Let's go Make Mistakes - Arcane Jinx's Butterfly
HTML-код

- Jinx's modified butterfly, from the show Arcane, was perfect practice for working with brass. The butterfly also lights up when you set it on the base. We learned so much from this build!

Count how many cat hairs are in this video! Actually, don't. It gets gross.
Hey! Back off the cat hair count. It's not their fault that they feel/demand to be part of every phone call!!!
I'm more fascinated by the plywood DIY monitor stand & the Sound Devices era speaker
So many cat hairs it almost triggered my allergies.
This is a great project, it took me awhile to get around to watching it because of the length, but I really try to watch every video you all drop.
Come on, it’s just kitty cat hair.
I couldn’t distinguish the cat hairs in the video from the hairs on my screen, so I think you’re good 👍🏻 lmaooo
This is magnificent. Arcane was full of fascinating bits of small clockwork items like this but I never imagined someone would be crazy enough to not only try to replicate the fireflies specifically, but to succeed so thoroughly. Beautiful work.
Thank you!
I’ve never actually watched someone ‘level up’ in their making in real time! Beautiful….BEAUTIFUL work!
The texture you added to the wings makes them look like the scales on an actual butterfly wing, so I think that worked out really well.
I love how the texture turned out, thanks!
It's such a gorgeous piece!
But the real joy is in watching you put it together, and see your reaction as you complete each step in the process, until you are left with a mechanic butterfly that LIGHTS UP!
Awe, thank you so much! =D
I haven't seen Arcane, but your video was great! I'd love to see you do more items that use brass, wood, 3D printing and other things together like this. Also, thanks for the awesome "beauty shots" towards the end of the video. So many people show the process of making an item and then barely show how awesome it looks when it's done. So I appreciate you taking the time to show it off properly.
I appreciate the comments about the beauty shots. It’s one of my favorite and most fun parts of the process! 😄
if you are worried that the double-sided tape is gumming up the cutter, I can wholeheartedly recommend to you using masking tape and superglue. One layer of masking tape put on the workpiece, one layer on the base plate of the cnc machine. Now glue the backs of the masking tape together with the superglue. It provides a secure hold strong enough for cutting wood or brass and can get easily removed with acetone.
Great tip!
What a fantastic journey to see this finished. It looks amazing!! You should be very proud guys!
Thank you! 😄
This is by far one of the coolest projects you've done! I can only imagine the problem solving you did to come up with the very elegant power solution!
Yeah! I'm gonna go outside and make mistakes! **Ralph chuckles**
:D More seriously, thank you for the video, the result is wonderful! It was totally worth all the mistakes, frustration, time and learning. I've seen the work of some artists that make different kinds of little metallic creations, and this totally is at the same level. 1 hour video that I absolutely didn't see pass, especially with the cool atmosphere you 2 bring to your videos.
Thanks again and take care! Cheers from France!
Merci beaucoup! 😄
"da bomb" in the dangerous chemicals cabinet is just *chef's kiss*
Loved this, tons of potential props from Arcane. Makes Jinx’s tinkering even more impressive.
Just appreciating Da Bomb in the hazardous materials cabinet.
Also, beautiful work!
Ha! Good eye!
So glad you're still creating 👍 Missed you guys!
Enjoy the ride!
What an amazing job at a delicate, exquisite artwork! I'm glad you added the bloopers because working in such small scale is tricky. Congrats!
Thanks! The bloopers are my favorite part.
Super excited when new video popped up In notifications 😃 . 🎉🎉🎉🎉 , that looked like a headache to do all those little fiddly bits , but wow it looked amazing 👏👏👏
Hyype! =D
Hi Punished Props. This is by far the best video I have seen all year. Congrats on the fantastic effort and comprehensive walk through. Very inspiring. Well done mate.
This is absolutely incredible. It looks so delicate and the idea to have the electricity pass from the base up the legs is genius
Thank you so much!
This build was pure and utter joy for me from start to finish, I adore butterflies, this reminds me of an automaton, a butterfly Bubo before the paint job, just absolutely brilliant, you’ve made my day seeing this. I loved it.(you should make another one without the paint sometime and stare at it’s splendour)
Awe, thank you so much! 😄
Wow! Wow, wow, wow, wow! This is INCREDIBLE! The planning, the tiny details, the skill, absolutely amazing. It turned out beyond stunning! I'd love to see more brass work for sure. This was such an amazing watch, I spent most of it with my jaw on the ground.
