Yeah, this was great! I had no idea they'd filmed that movie in Spain. And yes, Northern Spain and Southern France are a lot like the US. The Pyrenees are a lot like the Appalachian Mountains, the people laid back like Texans. It's a nice place to visit.
This is exceptional! Learned a lot about Spain and that great movie. I agree, iconic music. My husband and I got to visit Barcelona and really enjoyed it. The famous artist, Gaudio created magic. One of the entertainers on the ship were from Spain. We shared a meal and thoroughly enjoyed their company, and talent on stage.
The good and the bad ugly was not just an excellent movie, but is considered by many critics to be the greatest western movie ever made. It is my favorite along with another Clint Eastwood movie, the unforgiven.
I don't like most Westerns, but this is just a classic in so many ways. One of the things I think makes it special is the tie-in with the Civil War, which isn't dealt with in most (any?) other Westerns. I'm huge Eli Wallach, fan, too.
In the US it released at the end of 1967. I was in 5th grade and my teacher loved history. He had us enact different events, such as battles in the Civil War. He told us we should see this movie since it showed the reality of the civil war better than any other movie. On that recommendation my mom took us to the movie. I'm not sure she knew what she was getting into with kids our age. LOL. I still remember it, though.
Wow! I never thought I'd see you in Spain. I've been to Sad Hill twice 2003 and 2005. Before the location was renovated. I bought one of the graves which was used to restore the cemetery. Cost was $15.00. Thanks for the great adventure.
@@SidetrackAdventures When they built the cemetery the Spanish army brought in dirt from another area and made the mounds. I was stationed in Germany in the early 80s, I traveled down to Barcelona twice and it really reminded me of home state California, thanks for the tour.
¡Bienvenido a España! I was born in New Mexico and have lived in Spain for over 15 years. So I was surprised by a couple things from your video: 1. That there was a scene in the spaghetti westerns filmed outside Almeria province - which is in the southeast, in Europe's only true desert. 2: That the locals have kept up the cemetery crosses and park for so many years. So well done, Steve! By the way, New Mexico looks like Spain in many locations, so I understand why the Spanish settlers felt at home there. The movies could have easily been filmed in NM, but I presume Spain was easier to get to for the Italians that produced them. Spain is chock full of history and stunning terrain, so you could do well visiting other places. I presume that the top of your list that would be of interest to Americans. You might therefore start with the monastery of La Rábida, where Columbus stayed between 1491-92 waiting for financial backing from the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. It is preserved as it might have looked during those years.
Lived in Spain as an exchange student in 1972-1973 when Franco was still in power... made it from my base in Barcelona to Madrid, Toledo and Cuenca (among other places) but never to Burgos. And now I'm too old to travel around like I did 52 years ago. Glad you enjoyed.
Second time you’ve been in my stomping grounds. First was when you made your way to the center of Utah; I’m a former Sanpete County Sheriff Deputy. Second, I lived in Madrid for a while. Keep the hits coming. “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” is now available RUclips for free with ads.
This is fabulous. This was released in 1967 in the states. We were in h/s and for the rest of our lives, my friends and I are huge fans of these westerns. Thank you for doing this. I would love to be able to do this. I've seen each of these Eastwood westerns a 100x each. The drive you did to get out there was great. You did a great job.
Wow Steve what a awesome video and there are a few things I wanted to add. First off like many here The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is absolutely one of my favorite all time movies to watch, for me it's a tie with John Wayne's Searchers for the best Western of all time. I just wanted to add a few personal things about your video I think you might be interested in. First of all El Cid is one of my ancestors due to my great great grandfather going back 500 years named Juan De Zaldavar who was a Conquestador who rode with Coronado in the 1540's and was one of his captains. Juan De Zaldavar was one of the first Europeans to ride through both Texas and New Mexico and they made it all the way to Kansas before turning back because of the brutal weather on the great plains. Another interesting fact is my great great grandfather going back 500 years named Balthztzar Temino De Banuelos was born in Burgos and was also a Conquestador and he was one of 4 founders of the Mexican city and state of Zacatecas. One of the other 4 founders of Zacatecas is another of my great grandfather's going back around 10 generations named Cristobal De Onate. Cristobal was also the founder of Guadalajara but more famously Cristobal's oldest son is the founder of New Mexico in 1598 and that is where The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is supposed to take place. Juan De Onate's youngest brothers name is Alonso De Onate and that is my grandfather going back around 10 generations ago pretty cool huh!
Wow! This is great. I wish I had known of this location during our trip to Spain. We drove right along this route to San Sebastian. And the cafe's in the gas stations serve some good food.
Brilliant video. I'm English and I've visited this place in North Eastern Spain. The Good the bad & the ugly is my favourite film of all time. Incidentally, the Hacienda Nightclub in Manchester (Factory records/Tony Wilson) used to have this music playing in their bars. Fantastic place. Steeped in history. Best shoot out ever. Brilliant. Arch Stanton would be proud of it 👍
I was 12 years old when this movie was released. Saw it at a drive-in movie theatre with my dad. I'll never forget it. Bravo mi amigo for bringing us this bit of movie history! Ole!
This is absolutely fantastic! I bet a lot of people watching this has the music playing in their head , I sure did. Makes me remember the very last scene where Eli Walach (Tuco) was left with the noose around his neck, standing/balancing on top of a headstone as Clint Eastwood (Blondie) rode away. I did not know the cemetery was a constructed set for the movie... amazing. This has to be your best video, featuring something from a very icon movie. LOL, now I'm recalling some of great lines and scenes...Tuco in the bath tub when an gunman starts talking, gun shots ring out killing him. Tuco gets out of the tub and tells the dead man "When you have to shoot, SHOOT, don't talk". I love that movie.
Even in Spain, "It's not a real road trip until you see an oversized version of something." The fog *does* fit the scene! Thanks, Steve, for another awesome video!
Love it! My family is from there, near St. Domingo de Silos. My grandfather's cattle used to graze in the Mirandilla pasture, which is where the cemetery is located. ❤
I've been watching you for around a year now. I had no idea that your favorite movie is mine as well. I've watched it over a dozen times. What a great place to visit. One of my favorite lines from the movie is "Take a slug of this captain, and keep your ears open" 🤠
Holy cow, Steve!! This one really blew me away!! I didn't know your travels were global adventures!! It's amazing to me that place is relatively unmolested after almost 60 years!! Safe travels!!👍🙏

