Thanks for sharing this interview! We are considering moving to France in a few years (FIRE hopefully). We have six kids, however, so considering schooling options is completely overwhelming. I really appreciate it when expats are willing to discuss their school choices and experiences abroad.
These are such interesting life stories. But I don’t get the dryer issue. I moved to the EU in 1999. Bought a dryer in 2000 and am on my second now. They always dried well.
@34:50 "the quality of food is way better outside the US". I can vouch for that! The fruit, bread, vegetables, etc. in Spain, France, NL, CH, DE, are so much better than they are in California, and I have farming in my family. Don't tell them, lol!
I am French and have visited other countries in Europe and states in the USA (30 years ago I had some good meals in Steakhouses and mom and pop country restaurants, a fantastic fully home cooked Thanksgiving dinner in Mississipi). I believe you can add Italy and Greece to your list in Europe, the climate enables to grow a lot of fruits and vegetables. The size of the USA drives farming towards large scale production and long distance distribution.
Excellent program. 1-What do they do during the day to occupy their time and to assimilate. 2-wonderful how they say the produce, food and medical care are better than in the US. Most US citizens have the “we’re number one”mentality and the constant droning that life outside of the US is inferior. So not true. I visit France very often and a bit to Spain. At 74 years old my regret is not going sooner as an expat. I am Italian decent but despite visiting there several times Ive developed an affinity for France. Im now returning at the end of this October for several weeks house shopping. Wish me luck. Joe, retired in Cape May.
@ good evening. I had to reschedule my trip because of unexpected illness but I have my airline ticket ready to depart for France on January 9, 2025. This has also given me the opportunity to reschedule different regions as well as properties for sale on line. Best wishes to you as well. Joseph.
Great interview and lots of wonderful information. Thank you to both couples. ❤️

they moved to Europe, not to the global south
Thank you for such an informative interview! I always wanted to ask: how did you manage to get in a renting house? Did you find it from your country?

Good luck, Joe! Hopefully, you are already in France and doing well. Maybe you will be my inspiration - I am 73...
