And not only that, but that he had turned his mother so far out that she could no longer stand to live with herself. Simply shooting this guy let's him off too easy I think. The movie Seven, or Saw heads in the right direction.
I remember an interviewer asking Steven Spielberg back in the early noughties "Who is the finest living actor?" And without a moments hesitation he replied "Peter Postlethwaite" This alone kind of proves it.(R.I.P. Peter)
Imagine complaining to this florist. Customer: I paid for two dozen roses be delivered on valentines and they never showed. I demand a refund. Florist: A refund huh? I'll refund your nuts. It can either be by the knife or the chemical way, your choice.
Truly one of the best films I've seen. And the way Pete plays Fergus is amazing.. I read somewhere he was dying of cancer while filmimg this..Great actor and so was a few of the others. Ben was fantastic and jeremy was also brilliant
Who thinks The Florist is a better Irish mob boss than Frank Costello (The Departed)? I loved that movie but Jack Nicholson's performance always seemed a little cartoonish to me. Now Postlethwaite's performance was really menacing and seemed more real. He wasn't flashy, in this scene he's stripping roses for christ's sake, but he was really a bad guy.
And without even responding to the insult or raising his voice, "You're gonna this for me. Or I'm gonna clip your nuts..." So calm and threatening. Like: "Yeah, whatever. You're still a dead man if you don't obey me."
One of my favorite movies. I loved when Ben said that he would regret losing her for the rest of his life and when his dad said I’ll see you either on this side or the other.😔😭🤦🏾♀️Brilliant acting.
How good is Pete Postlethwaite with accents specifity? In the movie In the name of the father he did the accent of a man who was Belfast born and bred and here he does the accent of a man who was born and brought up in Belfast but settled later in Boston, So It's a Boston Influenced Belfast accent, you can hear the Ulster Irish intonation but with the Boston Non-Rhoticity. Incredible!!
I'm from Dublin Ireland. I think he does a very good job, you can hear his English accent pop through on some words but I think he does a very good job. If I heard someone speak like that over hear I would think it was someone from the North who has probably lived in England at some point and picked up some of the accent from there. Some Irish people may disagree but I think its quite good especially compared to the ridiculous fake Irish accents you see in some American movies.
The Town is one of the greatest films of all time. Gritty, grounded, and to the point. The dialogue and storytelling is superb as well. This was the first movie that made me respect Ben Affleck.
Why does everyone act like their so called “respect” means anything to these mega stars? They couldn’t careless either way, makes no difference to them.
Saw this movie in the theater when it came out 10 years ago. Watched it when it came out on dvd. Just watched it again on Netflix. This movie never gets old. Interesting fact is that I had a friend that lived across the street from that exact flower shop. But it wasn’t in Charlestown. It was filmed in South Boston on Dorchester Ave.
The fact that he just keeps on trimming the roses and chewing his gum seemingly not even caring to what he is saying about getting out of the business is what makes the scene.
The florist may just be the most intimidating old man I ever watched on the silver screen. LOVE the Irish accent. New England is a great place. Best football ever (and I am a West Coast guy).
Pete Postlethwaite is and was one of the finest actors that had ever lived. If you are a young aspiring actor then you will do no wrong in studying this incredible man's work.
Doug was likely packing heat. Notice the moment when he slightly glanced between Fergie and Rusty. Wondering if he was fast enough. He was thinking about it. I know that I would.
Pretty interesting fact, Pete Posslethwaite who played Fergus, had a brother called Mike, both from Warrington UK, Mike worked on 2 of my mum and dad’s house. I met Pete when I was very little around 4 (would’ve been 2003) and my dad told me he was a very kind and funny man!
Bruh this fucking movie is one of my top 5 ever..I was living in Boston when this came out so it made it that much better.. i looovvveee this fucking movie
For those of you who aren't locals, at the 2:06 mark the florist says "she hung herself, on Melnea Cass", which is a boulevard in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood right by Boston Medical Center.
Chris, can you please interpret the rest of his dialogue for a naive person like myself. What do you suppose he is literally saying (instead of metaphorically) with the taste/hook/doped up good and proper stuff? I can imagine bit I'm probably wrong. What does he mean?