Great, a sidetrack adventure over on this side of the Atlantic! Those Sergio Leone westerns were hugely popular in Europe during the 1960's and I well remember as a teenager going to the local cinema with my best buddy to watch the series of spaghetti westerns starring Clint Eastwood. Many years later a few friends and I went on a mega European road trip from the UK which included travelling down to southern Spain. One of the areas we drove through was the Tabernas desert in Almeria province which provided the backdrop for many of the spaghetti westerns. Remote and rugged, perfect for film makers. The province has several areas of film lots which are mainly tourist attractions these days but are still used by film makers. One of them is called Little Hollywood, if you're ever in Spain again that whole area around Almeria is worth visiting but gets very busy with tourists during the summer. Real shame about the weather it can be very changeable in Europe this time of year.
The GB&U was one of the best films. The scene with Tuco running around Sad Hill in a total frenzy for the right grave and the music that accompanied it is among the most evocative of any film scenes. This is easily one of your best videos yet. I had no idea that Sad Hill still existed. Thanks so much for bringing this to us.
@@flitsertheo I kind of meant the place generally. Any place that looked like that in the 60s would now have a shopping mall on it now. I live in Los Angeles California and the area around here is very very different from what it was in the 60s. I mean the whole of southern California.
This is really awesome being in Madrid especially at the cemetery that was in the movie the Good, the Bad and the Ugly and it looks almost the same with a little more grass however. It looks really nice there in that area of Spain especially in the nice looking towns have a wonderful week and until next time thank you.👋☕🧋👋

This was awesome Steve! I’ve seen earlier videos of the site on RUclips (before the restoration) and the circle of stone was completely overgrown with grass. Glad they restored it. The effort it took to create all those graves for a scene was what made this movie an epic. No cgi then.

I will listen to this soundtrack before I die as it is so peaceful. My favorite scene is where Clint Eastwood (The Good) gives dying soldier a puff on a cigarette and a drink of water before he dies. My son gave me the soundtrack years ago and have it downloaded d on m I-pod list. Yes it is a family favorite of ours. Especially my older boys 40/38 years old.

My big cousin Ray used to take me to the movies with him when I was a kid in the sixties. He was in the Navy and when he came home on leave we would go see a movie. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was one of the along with Bullet. We are both of PR descent so when Eli Wallach called Clint Eastwood the son of a grand whoa in Spanish we freaked out. The music was great as well as the movie. Bullet was also cool and we saw that one at Radio City Music Hall. The car chase scene was incredible and I believe it was the first car chase scene actually filmed for a movie. Great memories for me as a child growing up in the Bronx. RIP cousin Ray. Thanks so much. Love you.