Saw this work unfold in the behind channel and so excited for Bill's learn-as-you-do experience! It turned out amazing. Was a little bummed to see it painted though, but I guess it's a prop from some movie and you just had to do that ;)
I definitely learned a TON on this project.
A wonderful project to see come to fruition. Da Bomb in the fire cabinet is a nice touch.
Hey, guys! What a great build and so much problem solving and skill acquisition. OUTSTANDING!
Thank you!
That was great, thanks. Really appreciated the tiny electronics execution that I was curious about. Looks awesome.
guys this is amazing!!!! super build... i'm always so impressed xo
Thank you so much!
An amazing build - a great job of pulling an item out of an animated universe into ours. Stunning !
The finished result is stunning!
Fantastic work! This was a great project. Thanks for sharing the failures too. It’s part of the process.
If you're interested, pickling solution is just white vinegar and salt. Plenty of resources on measures, but pickle is WAY easier than sanding or polishing out the oxidation. You did a fantastic job and reminded me why I really want to get back into jewelry again. Haven't had my own stuff since college oh so many years ago. Next time, you should try a patina! (It's like mad-science and alchemy!)
That's not just a prop, but a work of art! Amazing job!
Thank you!
This is such a detailed and fun piece to have made! Love it 💜
Thank you!
Yay! Any day with a Punished Props video is a good day! Great video. Thanks for your hard work!
You’re welcome!
Awesome build Bill!! Loved see the behind the scenes footage. Shout out for the extra credit club!!🎉👍
Thanks for tagging along on the journey! 😃
It was really great to see the etching and helped to refresh my sautering skills.
Incredible work! Hiding the wiring in the legs is brilliant and really sells the effect. Looking forward to seeing more projects in the future!
Thanks!
Great build, Bill! I don't know how you're able to work with such little parts. Seeing you learn from your mistakes is inspiring, especially when the finished product looks so good!
Thanks so much! I’m glad my failures are useful to other people.
Some absolutely beautiful work. Bill, I love watching your work and I think you folks just keep betting better and better. Thank you for sharing!
(And Kitty Fur is just pet-love-glitter. At least, that's what I say when I find it.)
I make jewellery as a hobby, one earing design I did I wanted a nested brass detail that acted as a hinge, looks similar to how you joined the wings to the rods. If you paint Tippex (UK) or Whiteout on the inside of the tube it will act as a resist to the solder so that the rod should rotate inside the tube once the soldering is done. That allows it to act as a hinge and the wings can be articulated if you wanted them to move or flap.
I was so worried when I saw the title, but I understand now. This came out amazing! Trial and error is the best way to learn.
Wow! This is such a beautiful project and a great video showcasing how you made it. I love seeing the process from planning to the finished butterfly. As always an amazing creation - thank you for sharing the journey!
You’re most welcome! =)
The butterfly is absolutely beautiful!! I am in love ngl, you did such an amazing job!
Thank you so much!
I love how many different techniques you guys use! It’s so helpful to learn about new things, and so fun to watch!!
This was a super satisfying mix of techniques.
Been subbed to this channel but haven't actually watched any videos in months. The title of this spoke to me though as making mistakes is a hobby of mine!
Awesome, let's make mistakes together! =D
Bill, this is one awesome build!
Thank you so much!
One of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Part of me is always amazed at what you are able to produce, but there’s an equal part of me that sees things like using you circle template lines to mark four sides of your cylinder that puts me truly in awe… thank you for that….it will be used.
Great build Bill. Wonderful camera work by Britt.
Thank you!
Great video. It's an inspiration to see the level that you guys are building these days.
That's absolutely beautiful guys, great work!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely incredible, love seeing you tackle new skills too!
Thank you so much!
Pretty cool project. Great learning along with you guys. Plus hope Click Spring see this.
That would make my day.
What a great video for my first time seeing you. 👀
Got a new subscriber 😊
Setting Z height - you don't need the thinnest, you need a known thickness. You can then set the position of the cutter to offset that thickness Carbide Motion supports this in the Set Zero dialog.
For fixturing, with thin material if you don't want to do the painters tape + super glue trick you could have run some sheet metal screws into the corners of your cut outs to fixture it too.
Still, love this project. (I'll admit, I'm only just through the machining of the wings section when leaving this comment)
Awesome information, thank you!
Amazing cartoon and amazing project brother wow so cool !!!
This is BEAUTAFUL!!
Had to take a second look. Da Bomb beyond insanity in the caustic chemical cabinet was perfect! I would love both of you to be on Hot One's.
Haha! Good eye!
