a ton of fan service and Easter eggs and pieces together revelations redeeming it in my eyes as setting the stage for the season and even more with the addition of she Ra next season I day just support the show it's decent if we don't we won't have anything if the sort

Full disclosure first: As a lifelong MOTU fan, I absolutely loved Revelation and Revolution. So I respectfully disagree.
As a Filmation fan, you should consider the episodes "Teela's Quest", "Teela's Trial", "Teela's Triumph", "The Witch and the Warrior" (and others) where He-Man is NOT the main character, and Teela gets the spotlight (along with Evil-Lyn in one of those). Were they being "woke" in 1983?
In Revelation/Revolution, there is nothing to suggest Andra was a lesbian, or a man-hater. In fact, she's in awe of Man-At-Arms.
To those who did not like Revelation/Revolution because of the story, I can understand that, because art is subjective. But there are those who assert that there is some kind of political "woke" agenda going on here. That is flat out untrue. If you want an example of a show with that type of agenda, look at Netflix She-Ra.
Good points, and well made. I suppose my thoughts would be more in line with yours if Revelation had been titled "Teela's Quest.
I pointed out how at least this series was leaning more towards an even 50/50 split in following He-Man vs Teela. But if the sequel bait works, maybe we'll get our 1:1 comparison, hopefully the She-Ra: Rev....ultion series follows Adora, and not Bow. That would suck.
The problem with the first is that they promoted it as a He-Man show and he was hardly in it. When people finally got to watch it, they found a bunch of male characters sidelined, the personality of Teela had been altered (along with giving her the "in" woke haircut), and then they gave all the main women masculine physiques compared to their historical representations in cartoons, comics, toys, art, etc. Now in addition to these things, they race changed two characters, and then released the show during a time where it is the "in" thing in Hollywood to do all these things. I don't think it unrealistic to see where people will think it is "woke", and I think it is unfair to assert that there is no political agenda written into the show at all.
Is the first one woke? Honestly, I think it falls somewhere in between. Personally, I'm fine with other characters having strong story arcs. My issues with the first show are the sloppy research and writing that was done on it. Some histories have been changed because the writers either didn't do enough research, or switched them intentionally out of convenience. Also, some character personalities have been drastically altered to the point where character responses are completely out of place. With the personality changes, I have a hard time believing it wasn't done intentionally to weaken some characters and strengthen others.
@Ultimate_Wasabi The promotion of the show is an interesting argument to make. The Netflix plot summary clearly said it was about Teela. The trailer did show alot of He-Man, but I consider that not wanting to give away too much of the plot rather than the alleged "bait and switch".
I understand the creative choice to give Teela a harsher look, because she was hardened by the events, and her appearance was a physical manifestation of what she was feeling. I don't see it as promoting the look, rather acknowledging it is a harsher look. But for those concerned, she had her long red hair back by the time that season ended.
With respect to the research, it was clear to me they did a ton of research. There were some deep cuts from the franchise's mythology. Wun-dar, Goat Man, Pig Boy, the hanging stickers in Castle Grayskull, calling Night Stalker "Nightmare", the Glove of Globulah... I could go on. They clearly did their homework.
As for personalities, that can be debated. I don't know the specifics of what you are referring to, but one I commonly hear is that Filmation Teela would never resign her post. Actually, Filmation Teela DID resign her post in the episode "Teela's Trial." Incidentally, Man-At-Arms did too in Filmation, and he also tried to in MYP. So I don't see this action as out of character. But again, not sure specifically what you viewed as problematic.
I agree with those who critique Evil Lyn getting off scott free, and certain other story elements. But I do strongly feel that this show was made in good faith, with care and attention to the vast MOTU history.
Man-At-Arms was a major character of the original series. One of 3 to know Adam's secret. Now he's usurped by a character who just happens to have been changed to fit a couple of key demographics. Even taking his title, and skill set.
He-Man/Adam loses powers in this series, while Teela gains powers.
Their saving grace is that I can admit that the show is not called "He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe: Revolution". even though their Official Trailer has He-Man front and center. Classic bait and switch.
@micksystv7125 Man-At-Arms did not "lose" his title. Remember, in episode 1, he was retiring (voluntarily), and Teela was next in line for it. But with her becoming the Sorceress, they needed someone else to fill the role.
Now I will agree with you that it's a pretty big jump for someone who was just made lieutenant to then receive the Man-At-Arms position. I think that is a fair criticism. But... Andra is pretty good with tech, so while she does not have the military training that Duncan had, she had the tech expertise. Regardless, fair point.
As for He-Man losing his powers... what powers did he lose? Do you mean he lost his life? He did so willingly for the universe, a more noble act than any MOTU story in any other continuity. But by the end, he was alive again with all of his original powers.
As for Teela gaining powers, you do know that the Filmation cartoon of the 80s was setting her up for that scenario, right? It's nothing that Kevin Smith created. This is not "woke", unless you feel that the 1980s cartoon was "woke" too.
The trailer did have alot of He-Man. But as I said in my previous post, the Netflix plot summary clearly stated that this would be a Teela adventure. So if it was intended to be a bait and switch, why in the world did they put out that plot summary saying it would be all about Teela?
Both Revelation and Revolution were great shows. It really re-invigorated my interest in MOTU.
Well, at least someone's getting some enjoyment out of it. I hope there's plenty more for you to enjoy.