@@johnreagan He was saying that he gave his mom her first dose/hit/taste of heroin. He got her addicted to it, and then used it to get her to do terrible things like prostitute. Eventually she got so beaten down that she hung herself on said street. When he said "if there is a heaven son, she ain't in it" he meant that in Christianity, suicide is a mortal sin and a guarenteed trip to hell after you die. Basically, he tortured her and put her in hell on earth until she broke and sent herself to the hell of the bible.
@@onbored9627 Sounds right. I thought it had everything to do with drugs and nothing sexual between the two. Pimps are always more menacing than the prostitutes.
”if there’s a heaven, son, she ain’t in it” God damn that shit was one of the coldest lines ever. The movie is great. The book is better, it's called Prince if Thieves by Chuck Hogan. It’s great. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a lover of Affleck. But Jeremy Renner wins this movie.
"Remember who clip your nuts for ya" best line from Ben Affleck. I still can't believe this movie is directed, written and produced by Ben Affleck. What a guy he is. All of his movies are superb badass.. The Accountant, Live by Night, Argo and Gone Baby Gone. Real thriller gems!
I find it Ironic that if Ben Affleck's character never turned down doing the job and insulted The Florist he would've never found out the truth about his mother.
Except it can be argued that it is in fact ironic. It contains irony because a dismissive/confrontational situation started by Doug ultimately led to a positively conclusive albeit bitter form of closure in knowing about his mother.
Ben Affleck has come a long way. He is a great director and acting has gotten a whole lot better since the days of Daredevil. The Town is one my favorite movies with a strong cast. Ben did a great job directing this movie and the acting was great. actually think he is going to surprise the nay sayers and do real well as Batman. Looking forward to the Dawn of Justice.
steven j Patten if you ask me daredevil as well as green latern had terrible directors who didn't know anything about the characters they were doing a movie for. Also it all comes to the actors personality and not so much of thinking that an actor can do every rol in the world, i've just watching a movie by clint eastwood with leonard dicaprio as the lead and he didn't convice me a little bit with his acting which is strange, isn't? i am not saying that clint eastwood is a bad director (he is actually one of the most talented directors in hollywood), what i am saying is that the character wasn't for the actor giving his personalities traits.

+fooloof I wonder who thought of it.....did the director say STOP!! Hey throw Fergie 3 sticks of juicy fruit the scene.....Or did Fergie himself say hey I know I'm telling the kid that if there's a heaven his mum isnt in .it......but if you toss me some bubble yum then scene will become more real........I don't know for me if he is chewing tobacco and spits it in a plant THAT would be realism my friend
Lol.......
I thought his parents were killed in a back alley after walking out of a theatre
***** yep just like batman lol
Lucy Fir Aren't you a clever boy
Lucy Fir #thatsthejoke
TheManwithafan 👀 it again! You're gonna do this for me 👀😂 And I know now I will find yi (sic) 👌🏽 Love this movie so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Renner made his move to big time through this movie
Why is that funny ?
I dont get it ?
Pete Postlethwaite put on one hell of an Oscar worthy performance.
he was BAFTA nominated that year
Such a good scene. This film has a lot of great scenes.
A very underrated film I feel.
Pete Postelthwaite was 1 of the great character actors of all time! A rare & brilliant talent.
Got to give the old man some respect, he pretty much destroyed his life talking about his parents.
Yep,.
Pete Postelthwaite was a master of acting...
andydufresne87 Check him out with Daniel Day Lewis In the Name of the Father.
"If there's a heaven son, she ain't in it"
steve f. That's a fucked up thing to stay & totally heartless.
That was a fucked up thing for him to say.
And got his old ass shot up
@@devinandres5054 - fucked up isn't the word for it. This man just told him that he was the reason his father was crying. Not only that but he was the reason his mother left. Not only that but that he basically turned his mother into a junkie whore that did every nasty shameful thing he told her to do to get her dope from him. And not only that, but that he had turned his mother so far out that she could no longer stand to live with herself.
Simply shooting this guy let's him off too easy I think. The movie Seven, or Saw heads in the right direction.
Those are some fighting words.
