Beautiful car! I also have a 70 SS Chevelle. Themed just like yours (street/strip). Same color color combo except white stripes. Was a 540 ci. Took it out one day running it hard. All of a sudden, valve train was louder than normal. Looked down at temp gauge...it was trying to get past 300*!! Pulled over and opened the hood. The top and bottom hoses were double in size! Closed the hood. Didnt want to get burned. Had it towed home. Checking everything out, it turns out I flung off the water pump belt and drove without a water pump for about 4 miles (I found the belt on the road). The aluminum radiator was actually ballooned out from all the pressure causing the electric fans to be contacting it. Put everything back together and it seemed everything was fine. However, It was the end of the season so, I didnt want to take a chance. I tore it down and rebuilt it to 565. I figured with the aluminum heads and all, thought for sure I would eventually blow a head gasket. Good luck on yours!
Try some K Seal gasket sealer / repair I've heard it works good for cracks and blown head gaskets. Still would replace the heads and gasket but to be back on the road for like $30 is hard to beat! Good luck on your solution
Sorry to hear your having car trouble. That's how Hot Rods are, you always have to work on them unfortunately. My luck isn't much better when it comes to cars. I wanted to say I love the look of Chevelle, and I'm a Ford guy. Lol God bless.
I lost my belt in my stang yrs ago kept starting it and coasting it made it home hit 300° locked up tight, let it cool down and fired up no issue, but thats ford with aluminum heads
@thatred704 nothing to do with luck ford has better metal content, been proven for yrs, it's a highly respected car in my area, I street race it religiously, and drive her home everything, it will run 11.0 on any surface
My 468 blowed was still running but making lifter noises an just got worse so I went pump gas 565 with 345 AFR heads made almost 800 on dyno but wowbdoes she love some fuel hahahaha good luck brother she is a pretty lady mines a 69 but I Love a 70 to now an the red black stripes is my fav.
If those heads had new guides installed one of them may be leaking, putting coolant in that cylinder! Factory iron heads are prone to that failure when guides aren’t installed properly!

Keep the iron heads. Sounds like a blown head gasket.

Thanks! It's a bummer but it'll be back on the road soon.

You have a blown head gasket.

I love a 69 as well!
Well maybe head gasket blew and when it puts water in combustion chamber it highers the temperature, maybe it wasnt termostat.
Yes I believe it’s the head gasket. Hopefully!

They are the same heads from before
It could be a head gasket
Hopefully!
Blown head gasket I think
