  • We’ll show how to properly setup the servo so it grabs the band at the right time.
This time we’ll work with our servo and see how to set it up properly. Learn how to adjust the clearance between the servo band apply pin and the band. We’ll see how the servo works and what modifications we should make to a stock servo.
We learn how to choose the correct band apply pin. We’ll also see what to do when we have the wrong one. If it’s too short we’ll see how to lengthen it. When it’s too long we’ll learn how to shorten it.
Lastly we’ll see how to measure the clearance and learn what that clearance should be. We’ll see factory GM tools as well as regular tools we can use if we don’t have the GM tools.
    More info? Of course!!!

How did the trans turn out? I’m also doing the CK performance shift kit & servo I’m my Buick GN. You videos are great, very informative!

I too can't wait for you next video. I am at the point of upgrading my servo. I am cusious your take on weather you use the cushion spring or not. CK now says no. I am afraid of the 3-2 clunk if I don't

I'm using the ck pro-street servo in this build part #24RCC/PSBISA. Vid 21 will show setup for it. BUT I just checked his website and it seems he no longer makes/sells it. Too bad as it was a nice piece... the largest available.
He changes his kits quite often so details may change but if you're using his shift kit I would do whatever he recommends. If you get a clunk pull the spring.
Are you sure he says no?? Just checking his latest shift kit instructions here: www.ckperformance.com/files/112573/2004R%20SHIFT%20RECALIBRATION%20KIT%20%20.pdf on the bottom of page 16 it says to use the spring(and the return one too) so I would double check with the exact kit you're using.

I was told that the cushion spring should be in there when taking measurement. With the cushion spring in, I had measured.085. I would assume I should be good? I'd like to hear your opinion. It feels correct when turning the output shaft.

      Thanks for watching!
There are many ways to do things and I suppose many folks have methods that work for them. In this vid I showed what works for me. It's the way I do it and simply what works for me. So, it's what I do lol.
I don't know what performance you're building for but I would expect 85 thou is fine as long as it feels ok when turning output shaft with the vice grips like I showed. I doubt the local aamco or tranny shop back in the day even bothered to test clearance with any gauging back in the day... probably just by feel lol
Good luck with your build! 🤙

I really enjoy your series. I was afraid to use or rebuild this trans till I found your series. So I bought one yesterday to build ! Can't wait for 21.Will that be last one or you plan a few more to the series?

Thanks for watching! 21 is in edit currently and is about servo differences... stock vs 3 different aftermarket ones along with installing the aftermarket one I'm actually using since it's slightly different procedure. I would expect 4 or 5 more after that one.
      Good luck with your build!!

I'm doing dual feed direct, middle lip in drum omitted and center support middle ring omitted and installed Teflon rings. At the point of installing center support retaining bolts im making sure that the feed hole that gets blocked off is the retaining bolt closest to driver side / shift lever side. Correct or No ??