Never doubt ben Affleck's acting abilities this guy with the right story and right actors for movies he can 100% deliver
Great scene!! This movie is a gem. Still rank Heat my favorite but this is up there . Great acting here especially.
Postlethwaite was so cool in this.He was a real touch of class 👌 Think he was ill at time of filming too.😥🙏🏼❤️
I remember an interviewer asking Steven Spielberg back in the early noughties "Who is the finest living actor?" And without a moments hesitation he replied "Peter Postlethwaite" This alone kind of proves it.(R.I.P. Peter)
Random but the heavy scrape of the shotgun barrel is such a menacing sound, makes you literally and figuratively feel the weight of the situation
RIP Pete Postlethwaite, what an actor
This is one of the most chilling villain monologues ever performed. Cold as ice 🥶
This movie made me love Ben afleck
nik71989 what a joke
What kind of Jedi is named 'Joe'?
He's alright, until we knew he's in league with the Hillbots.
He directed the hell out of this movie.
Me too.
Imagine complaining to this florist.
Customer: I paid for two dozen roses be delivered on valentines and they never showed. I demand a refund.
Florist: A refund huh? I'll refund your nuts. It can either be by the knife or the chemical way, your choice.
where is my fucking roses. better run or fight I would say. LoL. Pete is a outstanding actor, He really was the standout of this movie.
Strikes me as the sort of gentle florist who'd stick the thorny stems right up a complainant's arsehole.
This scene is great. I deliver for a high-end florist in southern California. Some customers told me about this scene in the town. No issues at all.
I just read the florist's line in Irish wtf
Read that in his voice. 🤣
“Joe Flipperhead” 🤣
Every character in this movie is masterfully written and executed . Renner hamm lively. Intense
Truly one of the best films I've seen. And the way Pete plays Fergus is amazing.. I read somewhere he was dying of cancer while filmimg this..Great actor and so was a few of the others. Ben was fantastic and jeremy was also brilliant
Mahn! I just noticed this old man is Kobayashi from The Usual Suspects.
also the Narrator from James and the Giant Peach. And speaking of JP, he also played the lead hunter in the Lost World, Roland.
Also, Sergeant Hakeswill in the tv series "Sharpe"
Obadiah haha
Updiwasa He's from Jurassic Park: the Lost world
Also in the name of the father 1993
Who thinks The Florist is a better Irish mob boss than Frank Costello (The Departed)? I loved that movie but Jack Nicholson's performance always seemed a little cartoonish to me. Now Postlethwaite's performance was really menacing and seemed more real. He wasn't flashy, in this scene he's stripping roses for christ's sake, but he was really a bad guy.
Jack Nicholson has played himself in every movie since One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
yes Jack Nicholson's performance did seem a little off in that movie....almost like a comedy
Florist is better than ever, tough irish talk,
Michael Haney Mike Fitzgerald aka Fitzie the florist is a real person. Just did time with him in the Fed's. Serious guy. Ran Charlestown.
He was supposed to be goofy. From what I read, Scorsese kind of let him run wild with the role and make it his own.
There's something satisfying about the way he clips roses.
Yup
An asmr effect
Ben should have filed 30 minutes of him clipping roses and uploaded it to RUclips as a relaxation video
Its theraputhic 👍 like a grandmother knitting 😉
"You're an old guy with a fucked up face" lmfao too funny
He may run numbers and pump dope, but he has a flower shop to run God damnit! And clean those roses, he will.
Uridien 1 😂😂😂
The Town is one of the greatest films of all time. Gritty, grounded, and to the point. The dialogue and storytelling is superb as well. This was the first movie that made me respect Ben Affleck.
Why does everyone act like their so called “respect” means anything to these mega stars? They couldn’t careless either way, makes no difference to them.
@@RevealedFilms I respected his performance mate. Celebrity worship is absurd and is a whole different story haha.
I feel that this whole movie was so underrated. Acting all around was superb. The story was so well done. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Agree completely. I live in the suburbs of Boston and I love everything about this
People don't really understand how darkening, cold, heartless this scene is , just incredible performances from this cast....
Yeah. You're special. Only you have the emotional depth, intelligence, and insight to really appreciate it.
that is one evil mick
the florist is a clown
That’s how you run a crew.