Beautiful job! Well done!
this was a joy to watch thanks for sharing!
Great to see you again!!!
Cheers!
For holding those tiny wires/bar stock, some SMD tweezers with grooved tips might be really nice, such as the Edsyn EP-110-SA
That was phenomenal, but a little tedious for me I would not be able to do that. Kudos to you.
This kind of tedium is my zen.
Gorgeous product, love love love the vid!
Yeah! Punished Props is back.
Wooo!
I would love to see you make one of jinx' grenades too! If you can make one of these butterflies this well, you can make a lot more
bill and brits one day build ...lol
making Savage jelly
brass work is crazy cool
I am falling in love with brass!
It's been so great to watch this build all along the way. The end result was absolutely worth all of the broken bits!
It was totally worth it! =)
If you plan on silver soldering tiny parts in the future i would recomend using a charcoal block.
Such a cool project. It turned out great!
Thanks so much Eric!
A good while back y’all made videos of making a LOtR and Highlander lightsaber sword. I would love to see another of these lightsabers build with the Thunder Cat’s Sword of Omens as the handle for it.
Well done Bill.
Thanks!
Man, I love your channel
this is absolutely AMAZING!!
Thanks! =)
Thanks for the content! I wait all month just to see what you are up to!
Stunning!
I've said it before, I'll say it again: hands of a surgeon... of course that's before I saw the outtakes, GAH! Great build though! The texture inside the wings might have taken a while, but it's beautiful.
Thanks so much! 😄
That was a great build!!!
Thanks! =D
"Da Bomb" in the flammable and acid cabinet!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Awesome piece!!!
This is stunning work. When trying something wholly new, you don't start small, do you? Deep end, meet Bill.
I always jump in with both feet! =)
The hot sauce in the flammable cabinet tickled me more than it should have.
Beautiful.💖
Thank you!
Until this video, I didn't realize how much I need these >_>
Some Soldering tips/info:
This is great but you could use so much less solder. One of those chunks could of be all you need for one side.
Solder come in "harnesses", Hard requires more heat and soft requires less. Start your components with Hard and move down the harness as you start connecting parts together.
Also, you can make a Pickle with Salt and Vinegar and some warm water. :D
The 'staining' is actually the copper in the brass coming to the surface from heating in that area.
Adding a voice modulated switch to the base to make the lights flicker would be amazing. Otherwise, such an insanely good build!! Seems like there was a lot of waste brass from the episode. Do you bother re-melting the waste brass into new sheets/blocks?
That's a really great idea. I kept al the scrap brass and plan to re-melt it at some point.
1:26 That's pretty good for the side profile!
8:29 Don't why that name took me to Beavis and Butthead.
14:43 Futurama
25:43 Oh,wow!
28:51 So that's what that little attachment does!
That's a pretty good project!
IT'S GORGEOUS
These small things drive me crazy Just watching gives me feelings
Ho boy, as Bob Ross would say in reference to the painting: "Now here's your bravery test right here" . And given just how incredible it was before then...I don't know if I could have brought myself to paint it.
My practice piece helped calm my nerves.
i really liked this one keep it up !
Thanks!
@@punishedprops hehe
You're a wizard Harry
It looks so good.! Weird question what kind of mouse it that on your computer?
It’s a generic wireless mouse I found on Amazon.
@@punishedprops thanks!

"...and I bought some Nu Metal" *Korn noises intesify*
\m/
that's beauty ! i want to buy one now
Thanks!
Ha man good vid, question do you think you could figure out how to make a camtono prop from star wars?
Wow! Magnificent
I laughed at the bottle of Da Bomb in the Awful Chemicals Cabinet.
Wow this is so cool!
Thanks!
That looks great.
Thank you!
For those who arnt fully aware when it comes to Soldering, the Solder will follow the path of heat. So if you take when hes working the leg for good example. At 33:16 you can see me moves the flame to the bottom "foot" of the leg and since its zoomed in you can see the solder seemingly follows the flame down even though the leg is flat. This is b/c the flame as at the bottom of the foot so its traveling to the heat. If he took the flame more up it would of traveled more through the gap of pipe above it. It is a really odd thing that happens but its how HVAC Techs make their solders look so smooth and clean on copper pipes
Ahhh yes, I still have so much to learn. Thanks for the insight!
@@punishedprops Always good to keep learning
14:43 I see you have a self on the front of your vinyl cutter.. Did you build that or is it available someplace.. Thank you
Un trabajo hermoso, en muchas partes me preguntaba como continuarias con piezas tan pequeñas
