One word..."insane"... Like an elite athlete that makes their sport look so easy.... you do the same.... making these projects look easy and giving viewers, like me, the confidence to "have a go".. love it ! Thank you again.
Its so cool that the actual milage of the cluster is going up, u should make a video how to reset the mileage, so you can see how much virtual miles you have driven!
That would be more harder, you need to desolder the eeprom memory, reverse engineer how the value is stored, and write a new value. A 0km doesnt mean its a 0 in the eeprom.
look up Suzuki XBOX car. Most the articles you find are shit and not informative, but when it was debuted I remember hearing it was wired to use the steering wheel, pedals, and shifter for sim control.
I am blown away by all of these projects and how well you make them, how simple you make them look and how easy they are to follow, which will be good for me soon when I get my PC soon
I've done it today..!!Fantastic work...Couldn't find where to put the protocol file cause i got the newest SimHub version and it is not in the same spot as the one shown in the video. For those who looking for it, it is in the arduino page/my hardware/multiple arduinos, you will see "multiple arduino settings, and the E36 device.Down below "Custom protocol" you press edit and the rest are like the video shown.
I have a sim rig based on an E46 dash with my old E36 gauges fitted that I have been trying to find info about this since the new year, this is going to complete my rig as I already have all the buttons working thanks to your button box guide. You really are a master of all things SIM!
@@mitchdorosan9969i think if you find the right wiring diagram you can connect it following this video. Just keep in mind what wire connects to which connector on e36, and just translate it to e46 using e46 wiring diagram. Sry if i was a bit unclear but i think u will get the point 😅
Would be great if you could go a bit more in depth with what easy pin does so we could use this guide for other clusters.. None the less, you are doing great God's work sir!
No, the E46 cluster is fully CANBUS for engine data. You could still use the cluster, with a CANBUS shield, as all of the messages are documented. But it would not work using this method.
wedophones.com/Manuals/BMW/1999%20BMW%20318ti%20Electrical%20Troubleshooting%20Manual.pdf page 152 you can find the pinout of the instrument cluster edit: by clicking on the numbers, you are redirected to the corresponding plug edit2: pages 153-4-5 is the list of the 3 connectors
Clearly a niche topic.. but I'm very impressed by the R&D the uploader clearly has carried out, the trouble taken to develop a simple, robust solution, and the clarity of the presentation. Awesome job. Sadly my interest is VAG VDO clusters, so none of this is of any use to me :)
I love your channel. Best sim channel there is. I would just like to thank you for the handbrake video. I made it and it works great. Thank you for your time and efforts!
I made a E36 cluster work 4 years ago, before Simhub even existed. So much work for nothing. I moved to Simhub since then. :) Mine has some extra features. The lights are also wired in with simple NPN transistors. Some of them are tricky. Turn signals and high beam need to be switched to 12V to work, the rest need ground signal to light up.

Guess who is going to their local car wrecker tomorrow to pick a cluster up? 👍🏻 thank you man!!
Julian Curmi you might as well cut the stock wiring harness out the car too, install will be easier and abit cleaner imo
Yeah, highly recommended. With my cluster (e36), I used the plugs from the harness, so that the cluster can be easily taken out for whatever reason.
Me too xD $17 for the cluster
TGWorkbench cheap, where

Finally RUclips recommends me something good

An easier solution is to write the kms/miles when you get it and then just subtract that amount

it's always fascinating what you do. but, now my question: can you make a turtorial with a truck speedo cluster? for ets2
Yes thanks so much! I have been asking myself how to do this for the past 2 years. I will definitly be making this in the near future!
Two questions
1.does the turn signals work and hazard lights?
2.does the dashboard lights work like the handbrake light, high beams, check engine etc?
I didn't rebuild that and I'm obviously not the uploader, but there's a reason he connected only like 10% of all pins.
With a little extra work, I’m sure you could get them to😁
The lights use 12V bulbs, you need transistors for them to work, and some extra code for the custom protocol.
@@gerzsone30 led lights could Be a solution
Who care about the blinkers lol this is a bmw cluster they were never meant to be used anyway lolllll

What are those arrows on the sides of the speedo and tach for? Never seen those in use on a bmw
Fuel use in liters
is this a blinker joke?
@@frozensolid8968 Yes, yes it is

Maybe do Logitech Shifter Standalone USB?
Oh god, thank you very much! looked for something like this for over 2 years. Time to go to my yard and remove one of e36 clusters from my parts cars!
I'm assuming this could be modified to use whatever dash cluster one can get for cheapest, right?
erica if it has similar wiring and pin out then it's a yes
To make sure that it is compatible, it has to be a non-canbus cluster (takes in analog pwm or tone signals through dedicated pins).
Picked one for 9£, toyota avensis cluster. Rpm meter goes up to 8 so its okay, make sure you don't get a diesel one...

How to wire a fuel gauge from this cluster to PC ?

Does it work with an e39 cluster ?
i am trying to figure it out at the moment. i'll contact you if i have a success :D
célian becquet if you know what the pinouts mean on the e36 cluster, just look for the pins with same function on the e39 cluster
No I tried it and the E39 cluster has incripted signals that go to 3 modules 1 main 2 abs 3 some other ithat i Dont Know Soo u might be able to but its too much work ;DDD Sorry for my English
The problem for the e39 is that it uses a can-bus system. That means its doesn't use one simple pin for rpm and speed.

thank you so much for sharing and providing updated info in the description, I just got done making mine and its working perfectly thank you again!
Amstudio If I email you a pin out diagram can you help me figure out what needs to get wired up?