Not bad for a fucking mick
The fact that he just keeps on trimming the roses and chewing his gum seemingly not even caring to what he is saying about getting out of the business is what makes the scene.
Peter Postlethwaite…one of the best if not the best character actors of his generation. He delivered powerhouse performances in most of his roles
He was an amazing actor. One of my favorite movies.
The florist may just be the most intimidating old man I ever watched on the silver screen. LOVE the Irish accent. New England is a great place. Best football ever (and I am a West Coast guy).
Fuck Worcester
The actor Pete Postlethwaite was terminally ill with pancreas cancer when filming this movie. He died not long after.
They should make a sequel where Joe Flipperhead and his crew do hesits.
Lmaoooo
Snarky, the Cat hahaha yes please 😂😂
Lmao!!!!!!!!!
This comment is true gold. I love you man
A$AP
Pete Postlethwaite is and was one of the finest actors that had ever lived. If you are a young aspiring actor then you will do no wrong in studying this incredible man's work.
What a fine actor Postlethwaite was. Such class & historic roles. He is sorely missed.
"If there's a heaven son, she aint in it"
🤣🤣😂
Ben Affleck was steamin' You could see it on his face. He wanted to rip Fergie in half!
Doug was likely packing heat. Notice the moment when he slightly glanced between Fergie and Rusty. Wondering if he was fast enough. He was thinking about it. I know that I would.
Postlethwaite was such an amazing actor
The rose guy with his actions and movements looks so satisfying.
"You think i'm gonna put Joe Flipper Head on this? You're gonna do what i ask."
For those of you who aren't locals, at the 2:06 mark the florist says "she hung herself, on Melnea Cass", which is a boulevard in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood right by Boston Medical Center.
Thank you, had zero clue what he said.
how do you pronounce Melnea?
”if there’s a heaven, son, she ain’t in it”
God damn that shit was one of the coldest lines ever. The movie is great. The book is better, it's called Prince if Thieves by Chuck Hogan. It’s great. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a lover of Affleck. But Jeremy Renner wins this movie.
The scene where Renner is hiding behind the mailbox: He's dying of thirst and sees the used soda in a cup, and sips from the straw. Holy fuck!!
Gods last name ain’t dam
"If we get jammed up out there - we're holding court on the street"
@@godlovesyou1622 shut up
The way he clips flowers so effortlessly whilst ironically talking about clipping nuts goes hand in hand.
The Florist: By the way, they’re after me lucky charms. They’re magically delicious.
Pete Postlethwaite was just incredible in every role he ever played.
I find it Ironic that if Ben Affleck's character never turned down doing the job and insulted The Florist he would've never found out the truth about his mother.
@James Cricket right! I'm so fucking sick of people just throwing words out like that. They have to MEAN something!
Except it can be argued that it is in fact ironic. It contains irony because a dismissive/confrontational situation started by Doug ultimately led to a positively conclusive albeit bitter form of closure in knowing about his mother.
One of THE great last performances. Pete Postlethwaite in The Town is up there with Richard Burton in 1984
Pete Poslethwaite was legendary actor, could play so many different roles. Totally evil on this one
When are we getting the Joe Flipperhead spinoff.
Boston, most Irish city in America. And Massachusetts, most Irish state in the union. Love the tattoo he had
Not very Irish these days bud
Best film great to be irish even if they living in Boston r whatever part of the world still never forget there roots
Suzanne HandThe Irish make up 20.4% of the population in Boston.
Suzanne Hand thank you we are proud people. now get in the caaaa and keep ye lip shut...just kidding😂☘️
Good News Gaming they aren't Irish . Those are Americans with Irish blood
Why is Boston so racist?
Ah the genius Pete postlethwaite. Stole every scene is he was ever in. Most riveting actor.
Love this actor. His performance In The Name of the Father is my personal favorite.
R.I.P. Pete Postlethwaite (1946 ~ 2011)
This is when you start to realize how his father has been protecting him from the fucked up truth his whole life
The 02129 tattoo in the Irish colors is awesome.
Steven Spielberg said Pete was the greatest actor he’s ever worked with on Jurassic Park:The Lost World.