That is cool seeing that place and that it's still relatively well preserved like that.
This is a 2015 recreation. The place was almost gone before that.
@@flitsertheo I kind of meant the place generally. Any place that looked like that in the 60s would now have a shopping mall on it now. I live in Los Angeles California and the area around here is very very different from what it was in the 60s. I mean the whole of southern California.
Awesome thanks ! Best movie I ever seen in 70 yrs of life still to this day ! Seen it at the drive in .
This is really awesome being in Madrid especially at the cemetery
that was in the movie the Good, the Bad and the Ugly and it looks almost the same with a little more grass however. It looks really
nice there in that area of Spain especially in the nice looking towns have a wonderful week and until next time thank you.👋☕🧋👋
Thank you for taking us there! I have to agree that it is the best western. Now I need to go dig out my dvd copy and watch it!
This was great, Steve. Love seeing the Spanish countryside and feeling your enthusiasm. I liked this because it made me feel as if anyone wanted to go to the site they would be able to. You seemed so comfortable. Thanks for sharing!😊
Definitely anyone could get there. The dirt road got a little rough, but had no problem in the Puma.
I would love to go there one day.
Permanently ?
Fantastic! I absolutely was in "Love" with Clint, back in the Day, & His Movies, Thank You Steve❤
Absolutely stunning! I hope you DID blast the music and wander around after you were done filming! I had to open another tab and play the music in the background myself ;)
Yeah. I probably rewatched the ending three times later that day too.
My new favorite Sidetrack Adventure! Well done.
I've watched the movie at least a half dozen times but this presentation makes me want to pull out the DVD and watch it again.
This movie and Once Upon A Time In The West are my 2 all tine favorite westerns. I am shocked it is so green there and not a desert. Thanks for taking us there.
One of my favorite movies, but you must see the trio including "A Fistful of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More".
That music is going to be going in my head all day long now. This was an epic movie. I had no idea it was filmed in Spain. Thanks for showing it to us.
Good morning Steve. Perfect timing too. Warner Brothers is doing (so far) a 6 episodes in a series of the legacy of Clint Eastwood. I'd recommend viewing this series as it illustrates just how much this actor/director has contributed to the film industry! Thanks for the video Steve! (RUclips)
Where can this series be watched? I'd love to check it out.
This was awesome Steve! I’ve seen earlier videos of the site on RUclips (before the restoration) and the circle of stone was completely overgrown with grass. Glad they restored it. The effort it took to create all those graves for a scene was what made this movie an epic. No cgi then.
SPAIN, that's one country that I always wanted to go to, Awesome video, and thanks for taking us along, I like the movie "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly". THE SARGE
Bienvenido amigo si un dia vienes a España 😉
Thanks for taking us with you , always enjoy your road trips and the knowledge you share.
Steve, that was great, Spain is beautiful! To all the viewers, if you never saw this classic, watch it please, you won’t be disappointed! And you’re right about the tune Steve, it kept going thru my head as you walked the cemetery!
Steve, thank you so much. This scene is just so famously immortal. It becomes like a sort of mecca of movie lovers.
I know it's not him, but if I remember right, that soldier he gave the cigarette to, kind of looks like Jan-Michael Vincent.
I'm not a movie buff. I rarely ever watch movies but the Clint Eastwood westerns are amonge the few I really enjoy
I was fascinated with the story of the crew that rediscovered the location and rebuilt the graveyard
One of the first movies I snuck down the stairs in the dark to watch....awesome show steve ! Epic
I probably will never make it in person. So thank you for taking me there. Really enjoyed it.
Best western ever made, and the music to match 👍
Great adventure! Thanks for taking us along.
I am so glad they saved this iconic place! It actually feels like a cemetery! Thank YOU MF or bringing us out there with you. I love westerns and real western history. Enjoy your trip in Spain. Thanks again, -Nina
I was recently going to watch that movie again after years. Then I saw almost 3 hours long. I passed.
Muchas gracias señor Estaban
So you came in Europe 😃 Great film Steve! Thank you ! I am an all days fan of Sergio Leone, Clint Eastwood and Morricone
Iconic video of an iconic movie site. Your best yet, Steve!
Now that is really what you call a sidetrack adventure, on the other side of the pond kind of sidetrack, thank you for taking us here our friend, I have lived in Germany for 7 years, but was not fortunate to go to Spain, you should check out that part of Europe if you can, but this is awesome, my favorite spaghetti western with Clint, and I was only 4 yrs old when that was produced. Thank you for your efforts.
Looks like New Mexico. The mountain was the most majestic I have ever seen. Height has nothing on beauty.❤
Steve, I'm glad you finally made it to Spain. The scenery throughout the country is amazing.
Wow! Best video!
Thank you, I really appreciate it.
I enjoyed your video. Love the movie. “ There are two kinds of spurs my friend, those that come in through the door and those that come in through the window.”
Amazing adventure and some awesome video! It really does have parts that look like the SW USA. For as many times that I’ve watched the movie, I never had any idea it was filmed in Spain 😮 Enjoy your time there!
This was cool. I didn't know this was still there. I love those films. ❤ Thank you for taking us there.
I love the Ecstasy of Gold, my dad has the soundtrack on vinyl. He would play it all the time.
Thank you Steve, Thank you!
You did this epic movie proud, my friend. I also loved it and the other Sergio movies as well.
I think it's amazing you went to Europe for this! The scenery (despite the fog) is incredible.
Subscribed just at the right time to get the notice of this, only to find myself in Spain. Well done! Mucho thanks!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Excellent! Bravo!!! One of my favorite movies! Thanks for bringing it alive!
I like that you're a regular guy with an appetite for adventure and history. Very cool. Thanks!
Love you.
I'm swede and I loved all of those movies and have watched them many times. I read about the restauration when it happend and was very happy. I love Clint and I think I've seen most of his films. My first memory of him was a tv serie named Rawhide.
